“I love you,” Eli whispered as he peeled off his clothes.

“I love you too,” I said without hesitation.

Once I was naked and free of all silver jewelry, I called on my wolf. She stood in the shadows of my mind, eagerly waiting to be set free. This moment was for her, too. She knew what was to come next, and she was as excited as I was to be united with her wolf.

When our pack had shifted, Eli and I were nudged close together by the alpha. I knew what I was supposed to do, I’d seen it before. Facing Eli, I touched his nose with my own. His warm breath fanned my face seconds before he nuzzled his way to the side of my neck. I closed my eyes as I curled my lips back, revealing my sharp teeth. The alpha howled, giving the signal and both of us bit down on one another. My mouth filled with the coppery taste of Eli’s blood, and then I released my hold on him. It was a little nibble, not a gouging bite, but we both knew we were supposed to break skin for it to hold.

As soon as I pulled back, Eli did the same. The pack released a howl of excitement; Eli and I were now bonded by blood, bite, and soul.

Our alpha broke into a run, heading for the woods, and the rest of the pack followed him. Eli and I hung back, enjoying our moment as we nuzzled one another before we ran to catch up with the others.

Wind whipped through my fur. It stung my eyes as I pushed my legs faster while running beside Eli. Never had I felt so content, so free. I lost myself in the present moment. The feel of the ground beneath my paws and the beautiful moonlight against my fur. For once, I wasn’t thinking about Glenn or Violet, my mom, or Peter locked in a cage where he belonged after all he’d done. I wasn’t thinking of offing Regina or how I’d offered myself up to be taken by her goons.

I was only thinking about the run and my beautiful moment with Eli.
