Meredith smiled. “Just recently.”
“My, oh my. First Stuart and now Edward. Where will it all end?”
Meredith laughed out loud. “I have no idea, but it does make life interesting.”
Felicity nodded in agreement. “It does indeed.”
“Anyway, I hope that Winnie has learned a lesson, too. I hope she survives her punishment, and comes out of prison a better person. Most of all, I hope she can be reunited with her child.” Meredith’s eyes misted over. “I know what it’s like to lose a baby. So does Essie. I hope Winnie doesn’t have to lose hers.”
“Amen. What about James? Do you think he can pass on now?”
“I certainly hope so. More than that, I hope he is the last ghost I’ll ever see. I’m just not astute enough for this type of work. I’d much rather leave all that to people like Edward.”
Felicity laughed. “Maybe you should join forces with him. You’d make quite a pair.”
Her cheeks warming, Meredith shook her head. “Thank you, Felicity dear, but I’m quite happy being the headmistress of Bellehaven. That’s quite enough adventure for me.” She picked up her teacup, and uttered a gentle sigh of contentment.
