“Really?” she looks beyond excited, and I can’t help but smile.
“Yes. Really. I mean, if you want to find out, then you will. It’s a bit late for us to keep this from you.” I admit the truth I’ve known these last few months. The thing is, if Kayla wants to find out about Mermaids, she will, she’s too mixed up in the world of the Occulta Mirum and its Queen not to.
She snuggles down into the covers even further, and I rise from the bed, moving to the door and closing it so we won’t be disturbed.
Sitting down on the edge of the mattress yet again, I cross my legs, feeling a peace within myself I haven’t for a while. Things are changing; that’s for sure, but I’m also feeling more at home with myself than I ever have before.
Taking a deep breath, I cast away thoughts of the last few days and look Kayla straight in the eyes.

HER PRESENCE ALLOWED DEMONS PASSAGE INTO OUR WORLD, AND NOW SHE HAS ENTRUSTED OUR PROTECTION TO THE MER. CRYING DIAMONDS, IMMORTALITY, AND SPECIAL POWERS ARE ONLY A FEW OF THE THINGS THAT MAKE BEING A KINDRED SOUL OF ATARGATIS SO SPECIAL.
PSIRENS: BEING FURIOUS AT ATARGATIS’ IMBUEMENT OF POWER TO MORTALS, POSEIDON CREATED WHAT HE PERCEIVED AS A MORE PERFECT ALTERNATIVE. THE FIRST PSIREN, SOLUSTUS, WAS CREATED USING PURE DARKNESS STOLEN FROM THE WELL OF ETERNAL TORMENT. PSIRENS, AS POSEIDON SOON FOUND OUT, CAN TURN OTHERS TO BE LIKE THEM BY THE EXCHANGE OF BLOOD. THEIR FORCES GREW BEYOND WHAT POSEIDON EXPECTED, TURNING HIS OWN WEAPON AGAINST HIS INTENT.
ADARO: FEROCIOUS AND FEARLESS, THE ADARO COME ALL THE WAY FROM THE ARCTIC. CALLIE’S FATHER, GIDEON, RULES THEM WITH HIS POWERS TO TURN WATER TO ICE. USED TO HARSH CLIMATES, THESE PALE CREATURES FEEL AT HOME IN THE COLD, WHERE NARWHAL JOUSTING IS THEIR FAVOURITE PASTTIME. THE ADARO ARE FOREVER IN THE SERVICE OF SEDNA.
SELKIES: FROM LOCH NESS IN SCOTLAND, THE SCOTTISH SELKIES ARE ENTIRELY CONSISTED OF RED HEADED, HOT BLOODED MALES WITH A SEXY SCOTTISH ACCENT TO BOOT. THEY ARE IN THE SERVICE OF THE GOD LIR.
WATER NYMPHS: ENCRUSTED IN JEWELS OF MANY DIFFERENT VARIETIES, THE WATER NYMPHS ARE CHARGED WITH THE PROTECTION OF ITALY, PARTICULARLY THE CANALS AND WATERWAYS OF VENICE. ISABELLA, QUEEN OF THE WATER NYMPHS, LOVES ALL THINGS DECADENT, AND RECENTLY LOST HER HUSBAND, PAOLO, IN THE RECENT BATTLE WITH THE PSIRENS. THIS POD ARE IN THE SERVICE OF THE GOD NEPTUNE.
MANELI: SPIRITUALITY AT IT’S BEST COMES THROUGH NOWHERE MORE PREVALENTLY THAN IN THE MANELI OF SOUTH AFRICA. WITH ANIMAL PRINT TAILFINS, A KNACK FOR CAMOUFLAGE, AND SOME OF THE MOST ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY, THE MANELI AREN’T TO BE TRIFLED WITH. EVEN THOUGH THEIR LEADER AKACHI LOST HIS LIFE IN THE RECENT BATTLE WITH THE PSIRENS, THE MANELI REMAIN AS EVER IN THE SERVICE OF THE GODDESS AVA.
KAPPA: FROM THE YONAGUNI PYRAMID OFF THE COAST OF JAPAN, THESE STEALTH FIGHTERS WITH KOI CARP TAILFINS ARE A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH. EMPEROR HIRONORI LEADS WITH AN IRON FIST, WHICH SHOWS ONLY TOO CLEARLY IN THE DISCIPLINE AND ORGANISATION OF HIS TROOPS. MIZUCHI, A GENDERLESS HIGHER POWER, IS SERVED DILIGENTLY BY THE KAPPA.
SIRENA: AS SERENE AND CHILLED AS THE HAWAIIAN SURF ON WHICH THEY ARE SO ACCUSTOMED TO CALLING TEMPORARY HOME, THIS NOMADIC POD OF MER IS CONNECTED TO THE SEA AND WHAT LIES WITHIN. THEY KNOW THEY ARE NEVER FAR FROM THEIR GODDESS KANALOA AS THEY SPEND MUCH TIME CLEANING UP THE OCEAN AND MEDITATING TO IT’S RHYTHM.
