‘I will send you back to the moment before the Inquisitors appear in 750AD, and you must stop them before they disrupt the fight that Mr Black is involved in with Horlack nearby. No Inquisitor can get near that confrontation. Do you understand?’
‘I understand,’ she said, feeling the weight of the responsibility that now rested upon her shoulders.
‘Then I wish you good luck, and I will see you shortly,’ it said, and before Amanda could say anything more, a blinding flash of light filled her vision.
‘Excellent,’ Yoh said in jest to Amanda’s comment about making this up as she went along, only to see her suddenly disappear half way through the word.
One second she had been running just in front of him, the next she had disappeared. The effect wasn’t dissimilar to the Porting that a Magi can do, but there had been no snap of air as a vacuum had been created in the air space and no Magic from what he could tell. She was just gone.
Yoh stopped running and came to a halt, looking around him in case anything else happened. Maybe Amanda would appear close by or an unseen enemy would show themselves, but nothing happened.
What happened to her? Where did she go?
Epilogue
Nowhere
Jan 19th
Alicia stood close by her Mistress Yasmin and looked past her to the emaciated body on the raised platform before them. The skin had a sunken and leathery quality to it, looking bruised and kind of brown and purple.
The lips had curled back to reveal the teeth while the eyes had completely rotted away.
This skeletal figure was apparently Kimi Takahashi, the sister to Yoh Takahashi, who was also known as the Black Lotus.
Alicia had never met her before, but she was apparently some kind of Assassin and as part of the deal with Kimi’s father, Yasmin had promised to resurrect her.
The idea of bringing this corpse back to life seemed incredible to her, but she had seen Yasmin do other wondrous things, so this would be just another to add to the list.
Yasmin held up a piece of parchment and unrolled it, revealing its interior face and the strange jumbled up script that covered it. She didn’t recognise the language, let alone feel able to read it, but Yasmin did seem to understand it and adjusted the sheet to focus on one section of it.
As Alicia watched, her Mistress started to read the script out loud. It was a guttural-sounding language full of harsh sounds and short sharp words. It didn’t sound very nice. As she watched, a green mist started to rise up around Yasmin and swirl about her. Soon the mist reached out and started to flow over Kimi and hide her from view. Alicia could feel the Magic at use here as the spell continued on, and fought the urge to back away from the effect.
Yasmin continued reading, until she came to a crescendo, the last few words being almost shouted out.
As she finished, Kimi’s body suddenly sat up, and as the green mist rolled about her, her flesh lightened and started to fill out. The bruising faded away, while wounds knitted back together. Her sunken eye sockets filled out and opened with fresh looking eyes while her lips grew plumper and covered her teeth again as her gums filled back out.
In less than a minute, a fully alive and awake Kimi restored back to full health, opened her eyes. With a sharp intake of breath, she screamed in rage and jumped up to her feet on the platform. Basically naked apart from a few scraps of rotted clothing, she turned to face Yasmin and with a scream, launched herself at the Arch Master Magus.
Alicia had anticipated this, though, and tendrils of shadow erupted from the darkness around the room and caught Kimi mid-jump. Wrapping around her arms, legs and body. Kimi raged at the restraints, doing her best to try and claw at them and rip them off her, but to no avail.
Yasmin ignored the ranting and screaming, calmly putting away her scroll and composing herself before she looked up at Kimi.
‘Have we quite finished yet? Yasmin said.
Already mostly calmed down, Kimi finally fell silent and looked down at Yasmin. ‘My revenge, I desire only my revenge,’ she said.
‘Kimi, believe me, you will have your revenge, but you must be patient and wait for the right moment. In the meantime, by the order of your father, you must serve me, and serve me well,’ Yasmin said.
