Sean stopped growling and dropped his head in submission, but I could see the defiance in his posture. Thomas walked forward again and held out his hand for the heart. Sean shook his head and stepped around Thomas to me. Thomas stayed where he was, watching Sean with worry lines creasing his forehead.
Sean dropped to his knees on the ground and set Jeff’s heart in front of my snout as a gift. He cleared his throat and shook his head a few times before his eyes finally returned to their normal hazel color and he could say, “I love you too.”
