“You have not mentioned this to Mallory.”
Amadeus laughed again. This time the noise was laced with bitterness and pain. “I’ve not mentioned this to another being in four decades. I’m not about to tell a naïve death witch who still thinks the world is a safe and wonderful place populated by good people.”
“You should take care not to dissuade her of that notion.” Jakob let his eyes bleed away to red, making it clear how dangerous the action would be.
“I will take care around her in all things from this point forward.”
“See that you do.”
Amadeus nodded, his manners contrite, but his look turned mischievous. “Though I expect I will still annoy her.”
“As you should.” Jakob left, content the matter was settled.
A word about the author…
Rachel Graves writes urban fantasy detective stories with more than a few steamy scenes. Her work creates dark and dangerous fantasies that explore the many shades of gray found between the lines of right and wrong. Focusing on strong heroines, their fears, and the men they lust after and maybe, eventually, love, her writing incorporates myths from the familiar vampires to lesser known creatures like selkies and yuki onna.
Rachel is a member of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. You can read more about her at http://www.rachelgraves.com/ where her blog offers short fiction and more.
