“So, if I leave, you won’t have magic any longer?”
She sighed. “I would have, but I won’t have the same strength I have when we are together.”
He stared at her intently, trying to figure out what she meant. “But that’s not the case because we’re back together?”
She gave him an impish smile. “No. That’s not the case because my magic has a new source of power. And it will never leak because that tear has been mended.”
He frowned at her words. “What source is that?”
Grinning, she brought his hand down to her womb. “Can’t you guess?”
She became worried over his dumbfounded expression. It shouldn’t have been a surprise to him. They’d had sex without any protection.
“You mean? You?” His voice had turned thick with emotion.
“Yes. Are you OK?” Maybe she shouldn’t have told him so soon, but she didn’t want any lies between them.
“Yes.” He cleared his throat and smiled. “If I’m with you, I’ll always be OK.”
She was surprised at his lack of enthusiasm. It was starting to worry her. “So? Don’t you have anything to say?”
He seemed to measure his words before he spoke. “What if the baby has darkness within him? Will you hate him?”
Pain for Zahir squeezed at her heart. His mother hadn’t been able to deal with his powers and had dumped him in an orphanage.
“Never! I love this baby whether he has your power, mine, both, or none. Just as I love you exactly the way you are. Even if Luthian hadn’t helped you, I’d still love you. I’ll always love you.”
He held her tightly and sighed into her shoulder. “I love you too.”
Epilogue
Shar sat on a lounger in her mother’s backyard. Her husband was speaking to Luthian.
“Can I get you something to drink, sweetie?”
“Thanks, Mom, but I’m good. I do have a question for you.” She smiled and patted the lounger next to her.
“Oh?” Her mother seemed unsure if she should get involved.
“When are you going to give poor Luthian a break? The man has done so much for Zahir, and you still refuse to give him a chance.”
“Sharmila—”
“Mom.” She used the same stern tone and smiled. “Give the poor guy a chance. He’s obviously infatuated with you.”
Her mother rolled her eyes, and Shar laughed. “You can’t fight fate’s wish. You can only try to veer it in your favor.” Her gaze met Zahir’s. The love that shone in his eyes filled her with warmth. Nope, there was no fighting fate’s wish. Her mother would soon realize it.

Milly Taiden was born in the prettiest part of the Caribbean known as the Dominican Republic. She grew up between New York, Florida, and Massachusetts. Currently, she resides in New York City with her husband, bossy young son, and their little dog Speedy.
She began writing when she learned to put words together and her first book consisted of two homeless dogs living in a park for her second grade English class. She didn’t win a prize, but she acquired a love for writing that never went away.
