The Wolf With The Silver Smile (The Silver Series) Page 6

by Samantha Bates

As he put his runners on, he got to the door and noticed one of the kitchen chairs against the wall, why would she have a chair there? He had noticed it earlier but hadn't realized the significance; the only thing he could think was that she had wedged it under the door. Yet that made no sense, was she really that scared for her safety? As he stood looking at the chair he couldn't think of any other explanation. Well if she was that scared, he wouldn't be able to leave and wedge the chair under the door, so he turned around. He would have to stay the night so he could protect her.

  Chapter 6

Morgan wasn't disorientated when she woke this time, she knew where she was and she felt safe for the first time…ever and it felt pleasant. She had dreamt of the wolf again last night, he comforted her in her dreams. This time in her dream he had followed her around before sleeping at the bottom of her bed, keeping her nightmares at bay.

She thought of Nicky and how much fun she had last night, she was pleased he had stopped trying to seduce her. For someone like him, she would just be another conquest and she couldn't cope with that. She had no intention of doing any training with him; she would have to find another way to protect herself from people and other species.

Growing up she hadn't come into contact with other species, she had however heard of them and all the things they did to humans. She had been taught that they came from the being who wanted to destroy them all, but Ben and Nicky didn't seem like that. The more she thought about it in the cold light of morning Morgan realized that he had a point, she needed to take control of her fear instead of letting it control her. She would join a self-defense class instead of taking Nicky up on his offer; it wasn't fair to take up Nicky's time.

Getting out of bed she stretched, marveling at the spectacular and comfortable bed. Something felt odd though and then Morgan realized that she had fallen asleep on the sofa, Nicky must have carried her to bed. She looked down at herself and couldn't see any sign that she had been taken advantage of, although she wasn’t sure if she would mind or not. Thinking of Nicky she smiled, people misunderstood him; he truly was a big softie.

As she wandered into the lounge, a movement to the right of her made her scream out loud. Immediately she went into panic mode which started the hyperventilating.

"Hey, hey Pixie calm down. It's only me." Thank god it was only Nicky, her body instantly calmed but her brain went into overdrive. "What, what are you doing here?"

"You fell asleep on the sofa, I tucked you in. I was going to leave until I realized that if I left there would be no-one to wedge the chair under the door, so I stayed."

  "Really?"

Nicky nodded, he could have added that he enjoyed staying with her, protecting her but he didn't to scare her. Instead they had breakfast together; before he waited patiently while she showered, his mind restraining himself even though his wolf was urging him to join her. He then walked her to the office; she thought he would leave until he sat on one of the chairs in the reception room.

"What are you doing?" She asked as she set the kettle going and settled herself behind her desk.

"Just waiting for Ben, but a coffee would be good." How could she say no when he gave her that smile and tilted his head?

When Ben did arrive, he took one look at Nicky before his face darkened. "My office Nicky." His voice was loud and gruff with annoyance.

Nicky jumped up laughing, Morgan was certain that Nicky didn’t notice that Ben was in a foul mood, if he had he wouldn't be laughing would he?

As soon as Nicky closed the door, Ben quietly berated him. "I thought I said to leave her alone."

"What makes you think I didn't?" Nicky was smiling at Ben, he quite enjoyed stressing Ben out, especially when the little vein at the side of his head that popped out, like now. For once Nicky would enjoy hearing Ben's apology.

"She's here, you're here and wearing yesterday's clothes. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out."

"Well clearly it does, I can't believe you have no faith in me." Nicky smiled whilst his tone was arrogance, as Ben raised his eyebrow. "You are right and wrong Ben, I had dinner with her, and I stayed the night. Sit down; I stayed the night on the sofa after she fell asleep."

Ben stood anyway while Nicky watched as the vein threatened to explode. "You expect me to believe that?"

"I don't care if you don't, she fell asleep I didn't want to wake her, but she is scared Ben, so scared that she has been wedging a chair under the door. If I left while she was asleep, she couldn't wedge the chair so I slept on the sofa, like a gentleman."

  "Really?"

Laughing, Nicky quite liked it when Ben was wrong though it didn’t happen often enough. "Scouts honor and now you big brother owe me an apology."

"Maybe but not until you tell me what is going on with you? Normally you would have screwed her, and left me having to deal with yet another heartbroken PA."

"I might still do that." His ribbing went too far when he saw Ben's fists clench.

"Hey I was joking; Right now she needs a friend way more than a bed partner, so I am doing the honorable thing and being her friend. Speaking of which, can you get mom to invite her to dinner tonight, left on her own she eats nothing but noodles. Oh and I am bringing her home to train three times a week, she needs to know how to protect herself. Now I need to go home and shower, promise me that you will stay in the office until I return."

Ben sat down confused, gaping open mouthed at Nicky as though he had grown another head. "You're coming back?"

"I don't have a choice, until the little Pixie can take care of herself, I will have to take care of her. So will you stay in the office?" Ben didn't need to answer, Nicky just swept out of the room.

And true to his word and both Ben and Morgan's surprise, Nicky did return and he returned every day over the next two weeks. Ben was over the moon; he had what he wanted, Nicky actually working.

Morgan had noticed Ben leaving the office more often, letting Nicky carry the load. He left Nicky to manage several tricky business meetings alone, Morgan had been part of the meetings recording minutes and she was surprised and a little proud of him, he was so good with people. Where Ben would bark, Nicky would smooth. Some nights, he would bring her dinner and fall asleep on her sofa. On other nights he would take her to the pack for dinner and training. The training she had planned to avoid, the training he had insisted she do.

After that first night however, Ben had her call a lock smith only for him to insist that she pick extra locks for the apartment. Morgan knew Nicky must have said something, but she was secretly pleased to have three more locks. She now felt safe enough to put the chair in the kitchen, where it belonged.

Morgan was thoroughly enjoying the training, even though Nicky had passed her over to Lucky. She was genuinely surprised that not only was Lucky strong but she was one hell of a fighter. Morgan had even watched Lucky and Ben spar with each other; it was scary and awesome at the same time. Nicky was always there when she trained but in the background, he had started training her the first time but after about two minutes he had mumbled 'I can't do this,' the next thing she knew, Lucky was there.

In the space of three weeks her whole life had changed, she still had the panic attacks although where they had been a daily occurrence for as long as she could remember; they were now occasional. Nicky had taken her to meet a real life witch; she was lovely and kept hugging her, anyway she had made Morgan a necklace that would stop vampires from trying to mesmerize her. The witch had also made some herbal tea to reduce her anxiety; Morgan was amazed when it actually helped.

The first time she went to dinner at Lucky and Ben's she was terrified, she tried to decline but Sylvia had become extremely insistent, the whole family had been there, and they had welcomed her. She had met them several times since and they were lovely genuine people, even Nicky's dad who made Ben look small and Nicky tiny was kind to her. Everyone was very touchy feely which for Morgan had taken some getting used to.

  For Nicky worki
ng every day was pretty exhausting; being up in the morning and going to bed at a reasonable hour was a shock to his system. He wasn't stupid, he knew Ben was giving him more work but as long as Morgan was safe he could deal.

He was starting to understand why Ben liked the challenges of the business, it was its own rush, and when you are too busy to take stock of your life you don't seem to notice what you are missing. Nicky had to admit he kind of liked it, so much so that when Seb and Julian rang him to party with them, he turned them down without worrying about it. But when they knocked on his door with beers, he invited them in and promptly fell asleep before finishing the first beer. He had promised them that he would go out tonight, although only if they stayed at Silver's. That way he could drink and also make sure Pixie was not in trouble.

After work he let his wolf run free, both he and the wolf were frustrated, although the running eased a tiny bit of the pent up energy. The man had been sporting an extremely painful erection every time he was with Morgan. He had tried to avoid her, but when he was apart from her, his wolf was agitated and prowling around, he couldn't win.

As he climbed into the shower, he couldn't help but think of her small pert breasts, wondering what color her nipples would be? He reached down to wrap his hand around his penis while he imagined kissing her, slipping his tongue into her mouth as he tasted her, before moving his lips down to her ear, nipping at the bottom of it making her jump, before he moved down to her neck.

Closing his eyes he saw himself squeezing and rolling her nipples in his fingers and then he groaned. That was as far as he had made it, it had been the same thing every day for nearly two weeks. As he gripped his hard swollen penis tighter pumping it up and down, he increased the rhythm, even though he wanted to slow it down to prolong the fantasy, but as he had for the last few nights he jerked again and came in long and hard jets.

As Nicky leaned against the shower door, he took a breath. He needed to get laid tonight, if he didn't he would have to chase the little Pixie just so he could get her out of his system, to hell with everyone else, to hell with honor, he had to rid himself of these feelings once and for all.

  Chapter 7

As Seb returned with three more drinks Nicky downed his in one, he needed more alcohol, the club was heaving and there were so many hot women around him, yet when he looked at them, they weren't her. More alcohol would take care of that.

Seb was chatting with a couple of blondes, one had pretty hair. Nicky went over to talk to her, within ten minutes she was propositioning him. He wanted to get laid, she wanted to lay him so where was the harm. She pinned him against the wall and started to kiss him, he tried to kiss her back, he honestly did try but it just didn't feel right. For the first time in what felt like forever, his erection was gone. He even tried to picture Morgan, but that had resulted in one hell of a growl from his wolf who for some reason acted as if he had betrayed her.

He couldn't live like this, after apologizing to whatever her name was, hell he couldn't even remember, he headed out of the main area to the hallway leading to Morgan. He keyed in the code that would take him to her corridor, he took a deep breath savoring the silence, Ben had paid to have a sound proof door, it had been worth the money. Before he could talk some sense into himself, he knocked on the door.

  "Hello."

"Hey little Pixie it's me." This time it was his heart beating hard and fast, the alcohol spurring him into action. As he heard Morgan unlocking the numerous locks, Nicky thought it would probably be easier to break into a bank than Morgan's apartment.

"I don't know why I ask who it is; your mom and Lucky always call before they come round. You're the only one who just turns up."

She looked so cute, wearing a pair of boy shorts and a tank top, the sheep pictured on them made him smile.

"Come dance with me." The words slipped out, gone was the smooth operator. Here he was, a man stood in front of a woman, terrified that she would turn him away. He just didn’t understand his feelings; he couldn't put them into words.

She looked at him with surprise before answering. "No."

"Why not?" This was why he had come, he wasn’t leaving without her, her refusal wasn’t serious, and his wolf could smell her confusion and arousal.

"Because it's late, I am not dressed and, and I can't dance." The anxiety was back in her voice, he didn’t see it often only when they were around others.

"It's ten thirty, you can dress in five minutes and I can teach you to dance." He leaned down to smell her hair, strawberries and cream.

  "No."

"Now, now little Pixie, I am not going to take no for an answer. The way I see it, you have two choices, come dance with me or I come in and ravish you. Now I am all for the ravishing, but I will let you choose."

As she looked at him, she saw the look on his face; she saw he was actually serious.

"Take that look off your face mister, I am not scared of you anymore."

"Sorry Pixie, but right now if you knew what I was thinking, you would be scared. Although I promise you this, if I could get past the mild flirting stage without giving you a coronary, you wouldn't be scared for long."

As he watched the slight widening of her eyes, he realized her innocence and her kindness was one hell of a turn on. "Come on little Pixie make your decision."

"Fine I will come, but only for a few minutes." She actually stomped her foot at him before turning to leave. "You stay there, don't think I don't know that you have been drinking, don't make me lock you out."

"I won't move a muscle I promise, unless you don't move that cute little butt pronto."

As Nicky stood at the door willing himself not to follow her, he had to question why the hell he was out here, when she was in there in that bedroom stripping off those boy shorts and tank, sliding her hands up her body. Nicky knew he had to stop thinking erotic thoughts; he was going to injure himself, had anyone ever died from a permanent erection. His acute agony worsened when she came out of the bedroom indecision spread over her face.

"Nicky, I am not really sure what to wear?" she was chewing her lip.

"What do you want to wear?" He watched her shrug her shoulders indecision etched across her face, before she stood straight and replaced it with a determined look.

"Stop being an ass Nicky come and help me. What are other women out there wearing?"

"Not a whole lot, some have shorts on, others dresses, some jeans with a dressy top. What would you normally wear to a club?" Nicky was trying not to picture her in a pair of tight little shorts, though the bed shorts were making it somewhat hard.

She shrugged. "I have never been to a club before."

"Shit Pixie you really are naïve, what would you wear to a bar?"

Again she shrugged. "Damn it Pixie, where are you from, Alaska?"

He saw her close the shutters to her past. "Pixie it doesn't matter what you wear but if you don't hurry, I will take you like that."

"You wouldn't dare." Yet in that second, she knew that he might make good on his word. Morgan ran back to the bedroom, pulling things out of her closet, until she found a pair of jeans that looked nice, the rips across the butt area were not quite her but she decided to live dangerously. After deciding to place it with a black short sleeved top with flecks of glitter through it, she nearly took it off the satin material made it light weight and felt so girly. Slipping it off only to add a black bra, she looked in the mirror pleased with the effect. She added a pair of black heels that she had fallen in love with, finally which she ran a brush through her hair, and went to meet Nicky.

"Is this good enough, will I fit in?" From the expression on his face she thought it must be acceptable, she went to walk past him until he stopped her with his hand.

"Firstly, I think we need to set some rules." Nicky didn't plan on setting rules, until he saw that she looked gorgeous and sexy, he had no intention of letting some slime ball cozy up to her, no damn way.

"Rule one you only dance with me, rule two y
ou only get drinks from me, rule three you don't talk to other men, rule four I will bring you home no one else will."

Man he was funny, Morgan hadn't intended to let anyone ever tell her what to do again, but from Nicky it didn't seem bossy, just kind of sweet.

"One I can't dance so won't dance with anyone, two and don't laugh, I have never had an alcoholic drink so wouldn't know what to drink, three I only manage the panic attacks when your close so don't worry about me talking to other men, four considering how close I live getting home shouldn't be a problem. Now can we go before I change my mind and get back into my pj's?" Closing his eyes Nicky saw her again in those shorts.

As she moved him out of the way, Morgan could feel that nervous anxiety creeping up on her. She knew nothing of this lifestyle; her upbringing had told her that these clubs contained adults out of their heads on drugs and alcohol, having orgies in full view of everyone. But now that she knew Ben, she couldn't imagine him or Lucky letting orgies go on under their noses. Nicky however, now he might.
