“I wanted to get a good look at my girls before we went to join everyone else.” Grady picked up the explanation where Alexis had left off. He held out his arms and waited.
Savannah did a princess pirouette.
“Beautiful!” Grady said, giving his little girl a hug. He gestured to Alexis. “Your turn.”
She did a pirouette, too.
Savannah sighed, completely enthralled. “You look really pretty,” she declared.
Grady’s eyes glowed. “Absolutely gorgeous,” he agreed.
Alexis felt stunning, in the strapless, ivory silk gown. She gave Grady a slow once-over. He looked very handsome in a charcoal-gray tuxedo. “You’re pretty handsome, too.”
“Very handsome,” Savannah agreed. Already bored with the conversation, she sprinted toward the door. “I’m going to find my flower basket!”
Once again Alexis and Grady were alone. Contentment flowed, and their future beckoned, as bright and dazzling as the diamond sparkling on Alexis’s left hand.
“Have I told you lately,” he murmured, taking her in his arms and holding her close, “how happy you’ve made me?”
“All the time.” Alexis drank in the clean, familiar scent of him. “And for the record, you’ve made me incredibly happy, too.” They kissed slowly and sweetly.
Downstairs, the music started. Savannah clattered back up the stairs. Reluctantly, bride and groom moved apart.
“Then there’s only one thing to do,” Grady drawled as his daughter burst through the door, petals from the flower basket already spraying every which way. “Let’s get married.”
“Yes!” Savannah shouted. “And live happily ever after!”
“Sounds good to me.” Alexis paused to kiss both of them.
So they did.
