Lacy knew that Chet, Will, Kent, and Walker were right. She’d already had a taste of the lawlessness when those bushrangers had tried to take her, and she hoped to never experience anything like that again. And even though she was grateful that Chet was willing to marry her to keep her safe, she wanted more.

She’d often dreamed as a young girl of finding a man who would love her and she could make a life with. She already had feelings for each of these brave, manly, handsome men and wished they felt the same way about her, but none of them had even mentioned that they cared for her. Yes, they had saved her, but they were all so honourable and it was part of their jobs.

She hoped she wasn’t a chore to them but she wasn’t about to ask because she wasn’t sure she’d like the answer. Lacy had nothing and no one else. There was really only one thing to say.

  “Yes.”

Chet stood up and cupped her face in his hands. He bent down and kissed her lightly on the lips. “Thank you, Lacy. I promise you won’t regret it.” He rested his forehead on hers and inhaled deeply, his eyes sliding closed as if he was breathing her in and liked the way she smelled.

He straightened up, pulled her into his arms, and held her against his warm, muscular chest. She was the one breathing in his scent this time. She loved the way he smelled of soap and masculinity. In fact she liked the way all of them smelled, but most of all she liked being held by them. She felt feminine yet protected in their embraces. Lacy just hoped she’d made the right decision, because it would break her heart if Chet, Will, Kent, and Walker never felt for her the way she was beginning to feel for them. She knew she was in love with them, but also knew that her love for them would grow with each minute she spent with them.

Chet lowered his arms and stepped back. “First thing we’ll head into town and find the preacher. I don’t want anyone being able to malign your reputation.”

  “Tomorrow?” Lacy asked.

“Yes, we’ll get married tomorrow, but now it’s time for you to get some more sleep.” Chet reached up and lightly rubbed a finger beneath one of her eyes. “You look tired, love.”

“I am.” She sighed as she looked toward the bed and then back at Chet.

Will took her hand and tugged her toward him. “I promise to do everything in my power to make you happy, honey.”

Lacy blinked back the tears threatening to well under her lids and gave him a wobbly smile, and she nodded since she couldn’t seem to find her voice. He leaned down and kissed her on the nose, and when he stepped back Kent was waiting.

“Sweetheart, you don’t know how much I’ve waited to have…” He paused as if he wasn’t sure what words he was searching for, but when he glanced away nervously she wasn’t so sure. Maybe he had known what he was going to say but was hesitant. He met her eyes again and kissed her forehead. “Thank you, Lacy.”

Walker nudged Kent to the side. Kent scowled at Walker but then winked at her and she couldn’t help but giggle at their antics. It felt good to laugh a little and some of the grief and anxiety which was weighing on her chest lifted.

“Darlin’, you’re one fine-looking woman and I’m glad you’re going to be ours.” Walker kissed both her cheeks and then lingeringly on the lips, before stepping back. “Get some sleep, Lacy. We’ll see you in the morning.”

Lacy watched as the four men walked out of her room. Chet paused in the doorway and looked back at her. “Don’t worry about anything, love. It will all work out.”

She nodded and watched him go. He didn’t close the door all the way and suspected that was in case she had another nightmare. She hoped she didn’t wake them all up screaming again. She’d never done that before but she suspected that what Chet had said earlier was probably right. Losing her father and then finding out her brother had been killed, too, and tangling with bushrangers was an awful lot to deal with all at once.

Now that she’d made her decision she felt a little lighter and although she knew she and the men had a long way to go to really get to know and understand each other, she was glad she had accepted Chet’s offer of marriage.

She had no idea how she could be with all of them but knew she would find out sooner rather than later. A flutter of nerves took flight in her belly. She was excited but also nervous, but wasn’t about to change her mind.

As Chet had said, “It would all work out.” Lacy concurred with that because she was determined that she would do everything to keep her husbands happy.

She crawled back into bed and stared at the ceiling. Although she was excited about what tomorrow would bring, she was also trepidatious. If someone found out that her and all four of the men were in a relationship, she would she shunned and labelled a whore, but that was the least of her worries.

Tomorrow morning she would stand in front of a minister of the church and speak vows about love, honour, and obedience. Although she didn’t go out of her way to make trouble, she didn’t necessarily obey orders right away either. Especially if she didn’t agree with what she was being ordered to do.

But Lacy had a feeling she wouldn’t want to disobey her men. She’d already had a taste of the pleasure they could bring her and she would do anything they asked if she could experience that again.

She rolled onto her side and pressed a hand between her legs. Just thinking about that made her ache and the moisture began to flow. With a moan of frustration she rolled to her other side, sat up, and thumped her pillow before flopping down onto her back again.

She was tempted to see if she could gain the pleasure she’d felt at their hands but she’d never been tempted to touch herself before and wasn’t about to start now. Besides, she had a feeling it would be nothing compared to how it felt when Chet, Will, Kent, and Walker touched and kissed her.

Why would she want something lukewarm when she could have something boiling hot?

Tomorrow would be here soon enough and then she could have them touch her without any feelings of guilt. Not that she felt guilty about their earlier passionate ministrations to her body. And if that made her a promiscuous harlot, she just couldn’t seem to drum up a reason to care.

  Chapter Nine

Walker woke well before the sun, and after pulling his clothes on, he rushed outside to do some of his chores. Today was the start of the rest of his life and he was going to savour and enjoy every second of it.

After making sure the horses were fed and watered, he hurried out to the chicken pen, collected the eggs, and took them inside. He would wash them later, but first he needed to milk the two cows they had bought to supply milk. Kent and him had even bought a butter churn and tried their hand at making butter. It had turned out okay but there had been something missing from it. Maybe Lacy will know what it is, he thought and then smiled widely.

Chet was getting married and in his mind, all of their minds, she would be wife to all of them. By the time he had finished the milking he had a full pail of milk ready to be cooled and strained.

He hurried inside, washed his hands, and then put a pot of water on the wood stove. He could cook breakfast without burning it. It was one of the only meals he did a decent job with and so he decided he would make sure Lacy had a full belly before they started out for town.

By the time he cooked the salted pork and scrambled eggs, the damper was ready to come out of the oven. He was just setting everything on the table when Chet, Will, and Kent walked into the room.

“Lacy not up yet?” He asked the obvious question but couldn’t seem to stop his mouth from flapping. He was so excited he felt like he had ants in his pants.

“No,” Chet answered. “And don’t go waking her up, either. She had a broken sleep and needs her rest. This is a big day for her.”

“I know it.” Walker brought the coffee he’d made over to the table and then sat down. “I wasn’t intending on waking her.”

  “I’m already awake.”

Walker looked toward the door and his breath caught in his throat. She was stunning.
Her face was pink and he hoped it was from bathing and not because she was nervous or embarrassed or both. He’d like to think she was excited, too, but kept his mouth shut.

Chet turned and walked over to her. “You look beautiful.”

Lacy raised a hand to her hair and smoothed it as if self-conscious, but she had no need to be. She was gorgeous in her blue dress that matched the colour of her eyes perfectly.

  “Something smells good.”

“Come and sit down, darlin’. I made breakfast so you wouldn’t need to bother today.”

Chet took her hand in his and led her to the table. Walker wished that everyone would eat quickly so they could get going, but again he didn’t say what he was thinking.

By the time everyone had finished eating, he couldn’t sit still so he got up and began clearing the dishes. Lacy rushed out of the room and he was about to go after her but she was back before he’d been able to get his body and mind to work in sync. She had an apron on over her dress and she started helping him by washing the dishes.

“We’re going to get the horses ready,” Chet said and then he, Will, and Kent left the house.

Walker wondered if they were going to hitch the wagon or if they were going to let Lacy ride her own horse. He didn’t see how she would do that comfortably wearing that pretty dress but figured Chet would know what he was doing.

Just as he put the last dish away he heard footsteps and then Chet entered. “You ready?”

Walker nodded eagerly and Lacy nibbled on her lip before saying, “Yes.”

“Let’s get going, then. There’s work to be done when we get back.”

  * * * *

Lacy couldn’t believe that she was married. She couldn’t even remember any of the service but decided she must have said the right thing at the right time. She shifted on Chet’s lap and sighed.

“You all right, love?” Chet’s breath tickled her ear, sending a shiver racing up her spine.

  “Yes.”

“You don’t regret it, do you?”

  “No.”

“Good.” Chet’s arm tightened around her waist and he kissed her neck, causing her to shiver again. “You’re not cold, are you?”

  “No.”

  “Good.”

Lacy was far from cold. In fact, she was feeling downright hot and it had everything to do with the man holding her and the other three men riding along with them.

She couldn’t wait to consummate the vows she must have spoken today but she wasn’t sure how she was supposed to be with all of them. She wanted to ask but was too nervous. But nervous wasn’t the only emotion she was feeling. She was excited, too, and her body was eager for each of their touches again.

When Chet’s hand shifted from her belly and up to just below her breasts she had to stifle a moan of need, and even though she tried to control it, her breathing sped up.

“I can’t wait to get you home, wife. The chores can wait for a while.”

Lacy shivered and bit her lip to hold in a moan when Chet moved his hand and cupped her breast through her dress. She barely felt his touch through her corset but it was enough to make her even hotter.

She glanced around to make sure there was no one about and was pleased to see they were the only ones on the trail.

“Do you know what we’re going to do to you when we get back?” Chet asked in a raspy voice.

She nodded and then shook her head. Of course she knew but she wasn’t about to say so.

“We are going to strip you naked and then we’re going to touch and kiss you all over.” Chet’s breathing turned into shallow pants. “I love the taste of your cunny and although I would like nothing better than to lick you until you scream my name, I know the others are hankering for a taste of you.”

Lacy whimpered. She’d never heard that word before but she knew exactly what he meant.

“Did you know that there are a lot of ways a man, or in your case, men can pleasure a woman?”

  Lacy shook her head.

“Have you ever imagined what it would be like to suck a cock?”

Lacy gasped but not from shock. Her mouth filled with saliva and she had to swallow quickly or end up choking.

Chet released her breast, tugged on the bun she’d put her hair in, and she felt it spill down over her shoulders.

  “Fucking beautiful.” Will growled.

  “Magnificent,” Kent said.

  “Gorgeous,” Walker rasped.

Chet tugged on her hair, tilting her head until she was gazing into his blue eyes. “You like that idea, don’t you?”

Lacy just stared into his eyes and then she closed them as he leaned down and kissed her. She moaned when he pressed his tongue into her mouth and she kissed him back with all the passion she’d been holding inside since the first time he and his friends had touched her. She mewled as the heat inside of her grew hotter and she was sure she was about to be burnt.

“Chet.” Will’s voice seemed so far away. “We’re nearly home.”

Chet released her lips and she was pleased to note he was breathing as heavily as she. He kissed the tip of her nose and said, “Hold on.” He gave the horse a signal and then they were galloping toward the house she could see in the distance.

Before she knew it, Chet was handing her down to Will.

  “Blue?”

  “Yes, boss?”

“Can you take care of the horses? I need to get my wife settled.”

Lacy lowered her eyelids when the man glanced at her. She wondered if he would say anything about the familiar way Will was holding her with his hands wrapped around her waist and how he had her pulled up tight against his body.

“Congratulations, Mrs. Harland. Chet.” Blue nodded to Will, Kent, and Walker, smiling at them all, and Lacy wondered if he knew what was going on between them and hoped he wouldn’t judge her to be a loose woman. But when she met his gaze there was no censure in it and she relaxed again.

“Come on, sweetheart.” Will released her waist and clasped her hand. “Let’s get you inside.”

Lacy nodded and let him lead her. She was surprised when he guided her to the kitchen and started to pull cups down from the cupboard. She had expected him to want to go straight to the bedroom. Or maybe that was what she hoped they would do since she was so…hot.

Kent and Walker came in a moment later and not too long after that Chet did, too.

“We need to talk to you, love.” Chet sat down right next to her, close enough that his arm brushed against her shoulder. “Do you know what happens between a man and a woman?”

  “Yes,” she answered honestly.

The tension which had invaded the room while they waited for her answer dissipated.

  “Good.” Will sighed.

“Who told you?” Kent asked his eyebrow raised.

  “No one.”

“Then how do you know?” Walker took a sip of his coffee.

“Um…” Lacy hoped her face wasn’t as red as it felt.

“I saw a maid and stable boy in the stables.”

“What were they doing? Chet asked.

  “He…um. He licked her.”

“Her cunny?” Kent’s voice was hoarse.

Lacy nodded and knew her face was flushed.

“What else did he do?” Will questioned. “Did he take her arse?”

Lacy gasped, lowered her head, and shook it. She had no idea that was even possible.

“Did she suck his cock?” Walker panted.

  Again she shook her head.

“So he just licked her and then fucked her?” Chet nudged her chin up until she was looking at him.

  She gulped and nodded.

“We can do all those things to and with you, love. I promise we’ll never hurt you though. We’ll make sure you are prepared so you never feel any pain.”

Lacy couldn’t stop her curiosity. With each question they’d asked her imagination had gone haywire, but since she’d never seen or heard of what they’d said, she just could
n’t fathom how such a thing was possible. “How?”

Kent pushed his seat back, strode into the kitchen, stepped into the pantry room, and came back out with a small crock of butter.

“Let us show you, love?” Chet rose to his feet and held his hand out to her.

Lacy swallowed audibly and then reached out with a trembling hand and placed her cold one into his.

He helped her to her feet and guided her from the room.

Chet stepped back when they were in the bedroom and Will took his place standing in front of her.

Lacy stared into his heat-filled brown eyes and felt like she was drowning. He cupped her face in his hands and then he lowered his head toward hers. She held her breath and when his lips connected with hers, she sighed.

It didn’t take long for the kiss to heat up and by the time Will lifted his mouth away from hers, she was panting heavily.

“Let’s get these clothes off of you, honey.”

Lacy gulped and nodded, but when she reached up to undo the top button on her dress, Will brushed her hands away and took over the task.

By the time she stood naked before them, her whole body was one big, needy ache.

When she heard rustling, she looked over at Chet, Kent, and Walker to see that they were removing their clothes. She wanted to watch as they revealed their muscular bodies to her gaze, but Will scooped her up into his arms and placed her on the bed.

She had no idea when the covers had been pulled back but guessed it must have been while Will was kissing her. Not that it really mattered, but the sheet felt cool on her heated skin.

Will pulled away, stood up straight, and began to remove his clothes. She glanced over when she caught movement and her breath hitched in her throat. They were all so strong-looking with their bulging muscles and tanned skin.
