“Is it really the last piece?” my second, Orlando, asked me. His gray eyes stared hard at the artifact I held in my hands.
I nodded. “After millions of dollars spent searching for over a thousand years, yes… this must be what I’ve been looking for. I have to believe it is.” I turned to him. “The humans who found it?”
“Have been killed, my Liege, as instructed. No loose ends.”
I nodded, pleased by his response. “Now, I need the heart of a wolf Alpha and a dragon King.”
“That might be difficult to acquire.”
“But not impossible,” I said.
“We need to find ones with small armies, possibly young ones, and that’s going to be a challenge,” Orlando said.
I nodded. “I agree, the smaller the army, the less alliances they would have and the easier it will be for me to kill their leaders.”
“I hope this works,” Orlando said.
I put the totem in my safe behind the portrait of myself, next to the wolf totem. I wasn’t worried about Lydia seeing or hearing any of this, as I planned to wipe her memory clean of this interaction anyway. I looked at Orlando. “Check with my spies, see if they have anything new to report. See if there’s been any change in leadership, new mates, or territory battles.” I had always kept human spies in supe territories all around the world. Some had been killed and I just replaced them. I’d been doing so for over a thousand years. I’d kept my eye on Ara, especially since that son of a bitch was the one who’d taken my territory from me. I wanted what was his, including his prized possession: his son, Théoden. Oh, the things I would do to that one. The pleasures I would take from his body.
Payback was a bitch and once I completed the ritual and made myself and my entire line of vampires immune to dragon and werewolf venom, giving us dual venoms to use against our enemies and the ability to control fire and fly, nothing and no one would ever be able to take what was mine away from me ever again.
