Languish for you (My soulmate) Page 21

by Daniel, Serafina

  6. There are the hunters, who didn't like all than soulmates' thing.

And, the most importance: I could remember my previous life and that was the weirdest thing for everyone.

I sighed. I knew that maybe I was making things harder than I should, because I was used to see lies in my every step. This new life wasn't an exception; I wanted to understand everything, see what was going in the backstage.

A knock on the door pulled me out from my own thoughts. I looked at the door. Avery came inside, holding a black dress which was short, sexy...definitely I would have never put that thing on my body...at least in my previous life. But I would have never gone to this kind of events in which I was about to go today.

“I think it will be that one,” Avery said with a huge devilish smile on her face. I rolled my eyes. Avery was really pushing me to do things, which I would have never done in my previous life: make-up, to put short and sexy clothes, to wear high heel, to have a manicure and so on. All those things for me seemed pointless and only the waste of my precious time. I believed that every person was beautiful and he didn't need this kind of things.

Avery understood how my brain worked and decided to reprogram it. A new life. A new personality. But I really doubted if her created style could actually grow on me. I was different from those empty people and that really couldn't be changed during one night.

“Yea, if I am trying to find a rich person and make him want me,” I snapped and rolled my eyes.

Avery frowned, but only for one second.

She came closer to me and dropped that dress straight on my head. I jumped irritated and threw that thing from my head. It landed on Snow, which didn't hurry to stand up and step away from the dress.

“You are going there with this dress,” Avery pointed with her finger to my bed. I didn't even glance to look at that dress. “End of story,” she said in a firm tone. “So, please, put that dress on your body that I could put some make-up and create a fabulous hairstyle,” a small smile appeared on her face.

I folded my arms over my chest, not hiding how all this thing annoyed me.

“Oh, why such a sad face?” she put her finger gently on my nose, like I would be a small kid, who needed to be cheered up. But I had to say, it really did some effect. I felt how my lips twitched up.

“I will look like a slut,” I confessed as I took up the dress carefully with my fingers. Snow lifted her head lazily and opened her mouth widely, giving me and Avery a sign that our conversation was the most boring conversation ever.

“But sexy and wealthy slut,” she smirked and I shot a dirty look at her. I could only imagine what kind of children she would have. “Now, put it on,” she hurried me before she walked out from the room. “You will look gorgeous,” she added and I was left with Snow alone in the room.

I looked at the dress. Okay, it was nice, but really short. Not even reached knees. In my vocabulary, this dress was really short.

But something in my mind told me not to push my luck. One way or another, Avery would make sure that this dress would be on my body. So, I put it on and took some time in front of the mirror, seeing how interesting I looked in outfit which I would have never put on my body. Avery was right, I looked sexy.

Avery came back into my room without even knocking. She seemed astonished seeing me in the dress she had given me. That only let me understand that in the reality I looked better with that dress than in her imagination.

“I soon will be a grandmother,” she said, putting her hands together next her beating heart.

My smile dropped. Was it the night she actually think I will make love with my cousin? Really?

“Now we need a fantastic make-up and a hairstyle,” Avery either didn't notice my face expression or decided to pretend that she didn't see it, because her eyes remained shining and that big smile didn't decrease even a bit.

I had to admit, Avery knew what she was doing. After an hour of patient sitting on the chair in front of the mirror, I was amazed by the result. I couldn't believe that it was me, my eyes were in black circles, highlighting my eyes color. My lips were full and in nice creamy color. And my face...hair...I looked like a model from a cover.

“From your face I see you like it,” Avery said, putting her little magic things back into a huge suitcase.

“Like it? I love it,” I touched my curly lock of hair, then let my fingers run gently on my cheek as I stare at my reflection in that mirror. I had to repeat over and over again in my mind that she was actually I.

“So, you can only imagine what Tobias's reaction will be,” a cunning smile now was on her face.

But I was thinking not about Tobias's reaction, but about Christopher's. I didn't know how my thoughts drifted to him and not to my so called soulmate. But my protector was the first one in my head, making me feel guilty.

I knew who Christopher was and I should forget him. He was nothing in my life and I was in his.

  “Ready?” Avery asked excited.

I nodded slowly, my eyes still at the girl, who wasn't me, although it was me.

Christopher was waiting for us in the corridor, anxious to leave. He was wearing one of his costumes. He seemed so finely, so gorgeous, so ready to have every girl in this world.

Grip yourself, I ordered myself mentally.

His eyes turned lazily at me. He seemed astonished seeing me in the black dress, with make-up and so on. But before I could even detect what he was feeling, his face turned marble, eyes glassy.

“Ready?” he asked me the same question as Avery had, but instead of his voice being friendly, it was icy cold.

I glanced at Avery, asking her with my eyes if something was wrong, but she didn't look at me. She walked quickly around me and kicked Christopher at his leg.

  “Manners, protector,” she barked.

He rolled his eyes and strode forward, stealing a chance for us to follow him. Soon the front door slammed.

“Caveman,” she said under her nose. She turned and waved her had for me to follow her. “We need to go.”

I nodded, but my mood was gone. It was really difficult for me to understand those two. Avery and Christopher were unstable, unpredictable. One minute they were friendly and all, another – people, who would bite you as hard as they can. That really confused me, although I had an idea, why they were acting like this; they just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't attach to them too much even if I was a rare, really rare case.

I met Tobias next to the entrance. He was wearing one of Christopher's costumes. He looked nice, but still not as gorgeous as Christopher himself. Tobias was just an average boy in the nice clothes, when Christopher had something more, something what could separate him from the crowd.

I saw in my eye corner how Christopher scowled seeing Tobias widely smiling at my direction. I didn't even felt how my smug smile born on my own face.

“Is this really my Vanessa?” he whispered, taking me into his embrace. Then, his warm lips touched mine, wakening butterflies in my stomach.

“Avery's job,” I said, biting my lip.

He glanced at her. Avery lifted her shoulders guiltily and then walked with Christopher inside, leaving me with my soulmate alone.

“I will buy her a candy box,” he kissed me again before we walked to the building, where many wealthy, famous and beautiful people were gathering to show how generous they were.

Christopher and Avery didn't have any idea, what they might see there. They only thought that they got a simple invitation because of the money sum in the bank. But I knew the truth and I should be cautious.

The room, in which everyone was, was enormous and luxurious. Many waitress were walking around, offering drinks to the guests, who scanned the area in the bored looks.

It didn't took me long to notice Eduard in his costume, walking around the guests in that predator's pace. He was studying every person carefully, like he was trying to see something in them or maybe through them. I wasn't sure which of my guesses was more corre
ctly.

His eyes soon saw me, but he didn't hurry to make his way to me. Yes, he stopped for some seconds and spent them only observing me. Then, he turned his back and started talking with someone.

“What's wrong?” I heard concern in Tobias's voice. My eyes look at him, but I didn't actually see him. My thoughts were in the other world.

“Nothing,” I replied and shook my head a bit. “It's just bizarre to be here,” that was truth. I liked to write about my characters in these kind of events, but I didn't actually thought of myself being in one.

“Yea,” he agreed. “It is really something.”

Tobias didn't seem relaxed in this room. I wasn't too, and that really wasn't because of knowing that not far away from me was Eduard, the bodiless, but because everyone's eyes somehow found their way to steal a glance at us. I had never liked to be in the centre of attention.

One hour flew quickly when I pretended not to notice anyone's eyes on me, and just enjoy being with Tobias, listening about his family. I always tried to avoid asking him about my family, but now, I just decided not to change our conversation. Soon I found out that my brother married and had two girls. His wife was really awesome. My parents... well, he told me that losing me was a shock to them both, but somehow they managed to survive.

I smiled in my mind. I was happy that they managed to live one. What people were always right about, was the fact that a death person wouldn't like for his family to grieve too long for their lost.

“It's hot here,” Tobias said suddenly. “Would you like something to drink?”

  I nodded.

“It would be lovely,” I bit my bottom lip. He let my hand go and was about to leave, when I quickly added that I would like to drink only water. My choice of drinks froze him for a second. In his eyes I could see a surprise, but soon it was replaced by love.

  “Okay,” and he was gone.

I was left alone, but not for long. Christopher approached me with a girl on his side. It was the same girl, who I had seen twice in the distance.

I petrified, not knowing what to do. Did Christopher have an idea with whom he was? After all, I had told him about the woman and even I had described him how she looked like. For some reason I doubted that he could forget my words. After all, he was a protector. His job was to make sure I was safe that new souls, or I should say, new babies could see the sun, the three and blah blah blah.

“Hello,” the woman said. My eyes literary glued to her. I couldn't look anywhere else, only at her and how her arm was tangled with Christopher's.

“Who are you?” I asked, narrowing my eyes in a threatening way. I knew better than to show her that fear, not courage was running in my veins.

“She is aggressive,” the woman said in a casually tone and then looked at Christopher. I also looked at his cold face and those glassy eyes.

“This is my old friend Ashley,” he explained to me simply. “Ashley, meet Vanessa. Vanessa, meet Ashley.”

“Nice to finally meet you,” she grinned and extended her hand for me to shake, but I narrowed my eyes a bit and took a small step away from her. She got the hint and lowered quickly her hand, hiding her pique.

“If you say so,” I snapped, not hiding how annoyed I was.

For my surprise, she laughed. I was amusing her. That confused me a bit.

“You are so protective of your legal guardian's nephew,” she planted a quick kiss on Christopher's cheek. He didn't even struggle to stop her. He even smiled at her behavior, making me sad and angry. “Don't worry, I know Christopher very well. We studied at the same school for some time,” she told me.

I was confused. What kind of game was she playing? I knew that she wasn't an average human. After all, she was stalking me. So, she knew more than just a simple living being. And now I found out that she knew Christopher. They studied at the same school? What... And then I realized something; she didn't know me. At least not all the truth about me.

“The same school?” I asked, just checking my theory.

“Yes,” my protector confirmed. “At school.”

And that was all I needed to understand that they were lying. He didn't go to school. Liars.

But before I could say something more, Tobias came back with our drinks. He didn't look happy to find me in someone's company. To be honest, right now I wanted to be far away from those two.

I took my glass of water and took some slow sips, buying some time for myself to understand this situation better.

“We will go. Dances will start soon,” Ashley said. Christopher nodded reluctantly and walked with at her.

“Who was that?” Tobias asked me, snaking his free arm around me.

“Trouble,” I said without intending to use this word.

Tobias lifted his eyebrows up questionably, but I didn't intend to answer. I just took another sip and scanned the area. My protector and that woman didn't go far. They were standing in the centre of the room, where a few couples were slowly dancing according to a calm music. I could see how Ashley's arms found their way around his neck, while her lips were working to touch his. Jealousy was the first thing which hit me.

I turned my eyes away, but that didn't actually help me to calm myself, because now I saw Eduard, who intend to chat with me this time.

Tobias noticed a man coming closer to us. His body tensed a bit when he realized that we were his destination. I didn't get why his body reacted like this. Did his soul give him warnings about him? After all, Eduard was one of the bodiless, and how I understood, they were those who sign souls to their new bodies.

“It is nice to see you here, Vanessa,” he took my hand and kiss it, proving us all, who were observing him, that he wasn't a tramp from the street. “And this might be your soulmate,” he said with a grin on his face.

Tobias's body tensed even more after hearing the soulmate word.

“Who are you?” I asked, pretending that I didn't know him.

Eduard didn't seem surprise by my question. It even seemed that he was expecting something like this.

“Oh, my apologies. We have never been properly introduced. I am Eduard Fuchs. I knew your parents. It's so sad to know that they are not with us anymore.”

I forced a smile on my face and glanced at Tobias, who was staring at Eduard, like he was intending to jump on that guy and cut his neck widely for everyone to see red blood and meat.

“Oh,” I said. “It's nice to meet you. This is my boyfriend, Tobias,” it was really strange to say boyfriend instead of cousin. And what was even stranger, that Tobias pulled me closer to his body. I felt how his heart pounded in his chest like it wanted to escape from his body. He was really angry or really scared.

“It is an honor to meet you, young man,” Eduard said kindly.

All this situation seemed awkward for me. Why was Eduard here, taking with us? What did he want? But I wasn't about to stick long enough to find that out. I put my glass on the the tray when the waitress walked pass us. Then, I grabbed Tobias's hand and pull him after me.

“It was nice to meet you, but I think my aunt is waving for us to come to her,” I lied. I knew I was doing a bad thing, but all my senses told me to walked away from Eduard as quickly as possible.

“Of course. We wouldn't like to annoy Avery,” he nodded and moved away, giving us some space to walk forward. I didn't give a second thought for that. I walked away from Eduard, who was standing calmly and just watching me and Tobias.

Only when Eduard disappeared in that sea of people, I stopped and looked at Tobias, who still seemed intense, his eyes running around, searching for something.

“I don't like him,” he said without hiding anything. He was annoyed, alarmed and disgusted. I had to admit, I had the same feelings for Eduard, too.

“Me, too,” I said, taking a deep breath. “Would you like to dance?” I asked. I needed to do something, what could occupy my mind.

Tobias nodded, forcing a smile on his face. He needed also a distraction.

  We
danced with other couples in the middle of the room. I quite liked to be with Tobias, dance with him, but still, knowing who he was to me, nagged me better fear to get a bad score from an exam.

I put my head on his shoulder, turning out my brain and just enjoying the atmosphere, which would be magical if my eyes hadn't seen Christopher with that woman. Who was she for real? The hunter? The protector? The tutor? Or maybe really, an old friend of his?

Ashley noticed where my eyes were turned and grinned. Without missing a beat, she leaned closer to him and crashed her lips to his. For my surprise, he kissed her back, his arms snaked around her.

I closed my eyes and tried to remember myself that he wasn't mine to want and I wouldn't care with whom he wanted to be.

Tobias phone rang in his pocket. We stopped dancing. He pulled his phone out and looked at the screen. The name on it erased the smile from his face.

“I need to take this call,” he said quickly and walked away from me. Whatever was in another side, was important for Tobias. I nodded and he quickly was gone. But he didn't let me be alone for long. Tobias soon was back on my side, leaning closer to me, but not to tasting me lips.

“Do you trust me?” he asked in a whisper.

I looked at him with a question in my eyes. Why did he ask this?

  I nodded.

He kissed my forehead and grabbed my hand. Without saying anything, he pulled me quickly to walk after him. I tried to stop him and force to explain me, what was going on, but then a loud explosion echoed in the room. The lamps burst, people started shouting, running to the exist. The room soon was in the dark.

“Come!” Tobias yelled and pulled me to him. I noticed a flashlight in his hand, directed to the ground.

He was prepared, the thought hit me, but I was to shocked to do anything except be an obedient girl, although I knew that I should stop and find my protector in this mess.

But when my brain worked enough to be able to command my body, I tried to save my hand from Tobias's grip. But for my luck, he only tightened firmer his lock and started running quicker.

I glanced over my shoulder, hoping to see someone. I knew it was dark. Even if there was someone, who I knew, I couldn't recognize him.
