“No,” Serena argued. “You can’t kill Nicolas. It will haunt you.”
“He has to die,” I insisted.
She nodded. “Yes, and that’s why I’m going to kill him. I should have done it the day we escaped with Juliet. I need to be the one to do this.”
“All right,” I agreed. “There has to be a break in this spell. I can’t lose Juliet.”
“That Shadow Walker recognized her,” Serena stated.
“Shadow Walker?” Fiona asked.
“Yes,” I replied. “The last three spellcasters to arrive were Shadow Walkers. Why do you sound like that’s a bigger problem?”
“It could be a very big problem,” she replied before turning to Darius. “Change of plans. Find our leader and tell him the sins of the Shadow Walkers have come back to haunt us.”
“What exactly does that mean?” Darius asked.
“He’ll know,” she assured him. “We need to get to Juliet quickly.”
“Why would the Shadow Walkers want to hurt her?” I demanded after Darius ran off.
“I don’t know that they do,” she admitted. “All I know is that they tried killing her mother the first time she changed forms.”
“Her mother?” I asked.
She nodded. “Yes, Eliza Shadow Walker.”
Juliet really was a Shadow Walker?
“If they hurt her, I’ll kill every last one of them,” I snarled.
Juliet and Dante’s adventure continues in Sins of the Shadow Walkers.
Author’s Note
Were you surprised by Juliet’s origins? I was when the idea came to me. When I first started writing this series, I intended to include a distant spellcaster connection, but I never planned to have Juliet come face-to-face with the reality of her spellcaster heritage. As I become more curious about the Shadow Walkers and how they related to this new world, I knew they needed to be a bigger part of this series.
Check out Sins of the Shadow Walkers to find out what happens next in Dante and Juliet’s story. That will be the final book in this story arc, but there will be more in this new world.
