Before I started handing them out, the doorbell rang once more. “Who could that be?” I murmured to myself, wiping my hands on my jeans.
“I’ll get it,” Jasper said.
I gave Charlie the first piece of cake, then continued to pass more around. I almost forgot about Jasper answering the door until he came back, looking unsure. “Reuben, honey, this guy says you invited him.”
“I’m here for the paw-ty,” a familiar voice said from behind me.
I saw who it was and squealed. “Gordon!” I dashed over and threw my arms around him. “You’re here? I never thought you’d actually make it!”
“You remember Cole and Kerry,” he said sheepishly, gesturing to his husband and their daughter. “We were going to be in town anyway, so we thought we’d drop by and surprise you.”
“I am definitely surprised!” I hugged him again. “Yoga classes aren’t the same without you, you know.”
“Forget yoga,” Kerry said with big round eyes. “Daddy, Gordy, it looks like we’re just in time for cake!”
We all laughed, and I served each of them a slice. As enthusiastic as Kerry was for the cake, she got distracted by the puppies before she even finished. Om was especially affectionate—although even Kerry realized the puppy was mostly interested in her food. “Can I give her some?” she asked.
“The puppies have their own cake,” I told her. “I think my boyfriend’s about to give them some right now.”
Charlie had taken my place at the table, and he carved the puppy cake into five equal servings before plopping them down on the floor. “Moon, Sky, Star, Sun, and Om!” he called. “Get over here, or I’ll eat this cake for you!”
Om was already digging into her portion, and the others came running as soon as they heard their names. They still had their little hats on, and Jasper crouched down with his cell phone to take a video of them chowing down.
I looked around me. I was surrounded by the people I loved—both my two amazing boyfriends, and the incredible friends and family who accepted me for me. Five adorable little puppies were the cherry on top.
Maybe I was hallucinating. Maybe I’d reached enlightenment. Maybe my soul had ascended into heaven.
All I knew was that I hoped I’d never wake up.

Married to the Manny
“I don’t want to leave this country. I don’t want to leave my boss.”
When the American government finds out Gordon’s here illegally, he fears he’ll have to leave the precocious nine-year-old girl he nannies - as well as her single, gay DILF of a father. Gordon’s always kept his relationship with his employer professional, and now he’ll have no chance to change that. Except...
“If you married a citizen, you could get a green card.”
Cole makes the proposal out of concern for his daughter. She adores her manny, and Cole doesn’t want to shake up her life again. The offer has nothing to do with the attraction Cole’s always felt for the sweet Canadian caregiver.
“The entire world has to believe we’re in love.”
As Gordon and Cole strive to portray a realistic relationship, both of them fight their growing feelings. Will their fake marriage become real enough to convince the immigration office?
(Married to the Manny is a 200-page standalone gay romance, with a HEA and no cliffhanger.)
