The Long Shot

Adrienne blinked. She was so tired she wasn’t sure she’d heard Morgan correctly. “A trip? Thursday?”
“Uh-huh.” Morgan sighed. “I think we could both use a break. Time to be together.” She pushed the envelope once more in Adrienne’s direction, and this time she took it. “Open it, please?”
Shaking her head in mystification, Adrienne slid her thumb under the seal and opened the envelope. Inside were three or four sheets of paper, which she pulled out and turned toward the light from the desk lamp.
It was a travel itinerary, but only the odd word here and there leaped out at her, as her eyes and brain struggled to take it all in.
Caribbean. First class. Private villa. Jacuzzi. Beach view.
“Morgan.” Adrienne’s voice sounded strange even to her own ears. “What is this?”
Shuffling, Morgan thrust her hands into the pockets of her dress pants. “Well, you know, Charlie said I should keep doing that wooing thing. So this is me, you know, wooing you.” She blinked a couple of times. “Adrienne, I’d love to see you on a quiet beach, the sun in your hair, the sand at your feet. I’d love to make love to you in a jacuzzi under the moonlight. I’d love to spend fourteen uninterrupted days with you by my side, showing you how much I love you.” She inched closer. “And I’d like us to have time to talk about what we do now, how this”—she motioned between them—“will work, given how far apart we live, how much travelling we both do. I mean, only if you’re ready to talk about all that. We don’t have to. Not yet.” She rolled her eyes. “God, I’m rambling, sorry.”
Adrienne gazed up at Morgan. Her mind whirled with all the thoughts Morgan had just planted about their future together. Her hands clutched at the papers as if they would somehow anchor her against the storm of emotion threatening to floor her.
Morgan pulled her hands from her pockets and carefully tugged Adrienne into her arms. “What do you think?” she finished quietly. She gazed down at Adrienne with a hopeful expression on her beautiful face.
Adrienne breathed deeply, willing herself not to ruin her makeup by crying, but it was a hard-fought battle. “I think,” she said, tossing the papers on the floor, “that you are without a doubt the most wonderful woman I have ever met. I…I can’t believe you’ve done this.”
Morgan’s face opened up with a beam of a smile. “Is that a yes?”
Adrienne chuckled and leaned up on her toes to kiss Morgan softly on the lips. “Oh, my love, that is most definitely a yes. And Daniel can go to hell if TC Productions won’t let me take the time off.”
Morgan grinned, then dipped her head and kissed her deeply. She enfolded Adrienne in her strong arms and pulled her close.
When they eased apart some moments later, Morgan had a sly smile on her face. “Of course, there is one condition.”
Adrienne quirked one eyebrow at her, on full alert given the playfulness written all over Morgan’s face. “And what might that be?”
“Well, it is a beach holiday. And that means you have to…wear a bikini.”
Adrienne snorted. “I haven’t worn a bikini in ten years.”
“Then it’s about time you started again.”
“Morgan…” Adrienne sighed and closed her eyes for a moment.
“Adrienne,” Morgan whispered, before tracing the tip of her tongue along Adrienne’s cheek to the top of her ear, where she licked delicately, making Adrienne’s knees go weak. “You know you are the sexiest woman I’ve ever met. The thought of seeing you in a bikini drives me crazy, but if it’s too soon, I’ll understand. No pressure.”
“We’ll see,” Adrienne offered. She smiled. “Maybe I could wear one when we’re in our villa. It might be a little too much for me to cope with wearing it on the beach.”
“Hm, I could live with that,” Morgan said. She kissed a trail down the length of Adrienne’s neck. “Probably best for all of us, actually. I doubt I’d last five minutes before I’d want to rip it off you anyway.”
Adrienne shook her head. There were still some things she was getting used to about being with this amazing young woman, and Morgan’s desire for her body was one of them. But still, she knew she had plenty of time to adjust and all the time in the world to learn to revel in it and to revel in what being in love with Morgan Spencer was all about.
Because each of them knew this was going to last for a very long time.
“You still tired?” Morgan asked, her hands coming to the back of Adrienne’s dress.
Chuckling, Adrienne reached for the zipper on Morgan’s pants. “It seems not, no.”
“Good.”
Morgan’s lips returned to hers, and as the contact deepened, Adrienne sunk into the kiss and lost herself once more in the heady feeling of being loved by Morgan.
