The Night He Saved Me Page 18

With those words from him, I tighten my grip with my legs and am in no place to whisper in his ear, so I yell, “God, yes so close, James, so close. Don’t stop.”

He speeds up a little bit and throws me over the edge to the most amazing feeling I have ever had before. My orgasm came faster and stronger than the first. He continues to pump inside me then says, “Oh, God, Kat, I’m coming.” He stills inside me, leans down, and kisses me softly.

We lie there for a long while still attached, catching our breaths and letting our spasms from the most amazing orgasm work their way out of our bodies. I never knew sex could be this amazing, but I am glad I found out with James.

He gets up out of bed and goes into the bathroom. I hear the water running and a few minutes later he returns with a warm wet cloth and cleans me up. Once I am clean to his standards he gets back in bed, covers us up, and pulls me against his chest. He kisses me on the forehead and says, “I love you so much, Kat. Now sleep.”

“I love you too, James. ‘Night.” I burrow into him and get comfortable. I couldn’t have asked for a better day or night. I will never forget it.

  James

Last night was amazing. I woke before Kat and went into the kitchen to make her some breakfast. When I arrive back to my room, she is just starting to get up. Kat has the biggest smile on her face, and I know that I put it there.

  “Good morning, love.”

  “Morning. Is that for me?”

“Of course it is.” I walk over to her and place the tray next to her and kiss her softly on the forehead. She takes the tray puts it on her lap and digs in. While Kat eats, I go take a shower and get dressed. When I return she is making her way to the bathroom in a hurry. She lifts up on her tip-toes and pecks me on the lips before she dips under my arm to enter the bathroom and closes the door. “I’ll be right out.”

When Kat emerges from the bathroom, she grabs her clothes and gets dressed. I have another surprise for her, and I can’t wait to show her. I grab her hand and start to guide her out of my bedroom, soon to be ours.

“I have a surprise for you, Kat. Come with me.”

“What have you done now, James?”

“You’ll see in just a second.”

I lead her to the door of one of my two guest rooms. “Close your eyes.” She does, and I open the door. I guide her in and tell her to open. She is in front of me so I don’t see her face but I hear her reaction.

I hear a gasp and then she says, “Oh, my God.”

Kat turns to me, tears streaming down her face. I hope they are happy tears because if they aren’t, it would kill me. “James, I can’t believe you did this, when?”

“Yesterday afternoon; after we found out what the baby is. Once I made calls about getting everything set up with last night, I made the arrangements to get this for you. I knew I was going to ask you to move in, and I wanted you to know I wanted both of you here with me.”

She leans up on her toes again and says, “Thank you, I love it all.” She follows with a kiss so soft and full of love.

“I want you to decorate this room however you want, but I wanted to have the furniture you need for her.”

“James, it is all so perfect, I love the white finish and the design. You did amazing with your choice. Thank you.”

We head down to the coffee shop so I can check in with my workers and then make our way to her apartment to tell Bren the news about her moving out. As expected, she is fine with it and tells Kat that she made the right choice. The girls gush about the nursery room and furniture and start to plan how to decorate it. Kat decides that Bren can keep all the furniture and the bed that is already set up in the room so all Kat has to pack are clothes and bathroom things and they are already on that mission. Within half an hour, we have everything packed up and ready to go. When they were packing, I made a call to Max and asked if he could come over and help us. Without an argument, he was there right as the girls finished packing. I have to admit, I am beginning to wonder if Bren and Max have started something just by the look they give each other when their eyes meet. Max is a good guy with a good heart. Bren could definitely do worse.

The four of us carry everything, well mostly Bren, Max, and I since Kat isn’t supposed to lift anything and put it all into my room. While the girls start to unpack Kat notices that I have already made room for her things and that her maternity clothes have already made their way into my room. “Confident much, James?”

“Not confident, positive it would go my way. I’m not wrong very often.” Max and I leave the girls to it and go grab some coffee in the kitchen. “So, Bren?” I ask him.

“Nothing to tell, she is a nice girl, though.”

  “You’d be good for her.”

“I sure am going to try. That girl is a tough one to get through to, though.”

I drop the subject, thank him for everything he has done for Kat and I over the past weeks, and ease into conversation about the Rex Sox. The girls are back out in no time, and we all head to The Java. This has been the most perfect twenty-four hours, and I hope it keeps getting better. I may not have been looking for a girl or even a family, but I am sure glad I now have a reason to live my life and not to just exist in it. Kat gives me purpose and has saved me from a lonely life. My heart is now full with love.

James and I have settled into a good pattern over the past few months living together. My mom and step-dad love him and Bren’s parents do to. After the events that took place at the beginning of the summer, I am so glad to finally feel normal again. Bren and I have been decorating the nursery and it is so beautiful with soft pink and purple everywhere. Bren threw me a small baby shower where I was able to get the big things I needed like a car seat and stroller from both Bren’s parents and my own. Jackson showed up about a week ago with a bundle of baby goodies to include a pack n’ play and more toys than she could ever need. Both Bren and Jackson are so excited to be getting a niece and apparently plan to spoil her rotten when she arrives. I am about a week away from my due date at this point and everyone is on full baby alert. I can’t even text a hello to anyone without getting a reply, “Is it time?”

James has gone to every appointment with me, and every time he sees her or hears her heartbeat, he gets teary-eyed. I love seeing him this way it just shows me how much he loves me and baby girl for who I am and it doesn’t matter how she came to be a part of my life, he has embraced both of us far more than I could ever expect him to.

We are now into the colder months. Thanksgiving has passed with all our families joining together to include Max since he has decided to stay in the Portland area. I honestly think Jackson is paying him to keep an eye on James and me to make sure no one bothers us again, but it is nice to have him around. He has become a part of our family. I think he has a thing for Bren. The way I catch him looking at her sometimes reminds me of the way James looks at me. Bren seems like she likes him when she wants to let herself. Something is going on with her and I wish I knew what it was. She has been pulling away from me, but if she needs me she will ask. I am always here for her as she has always been there for me.

My bag is packed and in James’ car along with the car seat ready for her arrival. No one knows her name, and it is driving everyone crazy. James knows and I know and everyone will know when she arrives. They know we are having a girl and that is all that matters. I’m sitting around watching TV when I decide I need to get up and move. I feel like a house with feet I can’t even see anymore but everyone says I am looking good and James is always saying how sexy I am. If only I believed him. I head down to the shop to see James; I would rather check in with him in person than to text him. He has made this new rule that I need to send him a message every two hours unless we are together. He is crazy, but I love him for it.

I get to The Java and find him behind the counter so I waddle my way over to him wrap my arms around his waist get on my tip toes and kiss him when I pull back I say, “Checking in, Boss.”
With a wink. James laughs and kisses me on the forehead.

“Thanks I much rather see your face than a text. How are you feeling today?”

“I feel great. But I am so ready for her to be here.”

“Me too, my love, me too. Why don’t you go sit and I will bring you your one coffee allowed for the day?”

“Thanks, babe, I love you.” I waddle from out behind the counter and over to my normal comfy chair that I had him add to the seating area. I am about to sit when I feel a rush of liquid between my legs.

“James, can I get a rush on that coffee and a ride to the hospital too?” I yell over to him. He looks at me like I have lost my mind when he notices the mess on the floor and goes into overdrive. Thankfully, his other worker has the right mind to finish my coffee as James runs to his office for his keys and wallet. She brings it over to me with a stack of paper towels in the other hand I look at her and say, “Sorry”

“Kat, it’s fine, not like you meant to break your water on the floor. Good luck, can’t wait to hear the news of her arrival and a name.”

“Thanks, Cindy, I will have him call in when we have news.” Then I see the tornado coming my way, snatching me up like I weigh nothing and carrying me to the car. He sets me in gently after I tell him to grab the towel I have purposely set in the back seat. Off we go to the hospital. We are in the car about two minutes when I get my first hard contraction. James looks over at me with concern on his face but I manage to get through it. A few minutes later I get another one they are four minutes apart by the time on my phone. We get to the hospital and he doesn’t even park his car he leaves it pulled up to the curb, gets me out along with my bag, and rushes me through the door. I really hope he doesn’t think they have valet parking here. We finally get to the maternity ward and he starts to calm down. I think knowing we were where we needed to be helped calm him.

The nurse gets me all settled into a room and hooked up to the monitors. Next on her list is to insert the IV into my arm. Thankfully, I was able to drink my coffee on the way here because now I am limited to ice chips. Once I am settled and James has moved the car to a parking spot, we start to make the calls to everyone. Actually it is more like one mass text message.

James: We just arrived at the hospital. Kat’s water broke.

Many replies start to flood his phone all the same message from each person saying, “On the way.”

Shortly after the mass message, my doctor arrives and decides to check me. I am currently moving along fast and am at 8cm so our baby girl will be here sooner rather than later. By the time family starts to arrive they are told to stay in the waiting area because the doctor now has me pushing. In a matter of ten minutes, I have reached 10cm and pushed with all my energy and heart to have my beautiful baby girl in my arms and tears in my eyes. James is right next to me eyes filled with tears as well. He leans down and places a kiss on her forehead like he has done with me from the start. “You are beautiful, and I love you,” he whispers to her.

The nurse comes over to us and asks to take her to get her cleaned up, and reluctantly, we let her go the few feet away from us. When she is returned to my arms, she has a perfect little pink hat on and is wrapped up in a blanket. I get cleaned up a little bit while James holds her and then we allow the family in to meet our beautiful little girl and finally find out what her name is.

Once the door is opened, the room gets smaller with the additional seven people, Bren’s parents, my mom and step-dad, Jackson, Max, and Bren. James reluctantly allows each person to hold her and when she is returned back to my arms I announce her name, “I want you all to meet Stephanie Elizabeth Russo.” I decided to automatically giver her James’ last name because I hope he will be the only father figure she will ever know and love.

A chorus of acceptance comes from the crowd. Slowly, after a while, each pair starts to leave the room and head home for the night allowing us to get some rest. Jackson hangs behind, and I notice he hands James something. I don’t question it but focus on my beautiful Stephanie as she sleeps. Jackson says his good-bye and is the last one to leave. James walks over to me sits on the edge of the bed and again kisses my forehead.

“Kat, you did amazing today. I love you so much.” He pecks me on the lips and continues, “I want you to know how much I love you and Stephanie, you are both my world now and I will forever be here to love and protect you both.” He strokes a finger across her cheek and looks up at me again. “I want us to be a family in every way possible. Kat will you give me your heart for the rest of your life and I will give you mine. Will you marry me?” He pulls out the blue box Jackson had just given him and opens it to show a very beautiful, diamond, Tiffany ring, exactly like I had described to Bren. I wish these darn tears would go away but they won’t so with tears in my eyes, I look into his and say the only thing I can say, “Yes.”

  The End

Where do I even begin? After being a reader and then becoming a part of the book world by supporting the self-published authors I love I took the step to put my own words to paper with the love and support of so many people.

I want to thank my husband and kids for always supporting me no matter what. For my kids asking “How are people going to read your book when it’s on your computer?” and the shock in their face when I say it will be online to buy…. And explaining that there will be more than one copy available. LOL. Thank you to my mom, who has always told me I can do whatever I put my mind to and I am stronger then I think I am. My family I love you.

I want to thank my friend Jason Sears who always pushes me forward, makes me laugh when I need to smile and makes me clean my garage when he comes to visit! Now you can say your name is in print

Melissa Andrea for being there when I have questions or need your opinion, for your excitement and support. Tabatha Vargo the Synopsis Queen, Thank You. Ella James, for making me feel comfortable with what I was writing and being so supportive. Mary Krenek, Nikki Trettle and Jennifer Theakston for giving my book a shot and giving me great feedback and suggestions. Micalea Smeltzer I have to thank you so much for pointing me in the direction of Wendi Temporado, who has been amazing at teaching me the ways of editing. Lindee Robinson for an amazing cover and Photography. Jeannie Christo for being as excited as I am for this book.

Bloggers and reviewers, I want to thank you for taking the time to read and review. You are the ones that help grab the attention of readers and I appreciate your support in the self-publishing community.

Readers I must thank you for giving my story a chance because without you I wouldn’t have anyone besides my family and friends to read my story. I really hope you enjoyed reading my words as much as I enjoyed putting them to paper for you.
