"Not anymore Cane although for a long time I did. If you could be anything, what would it be?" Morgan watched him close his eyes; he was a strong man who had been weakened over the years.
"When I was a kid I wanted to be a fire fighter but now, I would like to work with kids."
Morgan looked at him in surprise. "With kids, really?"
"Yes I would like to work with kids who have been traumatized. I failed you Princess, no don't say anything, I know I did and I want to help other kids. I don't really know where to start, if I live through this, that is what I want to do."
Thinking about him and his gentle nature, Morgan saw that Cane would be amazing with kids. She kissed his cheek.
"I don't want you to feel guilty Cane; I know what you tried to do for me. I think you would be great working with kids and I will help you in any way that I can. I love you, you know that don't you?"
"I do princess, though it's always good to hear that. I won't betray you or the people you care for here."
"What do you remember about mom, Cane?"
Morgan had never had the nerve to ask anyone about her mom, she had never seen a picture of her and no-one talked about her. Her father had never remarried.
"We look like her, dad was real mean to her though not as mean as he was to you. I remember seeing her cry a lot when dad wasn't around. Dad met her working in one of the local shops, but it didn't take long to break her down. There was something special in her, a light that shone a little too bright for the Order." Cane had paused as though he was bringing her memory to the forefront of his mind, his eyes watered and for a moment she felt bad for bringing the past back to him. He smiled as he continued.
"She always used to smile but he took all of that away, I see that same light in you. It was strange; dad and the others worried when mom ran, within two days of her leaving we packed and left, everyone went. They spent the first twenty four hours looking for her and when they couldn't find her, we left just like that. I don't remember where we used to live; they drove for hours putting a distance between the old place and the new before we settled again. It was as if they were scared when they couldn't find her."
"Do you think she missed us?" Morgan knew she sounded wistful; she had always wanted a mother. Being here had helped her to understand dynamics in families and a mother's role so she now recognized what she had lost out on.
"I honestly don't know Princess." When Cane fell asleep, Morgan was happy to watch over him.
Chapter 1 7
Nicky, Ben and Mitch were yet again sat in the kitchen but this time they were joined by Denissa who was the head of the white witches in New York. Vlad who controlled the vampires joined them, as did Bastian. After going through the events leading them to this point, Nicky was now ready to ask for their help. He knew that in most cities there was hostility between the groups not though in New York, one of the busiest and largest cities across the world, here the heads all worked together.
Vlad was the first to respond. "I have no problem providing protection to those of your pack wishing to join us while this problem is taken care of. However will you allow some of my more trusted men to come and join you during the dark hours, providing some relief to your warrior guards?"
Vlad and Ben had been friends for years, as head of the vampires Vlad had a difficult task; vampires were predators and Vlad needed to make sure the vampires stayed within the boundaries of the law, therefore he needed to make any punishments both public and harsh. But Nicky knew that if Vlad was planning to send some vampire's here, it would be ones who were totally trustworthy.
"We would be honored by your support. Thank you Vlad." Though Ben answered Nicky was also thankful, the vampires were strong adversaries and stronger allies.
Denissa seemed troubled. "Tell me a little more about this group Nicky, I have heard of them but can't recall where."
"You would be better meeting Morgan or Cane."
"Cane? Who is he and where is he?" Nicky had met Denissa several times and she always carried an air of goodness, always calm and relaxed yet today she seemed unusually agitated as she looked around her.
"He's Morgan's brother, who is currently in our hospital wing."
Denissa nodded at the information before jumping up and gathering her bag. "I need to leave Ben, but you know any of your pack is more than welcome to join us. I will call you later with the address where they can go, I will also come by at first light with some other witches, so that we can add some wards." With that Denissa left leaving a concerned Ben and Vlad watching after her.
"How odd, Denissa seemed preoccupied which is very unlike her."
Nicky watched Ben agree before they finished making the arrangements, Nicky made his apologies and left he had plans to implement and less than four hours to get everything ready.
He called his mom to see how things were going her end before going home to prepare.
Chapter 1 8 -
Morgan had sat with Cane for hours; when he had slept she had chatted with Emma who was the resident doctor and then May. When he woke she and Cane had played cards and watched some TV, but now she wanted to go home, and by home she realized that she meant Nicky. She had missed him so much and it had only been an afternoon. Morgan was thinking about walking back after waiting an hour for Connor to come and meet her.
Finally Connor arrived to meet her on a quad bike, she had never been on a quad before, by the end of the trip though she had to say it was exhilarating, so much so that she didn't initially notice that they were outside Ben and Lucky's.
"Connor is Nicky here?" Disappointed Morgan had hoped to spend some time alone with Nicky.
"No."
"Then why are we here, I want to go home."
Smiling Connor pointed to the house. "Sorry you need to take that up with them, I just follow orders." Morgan looked up to see Sylvia, Yvonne and Lucky waiting for her at the door.
"What's going on, where's Nicky, has something happened?"
Morgan could feel the panic set in, she tried to talk telepathically to him but he wasn't answering.
"Breathe Morgan, Nicky is fine he is a little tied up, he wanted us to spend some time with you while he prepares a little surprise." Sylvia was tremendously excited for some reason.
"Follow me sweetheart."
Yvonne had all her hair dressing things out in the kitchen, Beth was also there waiting. "We have a nice hot bath ready for you; I have even put some of my luxury bath salts in it. We will be waiting here when you are finished."
"What on earth is going on?" Morgan was watching them look extremely excited while giving each other conspiring looks.
Sylvia gave a happy little clap. "Ooo Nicky has a surprise for you; we just have to make sure you are pampered and ready for when he is finished, don't worry but don't ask any questions we are sworn to secrecy."
As Morgan soaked into the bubbles she had to admit these bath salts smelled like a piece of heaven, she felt calm and relaxed even though she could not work out what Nicky was up to. She had managed to communicate telepathically with him, although he refused to tell her anything.
"Little Pixie all is well, see you soon." That was the extent of their conversation.
She was startled by the banging on the door, Lucky was telling her to get out. As she wrapped the towel around her body, she opened the door to find Yvonne waiting.
"Right what do you want to do with your hair?" Looking in the mirror, Morgan made a decision based on her no longer needing to hide.
"I know exactly what I want although I don’t know if you can do it?"
***********
Two hours later Morgan felt truly pampered, she was stood in front of the mirror with the others behind her, she looked out of this world. She could literally go anywhere in this outfit, well not quite anywhere but she could go somewhere expensive and glamorous. She saw Ban and Leyland come in the front door and saw when both stop dead when at her appearance.
"Wow, you look stunning Morgan." L
eyland came over to kiss her on the head; Ben looked at Lucky who was trying to hide her excitement.
"I have to say Morgan you look lovely, Nicky is a lucky man." He looked again at Lucky who was still smiling when she came over and kissed him.
"Don't worry baby, I think she looks stunning too. You're back sooner than I expected."
"Apparently my brother needs someone to escort Morgan home, and I don't think a quad will be acceptable tonight."
Morgan had no idea why but she was suddenly terribly nervous, her heart was accelerating with the feeling that tonight was going to have life changing consequences. Sylvia had insisted on taking photos before she left resulting in a slight delay and now it was just her and Ben. As they arrived near the house he stopped the car.
"Ben can I just say thank you for everything. I need to say something, so could you hear me out before you answer." Ben nodded.
"I have never felt such love and acceptance as I have since meeting you all. I don't want anything to happen to anyone here, I don't think I could bear it so if you want me to leave I would completely understand, just please take care of Nicky."
She couldn’t read his facial expression; he was gazing at her strangely. "I heard you out, now you hear me. You became part of our family the day Lucky found you, it doesn't matter whether you and Nicky mate or not, you will have the pack as your family as long as you want us. If you run, it will just piss Nicky off when he has to go look for you. You have changed my brother for the better and for that alone you will always have my gratitude, so that's the end of ideas involving you leaving. Now I need to blindfold you, I can hear your heart beat Morgan you never have to fear me, tonight however Nicky has ordered me to do this."
She let him blindfold her before he started driving again; she figured they were there when the car stopped. Ben gently guided her out of the car.
"I am going to remove the blindfold, but you are not to turn around until I have left." Morgan nodded.
"Breathe Morgan, this is a good surprise." And then Ben left her standing in the lush green grass outside of Nicky's house, blindfolded with the dark of the night surrounding her.
Chapter 1 9 -
Nicky stood in the window watching Ben pull up, looking at Morgan as she left the car, now waiting he didn't think he was able to breathe properly so taken he was with her. Even though she hadn't turned around yet what he had seen was spectacular, her hair was blonde and in ringlets settling just past her shoulders, with white flowers threaded into a small plait around her head. Her long sky blue gown cascaded down her beautiful body to pool at her feet, she looked like a Goddesses. She was his Goddess, for he planned to make her his, whether or not she was his wolf mate she was his soul mate.
Morgan took deep breaths, when Ben left she lifted the blindfold while her breath caught in her throat as she took in the sight that greeted her. The whole porch was lit up by tiny candles, making the house stand out against the darkness of the night like a lighthouse at sea. Morgan saw three of the wild wolves sat next to the porch watching, she no longer feared them knowing that they were that sat waiting to greet her. As she walked towards the house she lifted her dress, they had come to meet her and as they fell into step around her, she whispered words of greeting to them.
As she climbed the steps she saw they were covered in white petals, a bouquet of white roses sat on the chair, the same chair she had sat on last night while watching Nicky run as his wolf with the wild wolves. On the other chair she found a large box of chocolates, and a bottle of champagne with a white ribbon around its neck, then the door opened and there stood her wolf.
In the open doorway Morgan saw her man, for make no mistake he was her man and she planned to do whatever it took to keep him. Her heart rate increased just looking at him, he was always gorgeous but tonight he was just delicious, with his sandy blonde hair falling around his eyes, he was wearing a tuxedo that made him look so dashing, and when he smiled he was sex on legs.
"Wow, little Pixie you look like an angel. Your hair was already beautiful and yet tonight I am speechless, I feel like heaven dropped you on my door step just for me." Nicky meant every word of it.
"I don't know about heaven, but I am all yours and always will be. This is lovely Nicky; you have really surprised me, I had no idea but why?" Nicky stepped up to her and bent to give her a slow, wonderful and sensual kiss that literally made her toes curl.
"It's like this Pixie. You are mine, I want you so much and I never intend to let you go, but I also know that you have never experienced the fun and romance in life. So tonight my Pixie, I intend to woo you with flowers, chocolate, fine food and champagne. Think of tonight as your first date, your second date and lots of other dates, in one night I have to make sure you get everything you would in a lifetime of dates."
Momentarily speechless Morgan could feel her eyes well up. "That is so sweet Nicky but you didn’t have to, I am already yours."
"That's what I want to hear Pixie, but I want you to know how much I love you."
As he led her inside the house, she saw the burning fire and the large white sheepskin rug on the floor, a bucket of ice sat next to the rug, candles casting shadows on the walls and ceiling, the ambience was so romantic, she could smell the food cooking, something delicious and unlikely to be Nicky's creation which extended to burgers and burgers! "Mmm what's cooking?"
She took the glass of champagne from Nicky as she lifted it to her lips; savoring the sweet tangy taste as the bubbles popped in her mouth making her giggle.
"Well tonight madam I will be serving roasted duck on a bed of vegetables, with creamed potatoes and cauliflower. For dessert we have strawberries and ice cream, do you know why I have picked that desert?"
She shook her head as she gazed into those big blue eyes. "Well from the first time I met you, you smelled like strawberries and ice cream and I can't think of either of them anymore without thinking of you."
"You really did all of this for me?" Her chest hurt, she could feel her heart literally swelling from the barrage of feelings. This man was everything to her; he had become her life and still she could not believe that he felt the same way.
"Before you consider me a saint, I didn't do the cooking mom did, I just have to heat it up." Nicky was blushing which was so endearing. Standing on tiptoes she kissed him.
"This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me."
Nicky led her to the table which was set with a candle in the middle, the main lights were low and as she sat down she heard the background music and smiled, it was the rapper she had become fond of, the lyrics reached the depths of her soul as the words bared the artists soul, and even though it didn't actually fit with the ambiance of the night Nicky understood how the emotions in the words soothed Morgan's own hurt.
Nicky served them both dinner, they sat talking and were so relaxed and comfortable that they didn't notice the hours passing, they had been talking and laughing for what felt like minutes but had actually moved into hours. Nicky had well and truly wined and dined her, after dinner he had a movie organised even supplying popcorn and as Nicky explained to her, movies and popcorn were a must on at least one date.
As Nicky went to get dessert, Morgan slipped off her heels before taking a couple of the large pillows off the sofa and placing them on the floor. Lying against one she rested her eyes and wallowed in the gluttonous feelings. Embracing the heat from the fire, Morgan thought about how much this man had come to mean to her and the feelings she had for him, the intensity of them should have scared her but they no longer did. He was her heart and soul and she wanted to be his.
Coming through to the lounge, Nicky stood at the doorway watching Morgan as she lay back against the pillow with the fire burning behind her, the glow and the crackle of the wood gave the scene an ethereal presence. Now he understood why Ben did everything he could to make Lucky happy, he wanted Morgan to look this happy and contact every damn day of their lives.
"I can smell strawberries Nic
ky; I am just not sure why they are still all the way over there?"
"Well I was just thinking about how far I would get if I ran away with them."
"For strawberries I would hunt you down like a wolf." As Nicky slid down next to her, he spooned some into her mouth.
"Mmm divine." She sat up and spooned some aiming it at his mouth, but instead of feeding Nicky she pulled it away at the last minute and went to put it into her mouth, she almost managed it but ended up with ice cream dripping down her chin and then it was gone as Nicky licked it off. "Mmm now this is even better."
Nicky followed it with a kiss, and as she opened her mouth to him and slid her hands up over his chest, he moved his hands to the straps of her dress sliding them down before reaching round for the zip at the back. And then he stopped and started pulling back.
