Until You Page 3

They walked in silence until they reached the Steak Shack. Sam ordered steak salads and fries for them. He turned to Trina. "Do you want a drink?"

She looked at the menu. "I'll take a sweet iced tea." Trina said, smiling at the cashier.

"Make that two," Sam added, handing the cashier money.

"I can pay for mine." Trina pulled out her wallet and reached for her cash.

Sam's hand appeared over hers; she looked up him. His eyes were blue as the sky and his smile beamed. "My treat," he said softly. He held her hand for a moment, then pulled away, glancing nervously at the floor.

Once the food was delivered he looked thankful for the distraction.

"Thanks," she said. "It looks fabulous. I haven't had junk food all week, and those fries smell great!" Melted cheese covered the fries, and her mouth watered at their savory aroma.

"Ah, cheat day huh?" he asked with a smile. "I should really get back to that myself. I haven't been doing too great the last couple weeks." He patted his stomach. "Summer is my biggest enemy. I'm not too great being strict with my diet, and I've been enjoying junk food a little too much lately."

Trina just smiled and nodded. Did surfer boy ever stop smiling? She laughed a little as he patted his stomach. She assumed there was not an ounce of fat on that hard body. After staring for a moment, she caught her mind wandering. She couldn't stop thinking about his hard body. Staring at his defined chest muscles, then his stomach, she wanted to reach out and touch those finely toned abs. Snap out of it, she scolded herself. She really needed to get laid.

She spotted a picnic table in the corner. Trying to put a little distance between them, if only for a moment, she made a beeline for it. As she tied Toby's leash around the table leg, Sam followed, also tying Belle up.

"Here you go." He sat the tray down between them. "Best steak salads on the beach." His crystal eyes sparkled and he flashed that irresistible smile at Trina again, as he sat down across from her.

She took her salad off the tray. Her stomach growling was no joke, she was starving. Spearing a forkful of lettuce and piece of steak, she dipped it in some dressing before taking a bite. She was starting to wonder if maybe a one-night stand wasn't exactly what she needed. While surfer boy looked away, she stole a glance, watching his hair fall into his eyes as he ate. She tossed Toby a piece of lettuce. "Crazy dog loves lettuce."

  ****

Sam watched her, his eyes wandering down her body, checking her out in her black bikini top. Her breasts were large and full, demanding attention. Eating some fries he had long forgotten about his poor eating habits, all he really wanted to devour was her. He sat staring at her bikini top. Realizing he was being obvious, he shook his head and looked away, grabbing the bag of hot dogs. "You guys must be hungry by now." He took each hot dog out and tore it up into three pieces. He fed a piece to Belle as Trina fed a piece to Toby. "So, Trina. What was that song you were singing yesterday?" That tune was still running though his head.

Trina's face reddened at his mention of her singing. She moved some food around her plate, taking in a breath before she answered, "It's called Gone. You've probably heard a newer version on the radio. The song has been around forever; it was originally recorded back in the thirties. My grandfather used to always whistle that tune." She smiled at the mention of her grandfather. "One day I asked him what song he was always whistling, and he sang it for me." She paused.

"Oh yeah?" He smiled until he noticed her face fall and her eyes become watery. "You okay?" He didn't mean to make her upset.

"Yep," she replied. Shaking the sadness away, she tried to regain her composure. "I just really haven't thought about my grandfather in a while." Avoiding eye contact with him she stabbed a piece of lettuce, concentrating on her salad.

He wanted to press on to find out was going on in that mind of hers. "You wanna talk about it?" he asked, his face more serious now.

It had been a long time since he had an intelligent conversation with a female, well, besides his sister. Puck bunnies had one thing on their mind, and they couldn't talk while doing it. He was young, and that was all he was looking for back then. But this girl was different. She seemed smart with a little bit of sass, and he liked that. "It's okay if you don't. But I am a good listener..." he said, trailing off leaving it up to her.

  CHAPTER 5

Trina laughed nervously. "There's nothing to talk about really. I'm fine. Just hadn't thought about my Grandad in a while, that's all." Her eyes started to flood with tears and she was doing her very best to hold them back. She wished thinking about him didn't make her so sad.

She swallowed hard before continuing. "He taught me how to sing that song. We would spend hours just singing together. But that one song stuck with me. Actually—" She speared more lettuce on her fork, "he encouraged me to study voice. My first time singing for a professional hockey game he was as proud as can be in the stands. He was there for the game too, don't get me wrong, we are a hockey family. But I think his proudest moment was me on the ice belting out the Canadian national anthem."

"That's awesome that you sing at the games. Plus great story about your Grandad." Sam flashed her a soft smile.

"Yeah. He was a good man." She tried to muffle a little giggle as a thought came to her mind.

"What's funny?" he questioned her. He smiled at her innocent bout of laughter.

"Just something I was thinking about. It's nothing. You probably don't care about my silly stories—"

  Sam interrupted her. "Try me."

Trina couldn't help the smile forming on her face. It had been too long since she had someone to just sit and talk to. Well, besides Toby. "My Grandad loved to sing, he liked to whistle too. So happy go lucky. Sometimes when he was singing, he would turn to the nearest person and ask 'Bet you didn't know I could sing huh?' then continue on with his song. He never cared who was around or who was listening. Sometimes I would get my little toy microphone out, and him and I would pretend we were having a concert in my grandparent's backyard."

Toby's barking brought her back to reality. She realized she was telling all this stuff to a complete stranger, and was more than likely boring him to death. "I'm sorry. I'm sure you don't care about any of this. I don't know why I was rambling on and on." She rolled her eyes and then grabbed a few fries. Turning away from Sam, she tossed them to Toby.

"Don't apologize, please. It was a nice memory and I enjoyed hearing about it." Sam also grabbed a fry, tossing it to Belle, then ate a few more himself. "So you sing the anthem for hockey games?" he asked, attempting to get more information out of her.

"Yeah. I mean, I did...In Winnipeg...Not all of them, but most of them." Dammit, she was rambling. Tilting her head, she paused and looked inquisitively at him for a second. "It's only fair that you tell me something about yourself now, right?" she said with a smile. She tossed Toby a few more fries then scarffed a few down herself.

"Not much exciting here." He shrugged. "You know, the usual. My passions have always been the waves and hockey. Two complete opposite things," he said, laughing.

Trina ignored the fact that he mentioned hockey. She hadn't meant to bring her hockey family into the conversation, and she was trying to change the subject. She tossed Toby and Belle a few more fries. Satisfied, the dogs both laid down and relaxed. Trina smiled at Toby.

"Rest up, boy, so you can go chase more seagulls after this." Turning back to Sam, he had a grin on his face. Did he ever stop smiling?

"Headed back to the beach?" he asked, the corner of his mouth turning up in amusement.

"Yeah, I left my blanket out and we're gonna play for a while." She started to feel like she was rambling again. "Especially after eating dinner," She said, patting her full belly.

"Awesome, we're going to the beach too. It will be nice for Belle to have another dog to play with."

Before she could say anything else, the conversation was over and they finished their salads. He was definitely flirting with her, and she was embarrass
ed to admit that she liked it.

Trina strolled along the water, humming her favorite song. Toby was at her side watching his new doggie friend. Sam tossed the frisbee and Belle ran after it, jumping with ease into the air and catching it in her mouth. She landed softly on the sand and ran back to Sam, eager for another throw.

"She's so funny," Trina said as she walked towards Sam.

"Why?" Sam asked, launching the frisbee into the air again.

"Because she is so graceful, almost cat-like," Trina said as Belle leaped into the air and landed gently on all fours, racing back to Sam.

"Graceful, definitely. Just like her name, she is definitely a princess," he said, laughing. "Will Toby play catch?"

Trina shrugged. "Maybe. I dunno. We play fetch but I've never thrown a frisbee to him." Frisbee, such a surfer boy thing to do, she thought.

"Well let's find out! Toby! Fetch boy!" he yelled and tossed the frisbee. It whizzed past Toby.

Trina laughed as she watched Toby wait for it to land. He ran over to it, picked it up and brought it back.

"He thinks you're playing fetch," she said, amused.

"That's okay." Sam shook his head. "We'll teach him how to catch." Before Trina could think about what he just said, he yelled, "Go, Belle!" He tossed the frisbee again.

Trina walked over to her blanket. Kneeling down she started to put away her sunscreen and sunglasses. She stood and admired the ocean waves. Toby came running over to her very excited. "Looks like he is enjoying himself."

"They both do," Sam answered. He tossed the frisbee to Belle again. This time Toby took off running with Belle, he was trying to beat her to the frisbee. Laughing, Sam called, "Toby is stepping up! Be careful, boy, she's like a ninja!"

Trina just shook her head, as both dogs took off after a flock of seagulls. "Damn birds get 'em every time, don't they?" She shook her head. She noticed a few people on the boardwalk watching the dogs play.

"Yeah, plus I think they like the freedom to run on the beach like this." It was empty enough so they could play and not bother anyone. Sam walked over to where Trina stood. Watching her staring out at the water. Her long hair swirled around in the soft wind. Sam pushed his own hair out of his eyes.

Trina closed her eyes as the breeze rushed over her skin, taking a moment to breathe in the fresh ocean air. The old Trina would have been in bed with him last night, not spending the night lying awake thinking about him. She licked her lips at the thought, her mouth now dry. Closing her eyes again, she enjoyed the coolness of the salty air against her hot skin.

She felt Sam moving closer to her. Before she could turn around and respond, the dogs started to bark. They watched both dogs running at them full force, and they were not slowing down.

"Belle!" he yelled but she was more interested in the birds on the other side of the blanket then what he was saying to her.

Trina turned just as Toby hit the back of her legs, taking her out at the knees. "Oh shit!" She screamed as she stumbled for a second then tumbled backwards onto the blanket.

Before she could laugh, because it was pretty funny, she saw Sam tumbling down almost on top of her. She let out a squeal, then a loud laugh.

  ****

Watching her stare out at the ocean, Sam wanted to grab her hips and pull her into him. He wanted her to feel his growing desire.

Trina's hair was flying in the breeze. Reaching to smooth her hair down, he was hoping to hold her close in the process. Until he was knocked over by two very strong fur balls, on a mission to chase the birds.

Trying to catch himself, he was concerned he would end up hurting Trina if he fell on her. Her scream worried him as he landed close to her, until her laughter filled the air.

He was lying almost on top of her. "At least the sand is soft," he said. Laughing, he looked over at Trina. "Are you hurt?" He rolled up onto his side to make sure she was okay.

Trina lay flat on her back, laughing. "Nope, I'm fine. My butt hurts a little, but I think I'll be okay." She lay there for a few moments. She rested her hand on her bare stomach, basking in the beach breeze that ran across her body. She looked backwards to find out where the dogs were. They were still chasing seagulls together. She turned back towards Sam, only to find him watching her.

Their bodies were so close he could feel her warmth. He watched her for a moment, listening to the waves and the birds. The dogs seemed to be entertaining each other, and this quiet moment was nice.

Sam could not take his eyes off of Trina. He just watched her, taking it all in. Neither of them moved for the longest time.

"Your tattoos," she said, breaking the silence.

"You like them?" He smiled and glanced down at both works of art briefly.

"Yeah, I do. But what the hell is a surfer boy doing with hockey tattoos?" she asked. A smile crept across her lips as she playfully ran her finger along the tattoo of the most desired trophy in hockey, The Cup.

Sam was having a hard time keeping distance between them. Chills ran through his body as she ran her fingertip along his tattoo. His mouth went dry and now his shorts had little room left in them. His dick grew hard from being this close to her; he was doing his best to behave.

She wasn't doing anything special, and she still had his body begging for her. Shaking his head a little he tossed his hair out of his eyes. The side of his mouth curled up, he was amused by her comment. "Surfer boy, huh?"

Trina's face grew red. Sitting up on her elbows, her face was now closer to his. "What?" she said and shrugged.

Sam felt her eyes rake over his body. "Surfer boy huh?" he asked again as he sat up crossed legged, breaking the moment. "You're only part right. I do love to surf, and I am from California. So I guess that does make me a surfer boy. I do love those gnarly waves. Dude," he said, smiling bright and mocking every surfer he ever met.

"Cute. So, you're not a surfer boy?" Her eyes narrowed as if she was trying to figure him out.

"I'll tell you what. Let's think about getting out of here," He said, flashing her an irresistible smile. "We'll light the fire pit on my deck, have some beers and you can ask me anything you want. Sound good?"

  CHAPTER 6

Trina stared into the fire as both dogs lay sound asleep on the cool wood. Playing in the sand had really tired them out. She thought about that moment on the beach, lying next to Sam. There was no doubt in her mind that she found him sexy. She definitely wanted him in her pants.

Damn she was horny! The delicious thought of his body on hers, and him taking her right there on the beach crossed her mind, as she felt her bikini bottoms dampen. Her girly parts that she thought were ready to shrivel up and die were sure working overtime right now. The idea of a one-night stand with him made her mouth water. Shaking her head, she let out a sigh as she looked out past the flames to the ocean.

The sun was setting, the beach was practically empty; it was calm and peaceful. The sky looked as if it was painted beautifully with a mix of pinks and purples. Trina reached for her bag, pulling out her tube of lip gloss.

As Sam returned with their drinks, he paused to watch her re-apply her lip-gloss. He handed her a beer. "Here ya go."

"Thanks. So, this is really nice up here." Never mind the fact that the deck was right outside his bedroom. "Kinda cool to be looking down at the beach."

"I like it too. It's nice to have a place to relax that isn't right on the boardwalk." He glanced over at her condo; it didn't have an upstairs porch. Pointing to it, he grinned. "I actually picked this one over yours for this reason. With steps leading down to the boardwalk, it's convenient to get Belle in and out." He sat down next to Trina on the padded wicker couch. "Plus, a fire pit down right on the boardwalk would not be a good idea."

She agreed. "Yeah, I guess." She looked back into the fire. It crackled against the background noise of the waves crashing on the beach. The horizon growing darker, and the tide changed slowly.

She loved being here. She had been so tense living with Talia and Mike since Ma
rc died. She loved her sister, but it never felt like home. Plus she missed singing. Being here, she felt free of all her baggage. Her first day here, the feel of the sand on her skin, the sun warming her body, and the sound of the waves, she knew she had finally let go of the pain from losing Marc. It was the perfect place for a new start.

Realizing she had been daydreaming, she turned back towards Sam. "So," Trina said, before taking a long gulp of beer.

"So, ask away." He leaned back, crossing one leg over the other, and resting his arm on the back of the wicker couch.

"Pretty sure we were talking about you not being a California surfer dude?" She tiled her head as she studied him. Her body froze when he looked at her with those blue eyes, the bluest she had ever seen. He made her a bit tongue tied. She was having trouble forming words. Was she nervous? No. Trina never got nervous.

She shook her head. She couldn't think straight. She chalked it up to the fact that she needed sex. But she had never felt so much like a schoolgirl around a guy before. She never got nervous around someone that she was simply going to hook up with. That was more of a wham, bam, thank you ma'am.

Taking a breath, she tucked her hair behind her ear.

"Not really. Next?" He was egging her on; being facetious on purpose, and she was not amused. But she was definitely turned on.

Trina rolled her eyes. This guy thinks he's real funny. Twisting her body so she was almost facing him, tucking one leg beneath her. "And hockey?" she asked abruptly. Her body was screaming for him.

Still surprised that she didn't know who he was, he watched her for a moment before answering. "It's my favorite sport, of course." He shrugged, flashing her a playful grin.

Sam was just staring at her, grinning. She squirmed under his stare and warmth washed over her body, and it wasn't from the fire pit. Things were getting intense. She dropped her eyes to the ground for a second; she needed to catch her breath. Trina ran her fingers through her hair, sweeping it away from her face.
