Almost every night, he would hold her in his arms and talk to her until she fell asleep. Sometimes she was fine, others she woke up crying or calling out for him. Today was a day to cry out.
“Open your eyes.” He shook her shoulders gently as he kissed her face, “Come on honey. Please Bree, wake up and open your eyes for me.”
“Was I dreaming again? Another nightmare?” She snuggled closer to him and he wrapped his arms around her.
“Yeah. You kept calling for me, saying that out of everything, I was your fortune. That was a new one. You haven’t yelled that one before. Have you any idea what it means?” He looked down as a smile came across her face.
“I know exactly what that means,” she said, as she kissed him. “The Tarot card reader told me that ‘the path to get to my fortune would not be an easy one’; but that I couldn’t ask for a better outcome and that once I found my fortune, I could have what I wanted and it would be better than I imagined.”
“And…” Matt asked.
Bree looked at the silver picture frame that sat on her bedside table. She had placed her Fortune Tarot card in it for safe keeping. She smiled as Matt hugged her tight and she knew exactly what her answer to him would be.
“And…she was right. My fortune card brought me to you Matt, you are my fortune, and you are more than and better than I could have ever imagined!”
“Honey, all you ever have to do is turn over, open your eyes, and see your fortune lying right next to you. Because darlin’, that is exactly where I plan on staying.”
