“So,” Ann said. “We’ve the magistrate tomorrow morning at ten. Fancy a quick tour of the area, or maybe you’d rather just go back to the Gresham and close your eyes?”
“Actually, please don’t take it personal, but back to the hotel sounds the better choice; I can feel myself beginning to fade. If I tell the taxi man the Four Courts tomorrow will he know what I’m talking about?”
“Oh, yes. But why don’t I plan on meeting you in the hotel lobby, say half-nine, and we’ll head over together.”
“Half-nine?”
“What you’d call nine-thirty.”
“I can do that,” Dillon said just as the taxi pulled up.
“Come on, let’s get you back to the Gresham before you fall asleep on your feet.”
“I look that bad?”
“You look…tired.”
She dropped him off at the Gresham a few minutes later. He made his way up to his room, kicked off his shoes, took off his coat, draped his trousers over the chair and fell sound asleep, face-down in the bed about five seconds later.
