“That too, but we’re going to need you to buy more before then. We’ll work that out,” Jason added sounding just as winded as the rest of them. “No, what my brother was hinting at is something else.”
“Like what?” Gloria asked her curiosity piqued.
“Somewhere under that tree is a small jewelry box and inside is a nice ring. If you agree to wear this ring, you will be given another ring say around this time next year, but only on one condition,” Jake said. Were they asking her what she thought they were? So soon?
“What’s that?”
“You’re going to have to change your last name to McCoy,” Jason replied. Gloria laughed and the boys began to chuckle with her.
“Well you know, it wouldn’t be the first time I had to change my name.”
“But it’ll be the last,” both Jake and Jason said simultaneously. Then they all once again exploded into laughter as they wrapped themselves in each other's arms. With Gloria snug in the middle, right where she belonged.

Shashauna P. Thomas graduated from Cornell University and SUNY Stony Brook with two BAs' before returning to the Bronx where she was born and raised to live with family. She’s had a number of short stories published. In addition she is currently working on a number of new books and hopes to also get those published in the near future.
