  “U of H,” Necole said.

  “What happened to Spelman?”

“This,” she said as she patted her belly.

“You could have found suitable housing and a daycare for the baby. Your cousin Sandra did it.”

“I was telling her that,” Ms. Dean added. “The baby shouldn’t stop you from going to the school of your choice, Necole.”

“Mom, I know…but this is my first baby. I don’t know everything to be on my own in another state with a brand new baby.”

“Well, have you thought about leaving the baby with your mom for a little while? Or is that out of the question, Janet?” Judy asked her sister and niece.

“I told Necole that I’m willing to keep him through the semester,” Ms. Dean said. She was willing to do anything to make sure that Necole was as far away from Carmelo as possible.

“I can’t live apart from my newborn baby,” Necole shook her head as she looked at Carmelo at the corner of her eye. She could tell that he was bothered by her mom’s suggestion by the way his body stiffened.

“She’s your mother, Cole. You know that she’d take care of the baby,” Judy insisted.

“But that’s our responsibility,” Carmelo interjected. “And if anything…my baby would be with me, but I think that Necole should stay in Houston for now.”

“Oh, really?” Janet held her head sideways. “Why should she stay in Houston? Are you going to provide for her and the baby? Are you going to keep your fucking hands to yourself?”

This caused Ms. Brenda to look up. She was crossed between anger and understanding. She was Carmelo’s mom, but she also had a daughter. She knew that she’d have a problem with the man that had placed his hands on her child.

“Mom, can we not have this conversation right now?” Necole gritted.

“I’m sorry, baby…but I can’t sit here and pretend. He’s here all over you when just a few months ago I had to call the police on him for choking you in my yard.”

“And I know that, but this isn’t the time to discuss my personal relationship.”

“When is the time, Necole? Before or after you have the baby he endangers every chance he gets?”

“I think that this is a subject that should be discussed in private,” Ms. Brenda spoke up.

“You’d say that since you raised this woman beater!” Janet spat.

  “Excuse you?” Brenda asked incredulously.

“Wait, wait. This is going too far,” Necole interjected.

“Yeah, it is,” Brenda said, standing up. “Let me get the hell out of here before I hurt somebody.”

“You’re leaving, Ms. Brenda?” Necole asked.

“Yes, I am. Come on Carmelo and Carmella.”

Carmella stood while Carmelo remained seated. “Walk us outside,” he whispered into Necole’s ear.

She nodded and then they stood together. “Well, let me walk them to their car.”

Necole didn’t wait for a response as she walked away with Carmelo and his family. “Ms. Brenda, I am so sorry about the way my mom is acting.”

Brenda shook her head. “Don’t apologize for that. She was just being a mama. That’s the reason I got up and left. At the end of the day, he is my son, but I don’t condone what he has done to you. So I understand her anger, but I can’t sit back and allow her to disrespect me or him.”

“Man, your mama is on some other shit right now. But I ain’t trippin’ because she got her reasons. Just let her know that I apologize to you and her for putting my hands on you,” Carmelo said as he handed her two hundred dollars. “Pay for our tab.”

Necole nodded. “I’ll let her know. Ya’ll drive safely.”

  “Baby, I can’t cum again.”

He didn’t say a word as he continued to suck her clit.

“Melo, let me go,” Necole whined.

He shook his head while never removing his tongue from her clit. She couldn’t even see his face due to her huge belly blocking the view. Her thighs were saturated with her cum and his semen. She loved how he’d eat her out even after he’d busted a fat one inside of her.

They’d been held up in his room for two days. What started off as a visit had turned into a fuck-fest. They were both long overdue and couldn’t get enough of each other.

Necole almost felt like she was betraying her mom as she found comfort and warmth with Carmelo. She could tell that their bumpy relationship really affected her mother. She knew that her mom just wanted the best for her, but she couldn’t deny what was in her heart. She loved Melo and it wasn’t easy to just walk away from him.

“Baby, stop. Oh my God, I coming!” she panted as her legs trembled. He kept on licking making sure that she felt him. He wanted her to go delirious from the orgasms he gave her. “What, what are you trying to do to me?”

Finally he lifted his head. “I just want to make you feel good,” he said as he stroked her thigh. He glanced down. “Damn…you got this bed soaked and wet.”

  “That’s your fault.”

“I’ll take the blame,” he nodded as scooted up in bed. He was now eye to eye with her. “I love you,” he told her.

“I love you too,” she said in a whisper.

“I know,” he smiled as he rubbed her belly before kissing it. “You look like you ready to pop.”

“Who are you telling? I don’t think that I ever want to get pregnant again.”

  He chuckled. “I hear you.”

“I know you do. You definitely don’t need another baby. This is your third…that we know of anyway.”

“There you go. That ain’t got nothing to do with the amount of babies we’ll have together.”

“If you say so,” she sighed.

“I do,” he said as he kissed her.

It was four o’clock in the evening and they were lying in the bed butt naked. Until now, Carmelo never realized how good pregnant pussy was. Necole stayed wet; making him want to stay in it twice as long.

He placed his hands between her thighs as he kissed her. He stroked her clit while she tried to remove his hand. “It’s still sensitive down there,” she tried to tell him.

“This is my pussy. I do what I want with it. And right now, I want you to cum again.”

For the rest of the day they had sex. In the middle of the night, they had to take a break because Necole was complaining about her back hurting. A few minutes after that, her water broke letting her know exactly what was happening. She was in labor.

Melo rushed her to the hospital where she quickly delivered the baby. It all happened so fast. They were both expecting for her to be in labor for hours, but the baby was ready as soon as they arrived at the hospital.

Necole was in excruciating pain because the doctors weren’t able to give her an epidural because it was too late. So she felt everything as she pushed her son into the world. The baby boy came out screaming.

“He’s crying and I’m the one in pain,” Necole sighed as she allowed her head to fall back on the pillow. She was exhausted.

“He got strong lungs,” Carmelo smiled as he watched the doctors clean his son.

Necole couldn’t even think straight. The only thing going through her mind was a nap. She hadn’t called anybody to tell them that she’d had the baby.

“Carmelo, dial my mom’s number for me,” she said weakly.

He grabbed her cell and called her mom’s programmed number. When she picked up he placed the phone to Necole’s ear.

  “Hello,” Janet answered.

  “Hey, mom.”

“So you finally decide to call after you left this house two days ago?”

“I know that I should have called. I’m sorry,” she apologized.

“Sure you are. Where are you now?”

  “I’m at the hospital.”

“Are you in labor?” Janet asked as her interest piqued.

  “Actually, I just had him.”

“You had him? Why didn’t you call me while you were in labo
r?”

“Because it happened too fast; as soon as we got here, I had him.”

“Oh my God, you had the baby. What hospital are you in?”

  “Herman.”

  “The room?”

“I don’t know, mom. Just ask when you get here,” Necole said, sounding like she was seconds away from falling asleep.

“Okay, baby. I know you’re tired. I’m on my way,” Janet said before she hung up.

Before the day was over, Necole and Carmelo’s family came to the hospital. They were thankful that there was no drama. Everyone was too busy adoring Carmelo Junior. Although there was already a Carmelo Junior, Carmelo insisted that the baby have his full name as well. After seeing a lighter version of himself, he couldn’t call him anything else.

  * * * * *

Janet saw it coming before it even happened. Just a few days after having her baby, Necole moved back in with Carmelo. Before then, there had been conflict about him coming to visit Junior in Janet’s house which caused friction between her and Necole. Janet was not ready to forget about all the things that Carmelo had done. She knew that he was like a ticking time bomb and it was just a matter of time before he’d blow again.

Necole fully understood her mom’s position, but she wasn’t quite ready to let Carmelo go. Taking care of a newborn baby was tough and she didn’t want to do it alone. There was only so much her mom could do with a full time job, while there was plenty of help in Carmelo’s house. Not only did she have him, but his mom and sister as well. So, that gave her opportunities for naps and short breaks.

Although this was not Carmelo’s first child, it felt like it was. This was the first time that his child was under the same roof as him. So, for the first time, he had a real connection with his child. Deep down he knew that it had something to do with the fact that he hadn’t loved another the way that he loved Necole. He knew that he cared about her more than anything else. It was all new to him, but he embraced it.

“What’s up, little nigga?” he asked his son as he sat on the couch with him in his arms.

  The baby sleepily yawned.

“You sleepy, huh?” he asked softly.

“You need to put him in his bed. You gon have him spoiled,” Ms. Brenda said as she sat across from them.

“That’s alright. He can be spoiled,” Carmelo said as he slowly rocked his son.

“Okay, you saying that now. Don’t come looking at me when you can’t get no sleep ‘cause he want ya’ll to hold him.”

“Then Necole gon hold him,” he shrugged.

“Boy, please. That girl will fall asleep on him and you know it,” Ms. Brenda said. She had unintentionally created a monster. Necole had gotten used to her taking over and often slept through her own baby’s cries because she knew that someone else would get him.

“That’s because you let her. I don’t know why you don’t let us get him at night.”

“It’s because my baby be crying his little heart out. He be needing his grandma,” Brenda cooed in baby talk.

“See…you the one spoiling him,” Carmelo shook his head.

  “That’s what grannies do.”

“Yeah, okay mama,” he smiled. Just then someone knocked on the front door.

“Who is it?” Brenda asked as she walked over.

“Amber,” a voice said from the other side.

“Hey,” Brenda smiled as she opened the door.

“Hello,” Amber smiled as she walked in with her baby in her arms and with Cali and Corrine bringing up the rear.

Carmelo looked up at them and nodded. He had no idea that they were coming over.

“Necole!” Brenda shouted. “You got company.”

They all listened to her footsteps as she walked into the living room. “What’s up?” she asked as she brushed her hair. Her baby was just six weeks old and her body had already bounced back, but her ass was still slightly bigger. She stood in sweats looking like an undercover video vixen.

“We came to see what’s up with you,” Cali offered.

“Aw, that’s so sweet,” Necole cooed.

“And to see the baby,” Corrine added.

“Well, he’s right there,” she pointed.

“I see,” Cali smiled as she stepped in Carmelo and the baby’s direction. She took a good look. “He is too cute.”

Carmelo beamed with pride as he looked down at his son.

“Can I hold him?” Cali asked.

Carmelo nodded before carefully handing her the baby. “Hey, man,” she cooed.

“Let’s go in the room,” Necole waved to her girls. Cali handed the baby back to Carmelo. They all followed her to the back. She went and sat on the bed. “Close the door.”

Corrine pushed the door closed. “Bitch, I see that you got that body back.”

“And you know this,” Necole patted her hair.

“So, how does it feel to be a mommy?” Cali asked.

“It’s okay. I mean…it’s a lot of work, but I love my baby,” Necole shrugged.

  “Same here,” Amber sighed.

“So, what’s been up, Amber? Is Lil’ Daddy taking care of his responsibility?”

“Yeah,” she shrugged. “But I’m tired of that muthafucka.”

  “Why? What he do now?”

Amber sucked her teeth and rolled her eyes. “Girl, he just so fucking stupid and I hate that it took for me to have a baby with him to see that. You know that he was acting brand new while I was pregnant?”

  “Yeah,” Necole nodded.

“Okay, so now that I’m not pregnant he wants to fuck with me again. He’s talking all this family shit, but I ain’t trying to hear it. I got a new friend and for a little second, Lil’ Daddy didn’t know about him. So he was coming by on a regular basis bringing money or whatever I needed for the baby. I ain’t gon lie, he was putting in time as well as money and that surprised the shit out of me. I thought that he was going to be a deadbeat, but he was actually doing right. But that doesn’t change how he shitted on me while I was pregnant with her. So I’m like I’m doing me. Okay, so he comes to the house the other night unannounced. My mama and daddy are both gone. So it’s just me, the baby, and my friend Bucket Head…”

“Wait, wait. Your friend’s name is Bucket Head?” Necole interrupted.

“Yeah,” Amber rolled her eyes. “Now can I finish?”

“Go ahead,” Necole shook her head with a smile.

“Anyways…like I was saying before I was rudely interrupted. Me and Bucket Head were chilling. He had some hydro so we were blowing back a few. Then here comes this nigga, Lil’ Daddy, knocking on the door. So you know that I’ma let him knock. But then here comes my hating ass sister opening the door for him. Remind you, I can’t get the bitch to open the door for me when I have a bag full of groceries in each hand but she conveniently opens the door for my baby daddy. So now Lil’ Daddy’s in my mama’s house clowning…talking about I got some hoe ass nigga around his daughter. And see, Bucket Head ain’t no punk. He’s straight from Coke, so you know he was ready for whatever. So now I got two ignorant muthafuckas ready to tear my house up. I knew that Lil’ Daddy might be a little pissed, but this nigga went out on the deep end. He pulled out a gun and got to asking Bucket Head if he fucked me.”

  “What?!” Cali gasped.

“That’s the same shit I said. Thank God, Bucket Head had the good sense to lie because that nigga was talking about killing everybody in the house.”

“Dayuum!” Corrine stressed. “So how did you get everything calmed down?”

“Shit, I had to lie and say that me and Bucket Head were just friends. I could tell that he didn’t believe us, but he couldn’t prove nothing. And now the nigga is on some other shit…calling me constantly wanting to know my every move. I’m like where the fuck was all this interest when I was pregnant?”

“I know that’s right. He’s a fucking trip. All that running around he did with those other hoes and now he wants to tie you down. Niggas!” Necole spat a
s she shook her head. “These niggas better learn. Time don’t wait for no man.”

“Yeah, yeah, Necole. So I take it that your situation has improved?” Cali asked with a raised brow, knowing that she was pretty much in the same boat as Amber.

“For now. He’s been acting right, but we’ll see how it goes,” Necole answered honestly. “I’m not claiming to have the picture perfect situation over here, but that’s why God blessed me with two feet. I can always go home if all else fails; but for right now, it’s more convenient for me to be here.”

Amber looked at her sideways. “Bitch, it ain’t just about convenience. So stop fronting. You here because you love that nigga.”

  “That too,” Necole nodded.

“Well, at least you can admit it,” Corrine shook her head.

“I guess,” Cali rolled her eyes. “So are you going out to eat with us?”

  “Today?”

  “Yeah.”

  “Where are ya’ll going?”

  “We’re going to Chili’s.”

“Oh, okay,” Necole nodded before standing. “Hold up. Let me see,” she told them as she left out the room.

“She got to ask him first?” Corrine whispered.

Necole walked into the living room to find Ms. Brenda holding the baby. “Where is Carmelo?”

  “He just left.”

“Did he say where he was going?”

  “Nope.”

  “Dang,” she flapped her arms.

  “What? What’s up?”

“I was going to see if he could keep the baby for about two hours while I go and eat with my friends.”

“Oh, they’re trying to go out to eat?”

  “Yes, ma’am.”

“Well, go ahead. I’ll keep him.”

  “Are you sure?”

“Positive. He’ll be alright for a couple of hours.”

“Aw, thank you. You’re the best granny in the whole wide world,” she said giddily as she kissed Brenda on the cheek.

“Child, hush,” Brenda blushed as she fanned her away.

Necole skipped back to the room. “Let me get ready,” she told everybody.

  Chapter 11

Necole enjoyed laughing with her girls. It had been a minute since they’d hung without her huge belly tagging along. It felt good to be out and about, but seeing her footloose and fancy free friends made her envy their lives. They had all graduated and were supposed to be partying all summer long. Instead of wild parties, Necole’s nights were replaced with shitty diapers.
