She’d thought long and hard about whether or not she wanted a wedding when she was so pregnant. After long conversations with Damien, they had decided to throw caution to the wind – who cares what the public at large thinks! They wanted their happy day, and dammit, they were going to get it.
The yard was teeming with smiling faces, clinking glasses and the joyous buzz of a party. It still felt like a fairytale to Kiara. Somehow, she’d gone from having the best sex of her life, to having the best husband any woman could ever dream of, and a child on the way. She was getting everything she had ever wanted and so much more, and the blessings were so plentiful that she wasn’t entirely sure how she was ever going to live up to all of the good luck bestowed upon her.
“Enjoying the view, sugar?” Damien asked, strolling up behind her.
He snuggled against her, laying one hand gently on her belly as he had become accustomed to doing lately. Kiara grinned to herself, pushing her head back and meeting Damien’s mouth in a sweet, longing kiss.
Just a few hours ago, she had stood in a church in front of her friends and family, professing her love to this crazy, sexy, dangerous man. She hadn’t thought it could get any better, but if that kiss was anything to go by, then she was in for a hell of a ride.
“I am. You? ” she purred softly, made happy and complacent by the day.
“Sure. Though I’d also be just as glad to look at you,” he said.
Damien twirled her around carefully and embraced her in his arms, taking care to be gentle with her ever-growing belly. Kiara faintly thought that she should feel self-conscious about her growing body and even more luscious curves, but the way he looked at her always wiped all doubts from her mind. Her handsome, brilliant husband adored her, and that was all she needed to know. Who had time for self-doubt when you had a billionaire bad boy to tell you how things were!
“You think I make for such a compelling sight?” she teased, and he answered with a grin and another kiss.
“Always,” he confessed.
“Good. I think you at least have to appease me on the wedding day,” she said, giggling.
He snorted, kissing her cheek and trailing down her neck. It made her skin tingle and her body thrum with need for him, their guests momentarily forgotten.
“I don’t think you have any cause to worry about that,” he said, his words slightly muffled by his lips on her skin.
Kiara felt incredibly safe. Her life seemed to be coming together in the most unexpected, delightful of ways. She had been promoted to the position of head marketing strategist at Mirrorview after her coup with Divinad (though she was still sure there were plenty of people who thought she might have ‘cheated’ her way into it by grabbing the CEO of Divinad!). So even though she was entirely sure she was going to take some time off for the baby, Kiara could look forward to an interesting and fulfilling career.
Tasha had given her blessing to the wedding and had even been Kiara’s maid of honor. Kiara had no doubt that her mischievous but caring roommate was down in the backyard somewhere, dancing the night away and capturing some hapless billionaire’s heart and attention at that very moment.
Damien had decided to make Los Angeles their permanent home. Though he still had to travel often, Kiara knew that he went to pains to cut down on his schedule in order to spend more time with his young, growing family. They had plenty of plans to have at least two more kids, and to fill the great big halls of the gleaming mansion with happy laughter and the pitter-patter of little feet.
The greatest relief for Kiara came from the fact that Eliza Whitcomb-Divinad had no claim on her life anymore. Not only had Eliza been removed from Divinad, she’d also essentially been driven from the country. Last Kiara had heard, Eliza was making a scene somewhere in the UK. If anyone were to ask Kiara, she would have said that she couldn’t imagine a better place for that heinous woman – somewhere where her sour mood and spiteful ways couldn’t ruin the weather. There was no place for her in sunny California.
Kiara knew that Damien had had more than one heated conversation with Eliza before she had been forced to leave. Of course, the Divinad heir didn’t go easily, but there were only so many ways she could fight when Damien made it very clear that he wanted to have nothing to do with Eliza and that if she ever showed her face around him again, he wouldn’t be responsible for what he did.
Still, it had taken more than one stern conversation to convince the crazed woman that Damien’s life would no longer include her. Kiara still got goose bumps when she thought about Eliza and what the woman had almost made her do in a moment of utter weakness. Kiara had promised herself that she would never let anyone manipulate her like that again, and she had the feeling that Damien had made a rather similar promise.
“What are you thinking about?” Kiara asked softly as Damien gazed at her, wearing a troublemaker’s smile on his lips.
She knew that usually meant he was up to no good – and that was her favorite kind of Damien!
“Oh, just thinking that this might be the perfect time to sneak you off for some well-deserved personal time,” he said, winking at her in a conspiratory way.
Kiara glanced around herself to see if the coast was clear and that neither one of their mothers were in hearing distance. Having made sure that there was no one there to stop them with an awkward toast, she grinned and nodded, slipping her hand into her husband’s big palm.
“Right. Because we have immediate business to attend to. You know, have to organize this party and all that.”
“Exactly.”
Kiara laughed as Damien pulled her along, making a deliberate beeline for their bedroom.
She knew life could get even better, but frankly, she wasn’t sure how. How do you improve on perfection? With Damien, she would have a lifetime to find out.
