“Leave it on that channel,” he said. “Might be good to catch up on what’s happening in the rest of the world.”
She rubbed against him, blissfully familiar with his incredible naked body. “I wanted to ask you something. Remember when you called my house? When Green was there?”
“Yeah?”
“You said you had a surprise for me. What was it?”
“I’ve been waiting for the right moment,” he said.
“Now,” she said firmly. “Life’s too short to wait. The right moment is now.”
He maneuvered until he was facing her. The bubbling water of the hot tub swirled around his chest. He pulled the silver ring from his finger—the ring with the seven-pointed Cherokee star. “With this token, I pledge my devotion. I will never lie to you or conceal the truth. Our bond will last for all eternity.”
Her mouth gaped. She was speechless.
“Marry me, Sierra. I love you with all my heart.”
“Yes.”
He placed the ring on her finger. “I want babies. Lots of babies.”
Happiness overwhelmed her. She threw her arms around him and held on tightly. “Oh, yes. I love you, Trevor.”
Their embrace and their kisses were obviously leading somewhere else, and they rose from the hot tub. It was only a few steps to the bed, but he was distracted by the television. Crown Prince Nikolai was denouncing the Militia, calling them terrorists.
Sierra grabbed the remote. “I’m getting real tired of this guy.”
“Wait.” Trevor held her hand.
In front of the TV camera, Nikolai was defying his father, King Aleksandr. “…And I will use whatever resources are at my disposal to assist in the safe return of America’s heroic hostages.”
“What hostages?” Trevor demanded.
His cell phone rang, and Sierra grabbed it. For a moment she was tempted to throw the phone into the hot tub and avoid what she feared would be bad news.
But she couldn’t stop Trevor from being who he was: strong, heroic and brave.
When she answered, she immediately recognized the voice of Trevor’s former commander. “Hello, Cameron.”
“Bad news,” he said. “Four of the bounty hunters have been taken hostage along with the Special Forces platoon.”
She glanced toward Trevor, her newly betrothed. “Let me guess. You need Trevor’s help to rescue them.”
“I need to talk to him.”
“One minute.” She gazed into the blue eyes of the man she loved. It would be hard to let him go, but she couldn’t force him to stay. She held the phone to her breast. “Promise that you’ll come back to me.”
“Always. Sierra, you are my life.”
She hoped their life together would last for a very long time, until they were both old and gray, with grandchildren playing around their feet. But she couldn’t force him not to take risks. That was what he did. Luckily, he was damn good at it.
“Go for it.” She handed him the phone. “Do what you have to do.”
Before turning his attention to his new mission, Trevor sealed his promise to Sierra with a kiss neither would ever forget.
