She hugged him tightly. “I can’t believe it’s over, and I’m finally free of him.”
“I love that this news is the first thing to ever happen to us in this house. That’s a sign, don’t you think?”
“The cell service was the sign.”
Wade laughed and put her down, but kept his arms around her. “What do you say, Mrs. Abbott? Should we buy this place and make it our home?”
“We should, Mr. Abbott. We absolutely should.”
Epilogue
Lincoln slid into the booth across from Elmer, who greeted him with a huge grin.
“What a week, my friend!” Elmer said.
“I know! I can’t keep up with everything happening in my family these days. Wade got married, and they’re buying a farm. Hunter and Megan are expecting. Ella and Gavin are expecting, although we’re not supposed to know that yet—and planning to get married very soon. Lucas and Landon are fighting over a woman, and Hannah adopted a baby moose. Did I forget anything?”
“Nope. That about sums it up.”
“Where do we begin with all this?”
“Let’s start with Wade. The news about Mia’s ex taking the plea deal was the banner headline, if you ask me.”
“Agreed. Thank God that’s resolved and they can put it behind them.”
“I read the coverage in today’s paper, and now that Brody has pleaded guilty, the details are being released. Mia was instrumental in bringing down Brody’s operation. Without her, the prosecutor said, they might not have gotten him as soon as they did. Not to mention, he handed them three guys the DEA has been after for years.”
“My new daughter-in-law is an impressive young woman, that’s for sure.”
“That girl has been through a lot in her life. If anyone deserves happiness with a guy like our Wade, it’s her.”
“Couldn’t agree more. Wade took next week off, and they’re heading to Florida for some fun in the sun.”
“Good for them. They have a lot to celebrate. Now what’s up with Hannah and the moose?”
“Apparently, she conspired with Dude to lure the little one away from Fred. They built a pen for him, and she’s feeding him right from the bottle. Dude is guiding her, and Nolan wants the two of them locked up in a loony bin. But you know Hannah when she sets her mind to something.”
“Indeed. Someone ought to tell poor Nolan that the ship has already sailed.”
“What’s going to happen when Fred finds out where his little friend is being kept?”
“That’s anyone’s guess.”
“Speaking of wild animals, what’s this about Lucas and Landon fighting over a woman?”
“You heard me right. They’re both interested in Amanda, and neither will step aside for the other. I’ve never seen them so at odds. And poor Amanda doesn’t know what to make of all the attention.”
“Did I hear she extended her time here in Butler?”
Linc nodded. “Initially, it was because Wade had to go to Boston and the employee training was postponed. But now I think her extended stay in Butler has more to do with the twins than it does with work.”
“Very interesting,” Elmer said, stroking his chin.
“For the record, if she ends up with either of them, it goes in my column. That product line was my idea. She wouldn’t be here otherwise.”
Elmer rolled his eyes. “You’re grasping at straws, but I’ll let you have this one since you’re so far behind anyway.”
“No matter who gets the win, we need to keep an eye on those two. Neither of them has ever been serious about a woman before, and isn’t it just our luck that they set their sights on the same one? Nothing good can come of that.”
“Agreed. We’ll keep an eye on them—and on her. If the two of them are intent on her, she’ll need all the help she can get.”
