"I'm sure he did," she said with a smile that made both men laugh.
"The point is, on this occasion, Gisela wanted us both. So when Salis turned up by himself, she lost it. He fought admirably and I managed to get there just in time to see his bear die." His voice broke on those last few words, and she released Salis and wrapped her arms around Silas instead in the age-old form of giving comfort.
He pulled her tight against him for an instant and then released her.
"I lost it at that, and let my bear take over. I killed most of them, and Gisela, too, received a death blow." He stopped again and ran a hand through his hair, and Angelique's heart broke a little more for them both.
"I'd never killed another human being in my life, and that night I killed several. Their dying cries will be forever embedded in my brain, but as far as I could see, they'd killed my brother. With his bear left to die, his human side would follow, and that's when Gisela cursed us."
He stopped again, the far away expression in his beautiful eyes testament to how much it cost him to recount this story. Salis's wet nose nudged her back and she took a step towards Silas and grasped his hand, and squeezed.
"You can't blame yourself for those deaths. You'd thought your brother dead. That's enough to push anyone over the edge."
He gave her a weak smile and she nodded.
"So, she cursed you? How?"
I would live, but we had to share the same bear. Only one of us could ever be in human form at any given time, and we would be linked for all eternity. Doomed to feel each other's emotions. Sex intensifies the bond, forces us to shift in and out of each other's forms.
"It was the ultimate punishment. Not many women could cope with that. Most run away screaming blue murder. So we learnt to control our urges, to not let our emotions get away with us—until you that is. One touch from you was all it took. I couldn't fight this pull to you."
Silas grew quiet, and a silent look passed between man and bear, and in front of her eyes, his features changed to Salis.
Angelique gasped as Salis's beard appeared on his face, his jaw became even more angular and his brown hair grew longer still. He grew an inch and his frame bulked out more, making him tower over her. He brought their still joined hands to his lips, and kissed the back of her hand.
Electricity arched between them and he squeezed her fingers gently, making her smile.
"And there is one more thing, you need to know, before you make a decision, sweet thing. Any children of ours, we're not sure if they would carry this curse, so we both had a vasectomy to be on the safe side."
He watched her closely, and his eyes widened when Angelique laughed. Admittedly it was a rather hysterical laugh, but, really, what else was she to do?
"That's it? You're worried I won't accept you, because you can't have children? Do I look as though I want to settle down and bring up little Jimmys?"
Her laughter gave way to tears and she hugged her arms around herself, suddenly all too aware of her naked form. She yanked the sheet off the bed and wrapped it around herself like a shield, mindful of her lovers watching her every move. The concern she sensed from them gave her the courage to carry on.
"You would be right of course. I'd love to have a houseful of them. That's all I ever wanted."
Man and bear groaned as one, and she sensed their withdrawal from her rather than saw it. Salis looked so forbidding right now, as shiver of unease went down her spine. She wasn't afraid of him, exactly, but she edged away from the naked fury she saw in his eyes, until the bear's breath on her neck stopped her retreat. Silas rested his huge head on her shoulder, and his compassion brought peace to her troubled soul. She took a deep breath of his intoxicating scent, and carried on.
"However, that was never the life meant for me. You see, my mum had several miscarriages before me. That she carried me at all is a miracle. I came early, and was very poorly for a long time, but I pulled through to live the tale. Cutting a long story short I inherited mum's defect, only in my case my womb is so deformed that I could never conceive."
She angrily swiped away the renewed tears escaping, and before she could even blink Salis was on top of her. With him holding her in his beefy arms and Silas's bear form a reassuring form at her back, she allowed her grief to flow freely. By the time she finally stopped crying, a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
"That's why I became a teacher, only they village school closed and I haven't managed to get a new job yet."
"We can remedy that." Salis's deep voice rumbled through her and Silas nodded his approval against her back.
We lost our teacher a couple of months ago. She fell in love with a human and decided to leave the circus, leaving our young without a teacher. The job is yours if you want it?
Angelique couldn't help it, she screeched. It was loud enough for man and bear to wince and for the lion on the opposite side of the camp to growl his annoyance.
"Do I want the job? That's only like my dream job. Kids, and animals, and you two? Do you mean it? Would you really want me to stay?"
It was man and bear's turn to growl their annoyance and Salis pulled her close and kissed her. A kiss so gentle and full of passion that her insides melted. When he released her with a nip to her bottom lip, Angelique moaned her denial.
"Look at us."
Her eyes fluttered open at that whispered demand, and the beloved features of her two men blurred into one again.
"We love you. Stay with us."
Silas solidified in front of her, and he too pulled her close and kissed her with a desperation that matched her own.
"Stay, my little activist."
Angelique wrapped her legs around his waist and he groaned when the move brought his cock in direct contact with her pussy. It would take very little for him to sink home, and she broke the kiss with a sigh.
"I'll stay on one condition."
She rubbed herself along his dick and he tightened his hold on her with a growled," Anything, little one."
"Make love to me again."
Salis roared in amusement, and Silas threw her on the bed. She screeched when he leapt on top of her with a wicked grin.
"Always and forever."
Angelique gasped when he slid home in one fluid move and her eyes locked with Salis across the bed. The bear winked at her and she answered his silent plea in her head.
I love you two, both of you.

Chapter 1
Techno music pumped from the large speakers around the booth where a DJ spun live in the bright sunshine. The space in front of it a writhing mass of flesh where bodies in swimsuits undulated as they danced to the beat. Some partiers sat tanning on plush lounge chairs and others stood talking in the cool water of the crowded pool, the water barely visible with the number of people packed into it. The bars at the front and back of the club were crowded with those waiting to get drinks. It was a usual Thursday afternoon at the Marquee Day Club in Las Vegas.
Geneva slipped off the thin white linen cover up she wore to expose the hot orange and gold bikini beneath as she surveyed her hunting ground. A pleased smile spread across her lips as she took in the lush crop of gleaming male muscles glistening with a fine sheen of sweat in the hundred-degree heat. She couldn’t help the mental chop licking going on in her head. It had been four whole days since her last encounter with a…victim.
Although she’d never really believed it to be the right word.
Her mother always used it, albeit jokingly, and it’d become habit for her to use it too. She started to slip her way through the packed bodies to the bar on the far side. Before she’d gone two steps a hand tapped her on the arm.
“Are you coming to join us?” asked a male voice in a friendly tone.
She turned to examine him through her dark sunglasses. He was good looking, with short brown hair, and definitely in shape. “Join you?”
He smiled. “Yes I saw you
come in and I thought you were coming to join us. We’re right here.” He motioned to two lounge chairs littered with damp towels, personal belongings and about ten people, mostly men, crowded around the buckets of ice containing their bottle service.
He was American, judging by the accent, and Caucasian. He might do. She decided to play along with his ruse for a moment, although it was one of the worst pick up lines she’d ever heard. “Sure I’ll join you. But first, tell me who’s getting married.”
He raised his eyebrows in surprise. “How did you know?”
She could spot a bachelor party from a mile away.
Shrugging, she cocked her head to the side and gave him a nice smile. “Just a feeling.”
“Well, it’s me actually,” he said. “I’m getting married.”
“Congratulations.”
“So come join us, I’ll get you a drink.”
“I will. But I need to find my friends first. Will you be right here?”
He brightened and nodded.
“Ok, see you soon,” she lied and wandered off into the crowd. She wasn’t meeting any friends but had no intention of joining their party. Bachelor parties would seem like easy game, but they were a pain. Usually more than half the men were married, which you’d think would make them an easy target if wasn’t for all the guilt hang ups. She wasn’t in the mood to deal with that tonight. The other problem was that members of bachelor parties usually got so sodding drunk they became worthless later and that just wouldn’t do. Today she was in the mood for someone who could and would perform. Someone who had the energy she was craving.
She was stopped several more times by men as she made her way to the bar. When she ordered her drink, she didn’t end up paying for because another man stepped in to pay for her. She accepted his generosity with a smile and some conversation but then moved on. He wasn’t what she was looking for. Her slim form slipped gracefully through the crowd and chatted with men here and there. A couple of the ones she spoke to were acceptable but she wasn’t about to make a final decision until she’d looked them all over. There was plenty of time, hours in fact, until the club closed so the staff could clean up for the night.
She would definitely have her pick tonight with this crowd. There were people from all over the world. One minute she was speaking with a man from London and then the next minute one from South Africa.
She sipped through the straw of her drink as she flirted with a tall German.
“Where are you from?” he asked. “I can’t place your accent. It’s very exotic.”
She was from nowhere really. Her mother had liked to travel. “My father was in the military,” she said. That always seemed to make sense to people. “We moved around and lived in several different countries when I was growing up.” She actually hadn’t a clue who her father was. She’d never met him.
He nodded in understanding. She could feel his eyes travel over her body and she returned the favor with a scan of her own.
“Do you speak other languages?” he asked.
“Several.”
She continued to converse with him but her eyes flitted away occasionally as she continued her scan of the crowd. Bikini’s and swim trunks of varying colors clad bodies of all shapes and sizes. Waitresses made a production with lights and props as new bottles of vodka were brought out to customers. Go-go dancers in skimpy costumes had taken their places on platforms on either side of the DJ booth and were wriggling to the music.
At the far side of the pool her eyes lit on a man coming out one of the private, gated entrances that led to the bungalow suites lining that side. He was tall, with dark hair and a nice tan. She liked the way he walked, confident but not cocky. His trim waist and round butt made her sigh. She could see herself grasping that butt as she pulled him into her. He made his way over to one of the cabanas that were in the water at the back half of the pool where a group of men and women were lounging.
“I think I see my friend,” she said to the German man. “I’ll be back.” She walked away without a backward glance.
At the steps to the pool she removed her gold, wedge sandals and left them on the edge as she entered the cool water. It was shallow here, only coming a little over her knees. Down from the steps on either side were cabanas and at the far end a thin sheet of water poured down from up high forming a wide waterfall.
She waded out down the empty middle of the pool, making her way slowly to ensure he saw her. It wasn’t long before he did. Even through the dark aviator sunglasses he wore she could feel his eyes lock on her. He leaned against one of the corner poles of the cabana that supported the curtain rails up top and took a slow sip from his drink as he watched her.
She bent down to cup water in her hands and pour it over the top of her thighs, flicking the long auburn strands of her hair to one side so his view of her cleavage wouldn’t be obstructed. She smoothed the water down her legs with her hands for his benefit and then scooped water her arms as well, running her freshly manicured hands over herself. His gaze never left her, which meant none of those girls were his girlfriend. She was pretty sure he was single. A taken man would not be staring her down the way he was. She smiled at him as she continued on towards the waterfall. He smiled back, revealing even white teeth.
Removing her sunglasses, she moved to stand under the stream of water, enjoying the feel of the cool water as it cascaded over her. She smoothed her hair back from her face as she tiled her head back under the stream, her nipples puckering at the change in temperature. When she emerged and wiped the water from her eyes, he was standing right next to her.
“Feel good?” he asked.
She smiled and rested a palm against his taut midriff allowing her erotic energy to pour through to him. “Very.” She felt his light intake of breath at the contact. Slowly she ran her hands upwards towards the planes of his chest. A grin spread across his face and he rested his hand over hers, holding it to him, and stepped closer to her.
Checkmate.
Chapter 2
Stephen leaned back into the plush black leather of his chair and put a hand behind his head as he took in the view of Sydney Harbor from his office window. With his other hand he pressed his cell phone against his ear. His friend Mike was telling him about the trip to Las Vegas he’d missed out on.
“I’m telling you mate, you should have been there. It was off the hook. Joe won big at the craps table. He came back with a grand in his pocket.”
“I wish I could have but things have been really busy here. I just couldn’t get away. Was it as crazy as they say it is?” Stephen released the buttons of his white lab coat and eased it to the sides so he could put his feet up on the desk. He wished he had been able to make the time. It had been a reunion trip with friends from Uni that he hadn’t seen in a while. In fact, he hadn’t seen Mike since graduation because he’d moved away to Perth, on the other side of the country, for a great job opportunity.
“You have no idea. While I was there I met this girl… Man she was hot.”
“You don’t say?” Stephen smiled. Mike’s adventures always included a woman at some point.
“The most mind blowing sex I’ve ever had in my life…hands down.”
He rolled his eyes. “Come on, she couldn’t have been that much different from all the others you’ve told me about.” He enjoyed living vicariously through his friend but random flings weren’t his taste. He’d developed a healthy wariness of STD’s as a side effect of his many years in medical school.
“Seriously, I mean it. We went at it until five o’clock in the morning. And ever since then I’ve been having dreams about her. Vivid dreams. It’s like she comes to me every night.”
Stephen laughed. “Dreams? Really? You mean of the wet variety?”
“Piss off!”
There was a light rap at his door and Kelsey, one of the back office staff, poked her head through. “Dr. Wallace you’re next appointment is here.”
He waved at to her to show them in as he s
aid goodbye to Mike and sat up straight. Then he smiled as he recognized the couple that came in the door and rose and walked around the desk to greet them. “Beth, Sean. How are you?” He slapped his brother on the shoulder in greeting and hugged the petite blond that was his wife.
“We’re good. Doing good,” Sean said lightly.
But Stephen could tell by the tone that things were not good. “Have a seat.” He pulled out a chair for his brother’s wife and then went back around the desk to his own seat. “You didn’t need to make an appointment to see me, you could have just called.”
“We know how busy you are,” Beth said putting her hand into her husband’s.
“I’m never too busy for family,” he protested, but it wasn’t entirely true. He’d missed out on a good share of family events because of his job. Timing was everything in his line of work and his patients placed their faith in him.
“I thought an appointment would be appropriate just this once. We’re here because we need your help,” she said.
Stephen sat up straighter. He knew they’d been having trouble conceiving a child for a while now. He’d even referred them to a colleague of his a while back. “Isn’t Dr. Hannigan helping you?”
Sean put his arm around his wife’s shoulders as she began to tear up. “Dr. Hannigan’s been great. Just great. We appreciate you referring us to her,” he said. “It’s just…well we’ve spent the last four years trying everything. Nothing has worked. We went to see her last week to see what was next but…she says there’s nothing more she can do for us.”
His brother was holding back tears as well. He could see the redness in them. “I’m sorry to hear that.” He truly was sorry. He loved his little brother and Beth, she was like the little sister he’d never had. They were the nicest people too, which figured. It always seemed like this kind of stuff happened to the nice ones.
“We want you to help us,” Beth blurted in the silence.
He jerked back a little in surprise. Beth was usually very soft spoken but her usual mellow tone was replaced now by desperation. He was one of the leading fertility specialists in the country but treating one’s own family went against the Code of Medical Ethics.
