Scott walked into the kitchen and grabbed a beer out of the fridge for himself. “You want a drink? I got some Jack for you,” he called out.
“Yea, but let me get it,” she joined him in the kitchen. She wanted to ask how he was doing, but she was apprehensive he’d take it as her hovering. She grabbed a nearby glass and started making herself a drink while Scott leaned against the counter watching her.
Even as exhausted as he was, her presence excited him, and if he wasn’t still covered in someone else’s blood, as well as grass, mud and who knew what else, he’d be all over her.
“You’re perfect,” he muttered, not realizing he said it out loud.
“What?” She turned around, not sure she heard him.
Not sure if it was the exhaustion, or if it was watching Dani’s ass while she fixed a drink, but he realized he wanted her around all the time. He wanted her to be the person he came home to after a long day. Through the events of the day, his thoughts turned to Dani often, and once everything had calmed down, she was all he could think of. It was in that moment Scott decided he would tell her how he felt, even if it was too soon; even if she didn’t feel the same way. He couldn’t keep it to himself any longer.
“Dani?” He asked.
“Yes?” She turned around, drink in hand with her usual sparkling smile.
“I have to tell you something,” he said, not sure how to begin, suddenly his throat feeling dry. As he took a sip of his beer to rethink what he was going to say, she replied.
“Okay… are you alright? Do we need to go get you checked out?” She seemed concerned.
“Oh, no. No, not at all. I’m fine. I’m just dirty. I want to talk to you about something,” he stuttered out.
“Uh, ok. Talk,” she furrowed her brows at him, still concerned something was wrong.
“I… uh… hmm, this is harder than I thought it would be,” he said.
“Oh my God Scott, spit it out,” she snapped at him.
“I love you!” He blurted out, shocking even himself. As he watched her blue eyes become saucers from surprise, he scanned her face looking for a reaction other than shock.
“You must have hit your head today,” she relaxed her shoulders and giggled.
He set his beer down, and grabbed her glass, setting it on the counter behind her. Taking her hands in his, he stared into her eyes and took a deep breath. “I did not hit my head today. I am not injured or under duress, I promise you,” he watched her tilt her head as she listened intently. “I am in love with you. I realized this today for sure, but it probably happened when I met you. The moment you showed up in my life, you’ve been on my mind. You’re the first thing I think of when I wake up in the morning, and the last person I want to see at night, and even though your cooking is terrible, I want to have dinner with you every single night. Every time I saw a door open today, I expected - and wanted - it to be you walking through it. I daydream about those blue eyes of yours, and today, all I could think of was how I could make sure you were safe… so, yea. That’s what I wanted to talk about.” Hardly taking a breath while blurting it out, he took in some air, and then grabbed his beer.
“Well, that was a lot of information,” she whispered.
“Listen, it’s cool if you don’t feel the same way. We practically just met, but after the day I had, I couldn’t keep that shit to myself for another second. Sorry,” he took a sip of his beer, feeling like perhaps he’d made a mistake.
Not saying a word, Dani lunged forward, crushing her mouth to his, kissing him in response. She never thought she could feel this way, but after everything that had happened in her life, she realized it was all to bring her to this moment; to this man.
As their kiss broke, Scott cupped her face in his hands. “So that’s not a bad thing?” He asked with a grin.
“Nope. Not a bad thing,” she whispered, going in for another kiss.
“Okay, good. I was afraid I might scare you off,” he said, relieved.
“You really must have hit your head today,” she replied.
“Why do you say that?”
“Because obviously I love you too, duh,” she giggled. “Now come on, let’s get you cleaned up.” She tugged at his hand to lead him to the bathroom. “Bring your drink. We’ll have shower beers… and you know…” She gave him a coy look through her lashes, sending a jolt to his cock immediately.
As he followed her to the bathroom, watching her hips sway ahead of him and anticipating his hands all over her naked body in the shower, his heart began to pump against his chest. She wanted to take care of him, and he didn’t realize until that moment that she was exactly what he needed in his life.
As she began peeling his filthy clothes off of him, he thanked the universe for sending this woman to him. She was home, and he couldn’t wait to spend every day worshipping her.
