As she spoke the words seeped into my soul.
I’d always dreamed of meeting someone like Adam, but I never thought guys like him were real.
Then he came along.
I got together with a man I fantasized about for years. He saved me from losing everything and losing my dream.
He must have really cared about me to do all of that, and so much more.
He wasn’t just Mr. Delicious. He was Mr. Perfect.
“How do I thank him Stella? He took care of everything. I could never repay him for any of it.”
“I doubt that he intended repayment. How about you just accept his gift and pick up where you left off? There was a smile in her voice.
Pick up where we left off… That did sound good.
“I don’t know how. I feel like I’ll always have this hanging over me. What do I have that could even come close to what he’s given me?” That was what I’d been thinking about.
What Adam gave me was so much more than simply a gift. It was a miracle.
“Wren, you silly girl.” Stella laughed.
“What, why am I silly?”
“The man told you what he wanted. He wants you.”
My gaze drifted off to the window, out to the movement of the trees rustling against the wind. I stared for a long time. So long I forgot I was talking to Stella.
Me.
No one had ever just wanted me. I was never enough.
“Wren, are you still there?”
“I am.”
“Is the simplicity of this finally dawning on you?”
“Yes.”
“And do you want the gorgeous, delicious man who worships the ground you walk on?”
That was a no brainer.
“I do.”
“Fantastic, now snap out of this shit funk of self-pity and non-sense about embarrassment. Embrace the goodness.”
Embrace the goodness. Yes.
I still felt that tug of embarrassment, but would I allow it to ruin the very best thing that had ever happened to me?
No.
“Okay.” I nodded even though I knew she couldn’t see me. “I can do that.”
“Good.”
I smiled to myself. “Thanks Stella. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“I know. Now, Miss Wren, I don’t expect to see you this side of the world for a while. Bring me back something from Rome.” She laughed.
The thought of Rome was good, but there was a plan I had to put in motion first.
My Mr. Delicious had made it his mission to make me happy.
I was going to do that for him too and right now I knew of only one thing that made him happy.
It was a start. The start of me doing whatever I could to be what he was for me.
Everything.
He was my everything.

The birds chirping outside made me stir and my eyes fluttered open. Feeling a little disorientated I opened one eye, then the other and looked about me.
The window had been left open and it brought in the fresh scents of morning. That and something that always made my day that much better.
Cinnamon and chocolate chip cookies.
Wren’s cinnamon and chocolate chip cookies.
I bolted upright at the thought knocking off a blanket that had been placed over me.
Last night. I remembered last night. How Wren found out who I was and that she was mad at me.
But if she was mad how would I be smelling my favorite cookies?
I got up and made my way into the kitchen and there she was. My girl.
She’d just pulled out a tray of heaven when she saw me come in. Her hair was pilled on top of her head in a messy bun and she wore a cute little pink top that clung to her breasts just the way I liked it.
And shorts, she was wearing shorts. Short denim shorts that showed off her golden, slender legs.
“Wren, I…I’m still sorry,” I offered but then she shook her head.
“You said Mr Jordin would like my muffins. Since I know he likes my cookies I thought I would make both.”
Oh God, she wasn’t mad anymore. Hope and excitement coursed through me.
“I can tell you he’s very grateful.” I stepped closer.
“Oh that’s great. I’m glad to hear that because I don’t have much to offer. He saved me in a massive way, cleared all my debts and gave me a chance to keep my dream alive.” She offered a little smile.
“Mr. Jordin sounds like a nice guy, but those cookies are like gold. Can’t really put a price on them.”
Emotion welled in her eyes. “He’s the best. Far too good for me, but since I’m head over heels in love with him I’m hoping that maybe I can deserve him one day. I’m hoping I can still be enough with my cookies and my love.”
I couldn’t believe what she was saying, and I couldn’t believe the way I felt. My heart soared, glowing within the walls of my chest. I moved to her and swept her up into my arms and kissed her.
“I love you.” I told her, whispering the words against her lips.
“I love you too Adam Jordin.” She pressed her forehead to mine. “And I still feel like I’m walking around in a dream because I can’t believe you did all that for me.”
“I love you. It was easy.” I ran my finger along the smooth, silk of her skin.
“Adam,” she breathed gazing into my eyes. “Thank you so much for everything. That was what I should have said last night. Thank you, thank you. I couldn’t possibly say enough thanks.”
I cupped her face and gazed down at her. It felt so great to finally hear her say my name. “You’re more than welcome. Wren, I’m really sorry. I wished I told you who I was before.”
“No, it’s fine. It’s a nice surprise. You said AJ was short for something and that you’d tell me soon. And you did tell me. I was just shocked. Thank you for everything Mr. Delicious.” She smiled into the kiss she gave me.
“You know how you can thank me.”
“How?”
“Go to Rome with me.”
“Bags already packed.”
I laughed and picked her up. Holding her close with the comfort and satisfaction of knowing that she was all mine.
Mine only and everything I could have ever wanted.
No more talking.
Time to indulge on my Mrs. Delicious.
Epilogue
Wren
* * *
One year later…
“Naughty kitten, you’ve had me six times already,” Adam laughed, taking hold of me and pulling me into his lap.
“And yet I want more, Mr. Delicious,” I wrapped my arms around his neck.
We were in Paris again, at the chateau— this time for our honeymoon. It seemed fitting— the perfect place to celebrate the beautiful and truly magical year we’d spent with each other.
“Wren, we can’t stay in bed all day,” he teased, tracing kisses down the side of my neck.
“Why not?” I laughed. We had the same argument every time.
“Because I want to have dinner with my beautiful wife. We already missed our reservation at L'Abeille last night.” He tweaked my nose playfully, and I giggled at the memory of last night.
While honeymooning here, we were trying to relive our first trip in full detail, which meant dinner at L'Abeille at the Shangri La —except we didn’t make it.
It was my fault for showing him the lingerie I’d brought along with me.
We’d only left the house to return again and we were still here.
“Okay, let’s go,” I agreed with a little pout.
“Wren, you’re supposed to sound more enthusiastic than that,” he chided, pulling on my bra strap. “But …If you’re insisting we stay in bed, I’m not going to complain about that.”
He smiled that gorgeous smile that still filled my stomach with butterflies.
“Yayyy. But …” I pressed my nose to his. “Let’s still plan to re
live our first date at some point because if I remember correctly, I get to have you six times when we get back home.” I gave him a saucy look which I knew he appreciated.
“Yes, your memory is definitely right. Come here.” He crooked his finger and beckoned me to his lips for a kiss that told me repeatedly how much he wanted me.
Adam had taken me to some amazing places and took the very best care of me; working my fingers to the bone and worrying about debt were all a thing of the past.
As was Billy. Billy went to prison for his part in not only scamming people but getting mixed up in drug and sex trafficking. The day I found out who he truly was, was the day I rejoiced for how things turned out.
Being with Adam, for me, was heaven. He was everything and more and we had a happy life together.
When we were in Chicago, he made sure that me being at the coffeehouse was just about enjoying what I had and the dream I saw when I’d first set up the place. When I wasn’t there, I was always with him. Whether that was at our home or going to some island for an adventure.
Wherever we were, I always felt his love.
“I love you, Wren,” he whispered against my lips.
“I love you, too, Adam.” I kissed him again to seal my words, feeling grateful that I finally had all I ever wanted and the love of a man who was my everything.
My Mr. Delicious.
