He looked up again as he realised that Dylan was now climbing up on his desk. He reached up to the ceiling, as if he was about to change a lightbulb, but actually he started to tamper with the smoke detector – disabling it to prevent it from revealing what they were up to in here.
Adam’s compulsion to make a joke overrode his ‘serious’ filter. “Don’t try that at home, huh?”
Dylan snorted politely as he always did at Adam’s stupid jokes. Dylan was so practical – and Ivan, too. If you needed any home improvements doing, Ivan and Dylan were the ones to ask. They’d spent hours as kids dismantling and repairing an old Buick of their dad’s. They were good with their hands. Women all over the city would testify to that…
Dylan spoke coolly as he dismantled the detector. “Did you say you were gonna fake your suicide, Tariq? In case the Saudis come after you?”
“I guess I should. I mean, even though we’re destroying all this today, the knowledge of the project is still stored in mine and Ivan’s heads. We could be tortured to give it up.”
“We’ll help if we can,” Adam said. “Where will you go?”
“I guess California. My young cousin lives there, and I know she’ll put me up.” He raised an eyebrow at Ivan. “But Ivan won’t be invited again.”
Ivan chuckled. “Yep, the only time we’ve ever fallen out was when I got the hots for Tariq’s little cousin.”
“You got a cousin in America, Tariq?” Dylan asked, hopping down off the desk.
“He has,” Ivan said. “Samira. She moved here from Iran last year, thanks to Tariq’s citizenship. Remember me and Tariq went to California to get outta New York a couple of months ago?”
“Yeah, sure,” Dylan said. “I met Samira, remember? But you didn’t mention she was Tariq’s cousin.”
“No. I couldn’t talk about it – I was pretty heartbroken to be honest.”
Dylan scoffed. “Heartbroken? What the hell’s got into my brothers?”
Adam grinned. “We’re falling in love around your ears, Dylan.”
Ivan chuckled affectionately. “Yep. Well, for me and Samira it was lust at first sight, but Tariq was like ‘stay away’.”
Tariq’s expression remained severe. “It was too dangerous for you two to be together. I didn’t want her getting hurt. Besides, I know how you Quinlan boys can be.”
Adam draped his arm around Amy and pulled her close. “Not all of us.”
Amy grinned into his eyes and they kissed.
Ivan gazed into the red and yellow flames that were hungrily devouring his and Tariq’s precious work. “Samira sure is a fine woman. I know you don’t approve, Tariq, but I hope one day… when she’s finished college.”
Adam’s jaw dropped. “College? Ivan, how old is this woman?”
He winced. “About ten years younger than me. At Tariq’s request we severed all contact. But I love her, Tariq. You know that, right? I respect that you want to protect her from the Saudis. But I won’t just let her go. I can’t.”
“I told her you were dead,” Tariq said bluntly.
Ivan glared at his friend. Then he coolly replied, “Well, after all this crazy stuff is over, I’ll find her. I’ll tell her I love her. We will be together.”
“This sounds like a romantic story I’d love to hear,” Amy said, cringing.
Tariq shook his head despairingly. “Let’s get back to the task in hand for now. Perhaps Ivan will tell you the details another time. Preferably when I’m not around.”
“I can’t help it that I fell in love,” Ivan said.
“I’m never falling in love,” Dylan said. “I’ll be a bachelor forever. I’d put money on that.”
Adam raised a playful eyebrow. “Oh yeah? How much?”
Dylan balked. “What?”
“How much to say you won’t fall in love in the next year.”
“Bullshit – I know I won’t.”
“Alright. Let’s say ten grand?”
“Fine. Ten grand says I won’t meet a woman who can turn me onto love. It’s not gonna happen Adam – I can tell you that now.”
“We’ll see,” Adam said. He smirked at Amy. “Now, come on, let’s make sure this stuff’s destroyed and get home. I need to show the love of my life just how much she means to me!”
Chapter Twenty-Nine
A tranquil feeling of glorious contentment glowed softly in Amy’s heart. The breeze gently caressed her hair as she reclined in the deckchair in the Monaco sunshine, gazing peacefully at the blue sky, green fields, and sun-soaked beach ahead. Adam’s idea to spend ten blissful days at the family’s French seaside chateau had given her the chance to relax and bond with her beloved. It was perfect right here, right now, in this lush, secluded garden overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
The last few months had been wonderful, but manic. Amy had moved into her Manhattan apartment and she was enjoying working at Quinlan Bros, heading up the Grafton Techs merger from there. And Dylan was firmly in control of things in London. He seemed to be having a blast, spending his free-time wooing British ladies and honing his playboy reputation. Amy had asked him several times whether any of them had caught his attention beyond being glamorous one-night-stands, but the answer was always ‘not in a million years’. It didn’t look as if Adam would win his bet. But there was still plenty of time for love to strike Dylan’s heart. Stranger things had happened…
The sound of soothing birdsong pulled Amy out of her thoughts, and she dabbed a few brushstrokes onto her painting of the vista ahead. It was good to be doing art again. Adam had arranged for the easel, canvases, and high-quality oils to be waiting for her when they’d arrived, which was so romantic. Amy grinned and blushed. Adam had spent a few hours yesterday painting her body with chocolate sauce, then licking it off. And then obviously they’d needed to shower afterwards…
She tensed and tried not to jump as she realised there was someone standing right behind her.
“Looking good,” Adam said.
Amy relaxed, feeling love whirl within. “Thanks, I’m having trouble getting the sea the right colour, but I should get there.”
Adam rested his hands on her shoulders and eased down the straps of her floaty summer dress. Arousal zoomed at his touch.
He lowered his face to nibble her neck. “I wasn’t talking about the painting. It’s good, though. My girlfriend’s a talented artist as well as incredibly hot.”
She turned her head and gazed up into his eyes. “Thank you, my love.”
He stepped around to stand by her side, and they shared a smile.
“Did you get the cakes?” she asked.
“Cakes? Shit, I knew there was something... I wonder… will this do instead?”
“What?”
Adam grinned down at her, then he suddenly dropped to his knees. Amy frowned. What the hell was he doing now? She watched with delight as he pulled out a velvet-covered jewellery box. Oh my god, was he about to…? Surely not! Amy tried to suppress her swirling excitement. Yes he was!
Adam smiled into her eyes and opened the box. It contained an expensive-looking ring set with a huge diamond. She dragged her gaze away from it and stared at him, stunned. Her mind floated with glee.
She let out a childlike giggle. “Oh my god, Adam!”
He took a-hold of her hand. “Amy, I love you. I know it’s only been a couple of months, but I’ve never been surer of anything in my life. Will you marry me?”
Amy bit her lip to stifle her tears. “Of course! Yes, of course!”
He threw his arms around her shoulders and hugged her tightly. She laughed and sunk into his strong chest, unable to believe this was real.
“Adam, this is wonderful! I’m honoured and touched!”
Amy expected him to say something smutty about being touched later, but actually, his expression was serious and full of tenderness. “I’m so lucky, Amy Carter. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“You’re so romantic. I can’t believe this.”
/> He gripped her hand and slipped the ring on her finger. “You bring out the best in me.”
Amy studied the sparkling ring for a moment, then her gaze drifted over to the picnic blanket where they’d had lunch a couple of hours ago. They’d both been too full to make love earlier, but now they had something to celebrate.
She kissed him tenderly, then more passionately. “Why don’t you remind me why I love you so much?”
He chuckled. “My pleasure!”
Holding her close, he picked her up in his arms, then carried her over to the soft rug, where they began to kiss frantically.
Adam nuzzled Amy’s neck while unbuttoning the front of her summer dress, then he moved down to suck her nipples, making her gasp with pleasure. “Oh yes, Adam!”
He moved back up and kissed her on the lips. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
They shared a smile. Delight surged through Amy as he reached down towards her panties – running his fingers over the material covering her pussy, which was swiftly getting wetter and more desperate for him to take her now. It felt subversive yet natural to be doing this al fresco in the beautiful sunshine.
Adam kissed her hard and delved his fingers into her panties, causing her body to shudder with lust. He was so commanding and dominating, and she relished the wonderful moments when her body and mind were utterly possessed by him. When she was totally his.
“I love it when you’re at my mercy,” he said. “I need to taste you. Taste how much you want me.”
Amy grinned, already lost in pleasure. Rolling around on this blanket with her wonderful fiancé – oh my god! – in the sunshine was perfection. He kissed her strongly on the lips, then journeyed back downwards, lingering to suck a nipple, moving down towards her pussy, getting ready to lick her into heaven.
Amy watched through half-closed eyes, as he peeled off her panties with his strong hands, then flicked her throbbing clit with his tongue, causing her pussy to pound hard and her fists to grip wildly. He shot her a smouldering glance, then eased two fingers inside her, stimulating her G-spot, already starting to send her over the edge.
“So tight for me,” he whispered.
Amy gasped and tilted her hips eagerly, rubbing herself against him and feeling as if she could easily climax.
“Tell me you want me to fuck you into ecstasy,” Adam said, grinning devilishly.
Amy laughed and opened her mouth, but the sound of a cell phone pulled them both out of the moment. Adam’s attention swept over to the sound.
“No, Adam, don’t!”
But Adam was already sitting up to grab it. “Wait, babe, it’s Dylan’s ringtone. He’s gonna freak out when I tell him I’m getting married! Then I promise I’ll get rid of him and continue fucking you so hard that you won’t be able to focus on anything but me for the rest of the day.”
Amy chuckled and reached down to gently rub her clit, unable to resist the throbbing urge. “Okay. Be quick.”
Adam grabbed the phone and put his brother on speakerphone. “Dylan, make this fast please – I was about to make love to my fiancée!”
“Sorry, Adam, but I… Fiancée? Oh my god, congratulations! Amy sure is one in a million.”
Amy grinned. “Thank you, Dylan.”
“Oh, hi, Amy… speakerphone. But congratulations!”
“Thanks!”
Adam leaned down and kissed her slowly, forcing Dylan to listen. “We’re both really excited.”
“Yeah, I can hear that.”
“Is everything okay in London, Dylan?” Amy asked.
“No, everything’s not fucking okay.”
She sat up. “What is it? The merger?”
“Not exactly. You heard of Vladimir Orlov?
“Sure,” Adam said. “He’s a soccer club owner and general shady guy, right?”
“Yeah – very shady. Well, the thing is, I slept with his wife and now she’s saying she’s fallen in love with me.”
Adam’s mouth fell open. “Oh Christ, Dylan. Does Orlov know?”
“Not yet. But she’s threatening to tell him – and the British tabloids. I think my life might be in danger… Can you come to London?”
Adam winced at Amy apologetically.
She nodded. “Of course – we Quinlans stick together, right.”
Adam grinned at this thought. Then he fell serious. “Alright, Dylan, we’ll just finish what we were doing. Then we’ll be on our way...”
