Jimmy's Dreams: Some Dreams Are Nightmares

He looked up at the sky and saw a brief patch of blue before it disappeared. He smiled, that was a rare occurrence. The scientists and engineers had taken the alien’s shuttle apart and made too many discoveries to list. They were coming up with new technologies almost every week.

He chuckled, he was right about the aliens not being that far ahead technologically. After examining the ship’s computer, they found a tutorial recorded in different languages. The ship they used was a product sold to various species out in the galaxy. The engineers determined that the ship was a second-hand, bottom of the line product. The aliens had purchased it from a dealer and it was not a Mercedes. Truth be told, it wasn’t even a Yugo.

The aliens bought the ship they came in from a used spaceship dealer for the express purpose of finding real estate they could sell to their species. And after listening to the recordings of their transmissions, after the linguists learned their language, they weren’t all that intelligent. It was like having your planet destroyed by the Three Stooges. Jimmy sighed, it didn’t take much intelligence to use advanced technology to defeat a civilization without space travel.

But that wouldn’t happen again. The first of six space ships was almost completed and it had performed marvelously in its initial trials. It had some of the alien’s technology built into it along with laser and rail-gun technology. And this ship was quality built with no exposed wires and it was highly maneuverable. They didn’t have the technology of their faster than light drive; the shuttle they took didn’t have it. But when that alien ship came back, they would cripple it, and mankind would have the galaxy open to travel.

However, there was too much to do at home before that happened. Rachel was getting married. She turned twenty-one and found the man of her dreams. Ayet was learning martial arts and planned to join the Warriors when he came of age; he was starting to have dreams. Seven year old Hope studied with him and followed Rachel everywhere she went. The twins were only three but they were becoming more and more beautiful every day; he had his four seasons.

He looked back down at the valley and thought about his father. He wondered if he was the one that sold those aliens the ship. Well, no matter. Life was springing up around the planet and it turned up in places no one expected. How could chickens in Idaho possibly survive the impact? But they did. Creation never ceases to amaze.

He heard a boom and saw a military sled leap over the western mountain at high speed headed East. New survivors must have been found. He stood up and closed his eyes. He saw green fields and trees extending out from the mountains into the distance in all directions. He smiled and went to the elevator. Some dreams weren’t nightmares.
