  Brooke acted as Best Man, Caroline as Maid of Honor. Nicole flew in especially from business meetings in New York and Ever was able to thank her personally for the referral to Charles Merchant. Brooke’s Aunt Sally came, which was a delight to all, especially Ever. Stroud had taken Ever to meet Sally at the gallery on the shore, which seemed so much brighter to Ever when she was there with Stroud. Ever and Sally hit it off instantly, which pleased Stroud enormously, since, like Caroline, Sally brought out Ever’s brighter side.

  Ever’s writer friends attended, thrilled by the news of her publishing prospects.

  Ever managed to contact Marta at her new number and she and her husband took the day off from their new import gift shop to attend.

  Catering was handled by Jean Cuvier and the staff of Catch the Mood.

  The honeymoon? Paris and London, naturally, since Charles Merchant was eager to meet Ever and negotiate publication details.

  As dictated by custom, Brooke commenced the toasts. “The bride and groom! Two people who couldn’t be better suited to each other.”

  Ever continued, her glass raised. “And to you, all of whom have done your part to make this the most memorable year of my life.”

  And Stroud concluded. “To dearest Ever, my wife. The adventure has only just begun...”
