Zombie Road (Book 1): Convoy of Carnage Page 32

by David A. Simpson

He didn’t know. He just knew this was a far cry from any kind of stories his grandpa Cobb or his dad had told him about the Marines.

  Author’s Note

There is much more to tell in the Zombie Road saga but this seemed like a good place to end the beginning of the story. I hope you enjoyed it and will follow their journeys in the second book. If not, then you weren’t left with a life or death cliffhanger on the last page and you can take comfort that they are all alive and well with no imminent danger lurking over them.

Jessie and his friends have found a good place to go into hiding and as long as they stay put and don’t do anything stupid, they will easily survive the zombie outbreak. Everybody knows teenagers never do anything stupid so they should be just fine.

Lacy and her new friends are in a predicament, trapped in the hi-rise with all avenues of escape infested with the undead. They’ll probably think of something. Maybe they’ll find an ample supply of food and all live happily until the zombies wither away.

Gunny and the crew from the Three Flags are well on their way to the safe haven of Lakota. I’m sure they’ll arrive without further incident, all of the nuclear reactors will be safely deactivated and he’ll embrace his role as a politician. He’ll send a helicopter to pick up his family. He’ll make peace with the Muslims, start shaving and wear a suit every day.

  Or … not.

Thanks for reading my first effort. I hope you found it interesting and my new author mistakes not too tedious.

Some of the technical stuff is a little off but that’s all on me. Creative liberties for the sake for the sake of the story and all that.

Most of the folks in this series of books are based on real people I have known through the years.

The Three Flags was actually a little hole-in-the-wall truck stop in Texas that served the best coffee on the road.

Wire Bender really exists, builds big radios and lives in his trailer behind a little mom-and-pop truck stop in Georgia.

If you’ve been in the military, we all know a Cobb or two. Mine is based on a Sergeant Major I had in the 3rd Armored Cavalry and he was quite a character.

Griz, Scratch, Tiny, Packrat, Cadillac Jack, Gunny, Lacy, Jessie and even Stabby (whom I met at a Monsters of Rock concert in England) are all based on friends or family. Cookie used to make the best $5.00 steak and eggs (with a cigarette dangling from his mouth) at the No Hooker Café in California.

Hot Rod is a mashup of dirt track racers I cheered on in Kentucky and Cannonball Run guys I’ve raced with across this great nation of ours.

I would appreciate it if you took the time to leave a review on Amazon or anywhere else you like to haunt. I’m David Simpson on Facebook but there are a bunch of us so this is a link to my page. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009128109716

Give me a follow for information about the next book or let me know of any criticisms you have. I appreciate them all, take them into consideration and hopefully they will improve my writing!

  Thanks again

  David
