Shadows of the Heart Page 19

The coffee plantation meant nothing to Trish. Only Marc’s love mattered. But she knew his fierce pride.

“We’ll make a bargain,” she said shakily. “If… if this half of the cafetal ever does become mine, it will always be mine. Then I will never have to suspect you married me for it.”

“Agreed,” he said simply. He looked down at her and she lifted her mouth for his kiss. His dark eyes, reflecting nothing of her dirt-streaked face or disheveled hair, revealed only the depths of his love. His lips found hers then in a kiss of passion and tenderness that left no doubt in Trish’s heart of his true feelings.

But somewhere far back in her mind another thought danced. Part of the cafetal might always be hers alone, but someday it would all be one again, as it should be, through their children. And then she gave herself up to the wonder and passion of his kiss and all it promised.
