I crawl to where I saw Lou last and come up empty. I look around the room and spot Matt holding Louise by the arm, gun pointed to her head.
“I said that’s enough!” Matt yells over the shooting and everyone stops dead in their tracks.
“If one more of my men get shot, I will shoot her in the fucking head.” He pushes the gun harder to her head and the Captain speaks.
“Alright, tell your men to leave. Let this be between you and me.”
Matt agrees and sends his men back to the club to clean up the mess. I’m hauled outside with Captains men, this is against my will.
Chapter Nineteen
Louise
I’M STANDING THERE WITH Matt and he has a gun pointed at my head while I’m bleeding out from a gunshot wound to the stomach. I’m starting to feel a little woozy and weak while the Captain tries to negotiate my life with him. Honesty, it is pointless, because Matt has wanted me dead since I came back home. He was more adamant to kill me early this morning after what happened with his club, and this morning just keeps circling around in my mind.
Matt came home in the early hours this morning, he stormed into my room which is the spare room in the house. He pulled me out of bed and dragged me down the hallway into the kitchen area. I looked up and his face is covered in blood, his clothes are soaked as well, and then I noticed five or six other men there, waiting for whatever Matt is going to do. I started to get anxious, nervous and scared. That was it. That was how I was going to die, by the hands of Matt and probably his boys.
“Sit, first we are going to talk about what just happened and how you stepped out of line, yet again.” Matt pulled out a chair for me to sit on. He remained standing and his boys stood behind him.
“So let’s start where I left you with Rick and Rover, and then came back to where you were with Kyle, who isn’t in the Bloody Eagles.” He stood there with his legs apart and his arms are crossed over his chest.
“Well they left me, and I was tired of waiting for you. Then I looked and there you were, with two blonde bimbos, flirting away. Then you start feeling one up and sucking face with the other. So you could say I was a little jealous, and then this guy looked so hot I wanted to jump his bones, but all he wanted was to talk and dance, so I let him. Maybe to make you jealous, but you didn’t seem to notice or care about me. So we danced and flirted, a lot, and then we wanted to get a room together, so we did and made out for a while until you barged in, and you know the rest. Did you kill him?” I asked, I wasn’t sure on what the answer he would give me, but I wanted to hear it.
“No, he isn’t dead but he is somewhere no one will find him, as well as the others who had crossed us. What you did was the worst kind of fucked up thing anyone could have done to me. I lost so many of my men, my brothers, and you will pay, bitch.” He leaned closer and stroked his finger down my cheek before he gave it a big slap.
Ouch that hurt.
“It was your fucking fault!” I spat at Matt, he shouldn’t have left me and then gone to the booth with the blonde skanks.
“You keep forgetting that I do what I want, when I want, and obviously with whom I want.” He stepped back and motioned for one of the boys to take his place. I had never seen that guy before. He had bright red hair styled in spikes, many piercings on his face, and his whole neck was covered in tattoos. Was that guy a joke?
“Scar, can you take over while I make a few calls. Go for your life on her but don’t let her get too beaten up yet. I still want my fair share.” I watched Matt leave and I turned my attention back to that Scar guy, who kinda scared me a little bit.
“Soo… what will I do with you?” He stepped up into my face and produced a rope from behind his back. When did he get that? Great, I hated being tied up especially with rope.
He went around behind me and grabbed both of my hands, pulled them behind my back and tied the rope tight. I gave them a little tug but nothing seemed to budge. This was going to be a long day. I wondered if they would let me go to the toilet. That’s when I noticed; I was still in my PJ’s. The silk on my skin was making me cold and I got goose bumps.
He came around from behind me and smirked. He leaned closer and whispered in my ear, “I’m going to have fun hurting you now.” He pulled away, swung his arm back, his fist clenched, and punched me in the stomach. I cried out in pain. What the fuck!
“That fucking hurt, why would you even do that,” I said with such fierceness, I would say anything right now for him to not take another swing at me.
“Get used to it. Every one of us is going to take a turn until Matt returns. I’ve had my turn and there are still five others waiting. I hope you enjoy it while it lasts, slut.” He walked away while Rick stepped up.
He stood right in front of me, he didn’t say a word but there was such pure hatred in his eyes and just as he smirked, his fist connected with the side of my jaw. What the actual fuck!
I couldn’t handle any more pain right then. I couldn’t even rub it to numb the pain. It was throbbing and all I wanted to do was escape, to go back to my perfect life, to try and get to know Alex. Oh I missed Alex. I wished I had told him the truth about me, and then maybe none of this would have happened.
Rick walked away and I waited as Sanders was next person up in Scar’s sick game.
“What have you gotten yourself into Lou? I wish you had stayed away. Now look at Matt’s life since you came back? You’ll die tonight. He has lost brothers and his club is under investigation.” He shook his head at me. “I really don’t want to hit you Lou, but Matt is family and I owe him my life, so I am sorry, and if that makes me a pussy then fine, but I have always been rooting for you. This is going to hurt.” He stepped closer, leaned down and brushed my hair off my face. He kissed my cheek just before he swung his arm back and hit my left cheekbone.
I roared out loud from the pain and withered in my seat. That was going to swell and I would be lucky if it wasn’t broken.
“I agree with Sanders, I wish you hadn’t of come back. Sure Matt found out you were alive, thanks to the careless Jax, but he might have left you alone. No one would have known, what Sanders said, this is going to hurt.” Rover took Sanders place and moved into position just before he took a hit towards my eye socket. Holy shit!!
I was in so much pain I was screaming very loud. I couldn’t take the pain anymore. I started to see black and I felt like I was floating on a cloud. Finally, the blackness won and I didn’t feel the pain anymore.
I heard voices when I drifted in and out of sleep. “You can’t leave her tied up to the chair like that, she needs to put ice on that eye.”
I heard Matt arguing with one of the boys, but I couldn’t tell who it was. “No fucking way, that bitch deserves whatever you gave her Rover. Now leave her right where she is, she will wake up soon and then it will be my turn.”
“Matt, do you think that is a wise choice? Why don’t you just leave her alone for tonight at least and come back to her tomorrow?” Rover was arguing on my behalf, he was always the fighter.
“No, it’s already midnight and I want my turn.”
Matt shakes me back to the present, I look around the room and the Captain is still trying to persuade Matt.
“It’s… no use… Captain,” I croak out before I sink to my knees, I feel the pull of the darkness again. It’s nice and warm there. I am so tired. I just want to rest my eyes.
Matt has a better idea. He pulls me to my feet again, shakes me until I open my eyes and I look towards the Captain.
“Look Captain, Louise here is going to die from my hands tonight whether you like it or not.” Matt leans down and gives me a quick kiss on the lips before he uses two hands to grab hold of my head and bang it on the wall. He bangs it twice. The first one didn’t satisfy him enough so he gave me the second one. He hit it so hard I heard a loud crack. I look over and see the Captain’s face is pale, like he’s just seen a ghost. When I look behind him, I see one of Matt’s men with his gun raised.

; I hear the loud bang and see the Captains body go limp and fall to the ground. Blood is pooling around his head and body.
I gasp and I watch as one of Matt’s men run outside the back door and escape.
“Goodnight Sweetness, I hope hell is kind to you.” Matt gives my head one last hit against the wall, and before I black out I hear more gunshots and yelling. Then a split second before the black has pulled me under one last time, I spot those green eyes again.
Alex has come to save me.
Chapter Twenty
Alex
WAITING OUTSIDE WHILE THE Captain talks to Matt is fucking ridiculous, Matt should have a bullet between his eyes right about now but instead, he is breathing and touching my girl.
I pick up the pacing back and forth on the front lawn while the Captain’s men try and come up with a plan to save Lou and the Captain, as well as arrest Matt. Yeah, they are dreaming if they think we can do all those things.
I turn to tell them exactly what I’m thinking when I hear the first gunshot. I turn around to ask them what are they waiting for and they already have their guns raised and are running towards the front door.
I follow right behind them when Captain’s men open fire at Matt’s retreating figure, but he escapes with minor injuries. He’ll have a few bullet wounds but I’m sure his men can fix him up.
I turn around and go towards the Captain. There is so much blood that I don’t stop and think. My training has kicked in and I assess the situation. I bend down on my knees and use two fingers to check for a pulse at his neck. When I don’t feel a pulse, I call it. “The Captain is gone fellas. I’m sorry.” I give a moment of silence and get up to go look for my girl.
That’s when it hit me, so many feelings swirling around in my chest. It hit me like a tidal wave, rooted me in place, and I can’t move. I can only feel these emotions one by one, and the feeling of disappointment hit me harder because I couldn’t save Louise when I first met her.
I’m scared because I don’t know if she will pull through this, and judging by how much blood she has lost.
I feel vulnerable for letting my feelings get in the way.
I mentally kick myself to snap out of this pussy-whipped state and run towards to where Louise is lying on the floor.
I get on my hands and knees, and turn her body so it’s laying half on my lap and half on the floor. I push her hair out of her face and check for physical damage. I assess the bruising on her face, possibly a broken eye socket. I feel around her head and come up wet, her head is bleeding really badly and then there is the gunshot wound to her stomach. I check for a pulse at her neck and find there is one, but it is weak. I try to wake her up before the ambulance gets here.
“Louise, precious, it’s Alex. I’m here, please wake up. You’re safe now.” I rock her back and forth but she doesn’t respond.
I slip out of my shirt and press it to her stomach to try and stop some of the bleeding. She’ll need a blood transfusion when she gets to the hospital. I must check if we match, I need to do something to help her.
“Alex, the paramedics are here. You need to get up and away from her while they do their job.” One of the guys comes over and puts his hand on my shoulder. I use his help to get up and watch as the paramedics lift Louise’s unconscious body on the spine board.
I follow them to the ambulance, wanting to get a ride with them to the hospital. There is no way I am letting her out of my sight again.
The paramedics radio the hospital about Louise condition.
“Snake Valley Hospital, Emma speaking.”
“Hey Emma, this is Annie. I have an unconscious 25-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the stomach; she has lost a lot of blood. There seems to be an open wound to the head and a broken eye socket. Vitals are showing up low as well as blood pressure. We are approximately ten minutes away.”
“Thanks for reporting in Annie, I’ll have an OR prepped upon your arrival.”
We arrive at the hospital and they rush Louise into the OR. I’m not allowed back there so I make my way to the waiting room. There are a few phone calls I need to make now.
“Hey man, do you know what time it is? It’s a little after three in the morning! What the fuck do you want?” Reece voice is grainy from waking up.
“Yeah, sorry tonight has been a mess. I’m in San Diego at the hospital. We got Lou out but she’s in surgery and I don’t know anything yet. This is a fucking mess. She wasn’t even stable enough to get transferred to Black Forrest.” I get up and start pacing the waiting room. There are so many more people to call after I hang up with Reece.
“Do you want me to fly out there to bring you a change of clothes and be a friend?” He seems more alert now that he knows Lou is safe.
“Nah man, you wouldn’t be much help here anyway. I’m going to call a few more people and wait until I hear anything. I’ll buy a change of clothes and find the nearest hotel to get some sleep before Louise wakes up.”
“Alright, give me a call if you need me. Take it easy Alex. She is going to need you.” I disconnect the call and dial Steph’s number.
“Hello… Alex is that you?” Steph sounds tired and drained.
“Yeah Steph, it’s me, I’m sorry it’s so late, or early, whatever way you want to look at it, I’m just calling to let you know that Lou is in hospital. She is in surgery and she isn’t stable enough to be transferred back home. I’ll be here until she is able to. I will call you when I hear anything.” I hear soft sobs and brace for the water works but they don’t come.
“Thank you Alex. I think I’m going to get some sleep. Just text me an update, and I’ll call you when I wake up.” She hangs up and that leaves me to call my father. I have to give him the bad news about the Captain.
I dial my father’s number and wait for the ringing to stop, but instead I’m greeted with his voicemail. I can’t tell him this way so I leave a message for him to give me a call when he’s awake.
“Are you Alex? Are you here about Louise Carter?” A doctor in his late 60’s steps out of the sliding doors that lead to the operating rooms.
I stand up and meet him halfway, nodding as I’m walking towards him.
“Yes, I’m Alex, how is she? When can I see her?” I get the most important questions out first and wait for his response.
“I’m doctor Blakely, I was the one to operate on Louise and I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that I managed to stop the bleeding in her stomach. The bullet bypassed all the major organs and I managed to get it out intact.” The doctor looks me square in the eyes when he says the next sentence, “But the bad news is that with the head injury Louise has sustained and her unconscious state, we had to induce a coma. We need to allow the swelling in the brain to go down before we can do scans to see if there’s internal bleeding.”
I take a step back, I can’t listen to any more bad news but I need to ask this next question, “Will she make it?” I brace myself for the news, whatever it may be.
“It’s too soon to say but looking at her charts and with the injuries she’s suffered, it’s not looking good. I suggest you contact her family.” The doctor walks off and leaves me alone with my thoughts.
I was hoping she would pull through and then he has to tell me to contact her family. Fuck!
I want to punch something, but before I do anything stupid, I exit the hospital and walk the streets until I find the nearest hotel. I check in and hit the shower. Once I’ve freshened up, I slowly walk towards the bed and lay on it, thinking over the last couple of weeks and how my life has taken a huge turn for the worst. Before I know it, I’ve drifted off to sleep thinking about my precious.
