"I am sorry to hear that but I do not see as it is any of our concern, Karen. Please go away before I am forced to make you."
"Please tell me: is Lily here?"
Lily put a gentle hand upon Natalia's back as she smiled, set down her weapon, and led her out to meet her former captor now turned captive. As she surfaced into the sunlight Lily saw impressions wash over Karen's face both of regret mixed with love as shadows danced between them.
"It's okay, sweet Lauren. I am old friends with Karen. You must be hungry and tired after your journey. Please come inside, all of you."
The four children—two boys and two girls—trembled as if they were chilled though the day was pleasant and a warm sun shined down upon them all. Lily was unsure how to approach such creatures: her intercourse with children was limited. Natalia seemed to sense her lover's recalcitrance; she went to the little ones and knelt before them with her arms outstretched.
"You will be safe here, my precious ones. Come to me."
Lily watched amazed as the girls ran into Natalia's arms gripping her with a passion that belied their circumstances. The boys held back as long as they might before they too succumbed to the lure of the embrace.
