The Gentle Dragon and The Wild Vampire (BWWM): Part 1 (The Keepers Series) Page 17

by T. C. Clark

He had to think…he needed to plan. Mina’s death changed everything. He’d gotten a good look at the bitch. He shook his head as the pain threatened to come forth. He’d let his lust consume him with her, so much so that he allowed her to be close to danger.

His brothers would laugh at him, for letting such an outcome to pass. Their lives were built on control and strength and he’d let his woman be taken out by a vengeful witch. Oh, he knew exactly who she was upon closer inspection by the fourth doctor who’d been forced inside the room he was sure that this was the work of Pearl the blood witch Mina had told him about.

Mina had been his natural mate every warlock had one, no matter how deranged or how powerful there existed one for each of them and that bitch had taken his away. But he knew how to get it back; if he couldn’t have Mina…then he’d take Pearl.

A wholly evil look passed over his face making the doctor in front of him shake with terror. He’d teach that witch a lesson. Mina was gone now and he wasn’t one to dwell on the pain, hell he didn’t fully understand it.

But he knew that he would take Pearl as a replacement and she would spend the rest of what was left of her life on her knees begging for mercy. He felt himself grow hard at the thought. She wouldn’t have the same power over him as Mina. Like his mate, he’d been compelled to keep her happy; she’d been as depraved as him making them a perfect match.

He blanked his mind once again burying the feelings he had for Mina, looking back was a weak man’s prerogative. He wouldn’t have survived his later years if he had made it a practice for himself. He’d been born in hell and forged in the blood of the people who put them there.

“Clean this mess up and bury what is left of the body out back,” he said to the doctor who was staring at him with wide, fear-filled eyes as she bent to scrape up the remains, he let his eyes roam her body. He needed a distraction.

“Then fix yourself up and head to my bedroom,” he commanded turning on his heel a smirk forming on his face as her body stiffened and the scent of her fear filled the room, fanning his lust.

Everyone around him thought he’d grown soft when Mina had come into the picture and maybe he had. The witches thought they could challenge them and win; it was time for him to show them just how much of a mistake they’d made.

  Two months later…

Anise looked around the bar and smiled to herself. So much had changed in the space of a few days. She and Nate were now officially moved in.

It hadn’t been easy introducing her sexy vampire to the other witches her eyes followed him lovingly. His midnight-black hair gleamed in the dimly lit bar.

When he turned and caught her eyes her knees nearly buckled from the love she saw there. He was so different from any other man she’d ever been with. He’d even promised to take it slowly knowing that she feared tying her life to another person after her messy and emotionally distressing divorce.

They had spent every day together since they’d escaped that explosion. Alex sat on the other side of the bar with a sleepy-looking Opal on his lap.

She was reading a book as he chatted with Nate. There were witches scattered throughout the bar as well. Once they’d figured out Nate was the owner they had systematically taken it over convincing her loving partner to make their drinks half off.

Her eyes widened as she watched Taren and Ashley walk through the door. She smiled at the closeness forming between the two of them.

They had all argued for Taren at the council meeting but she knew Nadia’s recounting of all of the events had saved her life. She also knew the queens were distracted each of them on the run from their mates. They had only been at the meeting for an hour when they’d started to get nervous. Anise had found their behavior disturbing; she’d never seen the queen’s truly stressed.

Taren had been exiled from the coven and her memory was stripped of her time there. She had willingly submitted to the punishment even as Anise had fought it. She knew she would lose her best friend that day.

“Can I get two club sodas?” Taren said talking freely with Ashley.

Ashley grimaced as she caught the sadness in Anise’s eyes and she asked her older sister to get them a table.

“I’m sorry,” she said. She knew how much Anise and Taren had meant to each other and she could see how much it hurt that her sister couldn’t remember her.

“It’s okay…is she happy?” Anise asked as she made their two club sodas dropping a handful of cherries in one of them knowing that’s how Taren preferred it.

“I think she is as happy as Taren can be when they took her memory I think it softened her…I think her memories was a source of real pain for her or at least that what Pearl thinks.” Taren had been taken in by the sanctuary and now worked with the coven openly.

“Just be careful…the both of you and if you are ever in any trouble at all call me.”

“But I thought your coven said that all communication between Taren was banned,” Ashley asked.

“Taren is a sister to me and even if she can’t remember that I do. If she calls me I will come regardless of the consequences.”

“Thank you,” Ashley whispered awed by the love she saw on Anise’s face.

Anise watched as she walked back with the drinks in hand and Taren laughed as she took the cherry-filled one sending thumbs up in her direction.

Nate wrapped his massive arms around his little mate squeezing her tightly against his chest. He knew how hard it was for her to pretend for Taren.

She turned around and kissed him full on the lips and whispered, “Is that a gun in your pocket or are you happy to see me?”

He smiled down at her with love shining in his eyes. He pulled her into his arms ignoring the catcalls he was getting from some of the younger witches in the bar. He’d gotten used to them teasing him constantly for always grabbing Anise. He kissed her again, holding her close.

“I’m always happy to see you, as you have seen for the past two months,” he whispered. He watched a deep blush spread up her neck and to her cheeks and laughed. The rich masculine sound drew the stares of approval from the other supernaturals in the room.

“What in the world?” he said as a commotion at the front of the room caught his eye.

A massive man with light brown and black dreadlocks walked in. The crowd moved away from him uneasy in his presence. That’s when Nate caught the tattoos, he was an Atlatian werewolf an old one at that if his markings were real.

Nate didn’t hesitate jumping over the bar and tracing to him. He wouldn’t allow any wolf near his woman.

The man was even bigger than him. He stood with his feet braced apart; his five o’clock shadow gave him the appearance of a pirate. His light skin glistened from the light rain that had started outside.

Nate sensed Alex standing right behind him and he knew he felt the threat as well.

“I need to speak to the Anise and Opal Amant,” his voice boomed.

His dark eyes traveled the room until he caught sight of two beautiful women who were clearly Lorelei’s sisters. He stepped forward and stopped as a dark-haired vampire and a flame-haired dragon appeared in front of him.

He didn’t have time for this, he thought dropping his bag. He would allow nothing to get in his way. He had one shot at this and he wouldn’t lose her now.

“What do you want?” The sister behind the bar asked.

“It’s about your sister,” he said

“What about our sister?” the other one answered jumping down from the table with anger in her eyes.

“Your sister, Lorelei….is dead,” the words were forced out as if he couldn’t quite believe it himself. The horror on his face said he spoke the truth and at that moment the earth stopped spinning, the world stopped working, and everything ceased to make sense.
