As Mr. Miller swiped his credit card, Layla bagged up the paint. “Be sure and bring me a picture when it’s all painted.”
“I will.” Abby said. “Do you want to come help us paint it?”
Layla laughed. “I just might do that.”
The store was quiet after they left. There wasn’t much business on a Tuesday afternoon. Layla sat on a stool behind the counter and found her place on her iPad’s Kindle app. She was about seventy-five percent finished with Jane Eyre and had a test on it in the morning.
Engrossed in the story, she didn’t hear the back door open.
