She tossed him a leather jacket. It was a little big on him, no doubt one of Saber’s.
“Thank you,” he said softly.
“Of course. Now get him the hell out of here before it’s too late.”
Chapter 22
Mack had never driven under the stars like this and had to admit that it felt better than anything he had ever done before. He gazed at the sky above him, stretched above the open road. It was beautiful. Saber had fallen into a restful sleep. Whatever Sandy had given him had worked wonders, and they had been driving for the past four hours. It had given Mack ample time to think about what to do, and he thought he’d finally come upon a solution.
When Saber woke up again, he was astonished to find himself in a hotel room, with Mack gazing attentively at him from across the room.
“Are you all right?” Mack asked, rising up and offering him a glass with a straw in it.
Saber sipped and smirked. “Been better. Where the hell are we?”
“We’ve crossed two states. I’ve been up for like thirty-eight hours. I needed a nap so we stopped here. Besides, it’s time for your medicine.”
“I see…”
Mack gingerly lifted Saber’s head and held him gently in his arms. “Open up.”
Saber reluctantly swallowed his medicine, and Mack tended to his stitches, cleaning them and re-bandaging them the way he had seen Sandy do it. When he was done, Mack was still lying next to Saber. The television set was on, and Mack was suddenly pulled into a deep, dreamless sleep.
The next morning, they were on the road again. This time, Saber was more aware than he had been for the first part of their journey, and they enjoyed the feeling of the open road together. He still wasn’t strong enough to ride on the bike, but it was nice to have his company, whether they spoke or not.
A few weeks later, after several similar hotel stays, Mack announced that their journey was near an end.
“I did something kind of impulsive,” he said sheepishly. “And you can totally go back to Joshua Tree whenever you want to. But I did this for me. And because…well, it’s convenient.”
“What did you do?” Saber asked, fixing a curious look on Mack.
“I bought something. Made some arrangements while you were sleeping. It’ll be a nice place to recover for you, and when it’s over…well…”
Mack fell silent and they rode with mounting suspense to their destination.
Chapter 23
They arrived at the ranch house located deep in the desert. It was already furnished. Mack had used half of his savings on the ranch, one that had been used in an off-the-grid grow-op. There were raised beds full of dead plants, and Saber and Mack exchanged looks with each other.
“Looks like a fixer-upper,” Saber said with a tired grin.
“It’ll do,” Mack said, refusing to be discouraged. He’d chosen the place after seeing all the pictures posted on an ad using the data on his phone. It had everything he’d been hoping for, including its own private well and small man-made body of water. Even if he needed to spend the rest of his life fixing it up, he would make it work and live sustainably just as he’d imagined he would as a kid.
They walked inside, Mack’s stomach knotting nervously as they went. He helped Saber as much as he could. His injuries had gotten better, but they still needed a little time to heal.
“Wow,” Saber said. “It looks a lot better inside.”
“It will look better outside once I put some time into it. But you probably won’t stick around to see that. Since you want nothing to do with me and all.”
Mack cringed inwardly, knowing that he was letting his emotions speak for him and not expecting Saber to deal with it. But he couldn’t help being catty. He had been holding his feelings back for this long. Now that Saber was feeling better and they were finally in the place he planned to spend the rest of his life, he didn’t want to hide his true feelings anymore.
“Mack, I’m sure you understand why I had to keep my distance from you, right?” Saber said, sighing. “The truth is, I’ve always wanted to find somebody like you. I wasn’t always this way. I’ve had a hard time figuring out my place in the world, being a shifter. And the fact is that people can’t accept it. I could never be myself around anybody except other shifters. And Aunt Sandy. But other shifters are all about breaking the rules. Making their own laws on the road. I fell in with that and have done things I’m not proud of. But the thing that makes me feel the least proud is treating you badly. Shifters…I have a gene that could get you pregnant. And since being with you, all I wanted was to do that. But I didn’t think there was any way you’d accept that, so I needed to put some distance between us.”
Mack was silent for a moment as Saber looked down at the floor.
“I’m sorry, Mack.”
He was too ashamed to look back up at Mack, who was both touched and amused by Saber’s sulkiness. He responded by wrapping his lean arms around Saber’s broad torso and planting light kisses on his neck. Saber inhaled sharply at the feeling of Mack’s lips, and his body relaxed against Mack’s.
Mack suddenly felt overwhelmed by the desire to carry Saber’s pups. It had been a long time since he’d been so turned on, and being behind Saber, pressing his body against the broad muscles, awoke a longing he’d forgotten he could have. Even before Lance had cheated on him, he’d lost interest.
“How are you feeling…you know, internally?” Mack asked, running his hand over Saber’s stomach gently.
“I’ve been healing,” Saber said. “We regenerate fast.”
“Good,” Mack said.
Saber groaned as Mack slipped his hand into Saber’s jeans, squeezing the base of his shaft lightly. He could feel it harden immediately under his touch and sighed as Mack began running his hand up and down the length of him. He moaned in pleasure as Mack slipped himself out of his own pants and ran the length of his member along Saber’s ass. He pushed Saber’s pants down and cried out in pleasure as Saber came quickly and suddenly in his palm.
“That was fast,” he whispered into Saber’s ear.
Saber chuckled. “That was nothing.”
Mack pulled Saber’s shirt off of him and ran his hands up and down Saber’s body, grinding gently against him as he lubricated his shaft with Saber’s cum. They made their way to the bedroom, where a beautiful, hand-made wooden bedframe stood by the window. A stream of sunlight illuminated the clean white sheets, and Mack stripped the rest of their clothes off before laying Saber down gently on the bed. Saber shuddered as Mack showered his big, broad body with gentle kisses, and soon took his cock into his mouth. Mack’s tongue ran along the shaft, caressing it with gentle licks. He gingerly turned Saber onto his stomach and placed fervent, hot kisses along his back, finally understanding the wolf tattoos that lined his muscular body.
The man’s back was more sensitive than Mack had imagined, and Saber seemed to feel every placement of his lips acutely, and squirmed, panting softly into the pillow. They paused for a minute, letting the suspense build as Mack roused his own member, rubbing himself gently along Saber’s thighs. He kissed the small of Saber’s back, and then, without any warning, suddenly plunged his tongue into the cavern of his ass. Saber moaned and bucked his hips as Mack eagerly tongue-fucked him, lubing him up. He reached around, pleased to discover that his massive cock was hard as a rock.
He lapped at him sinuously for a while before Saber turned around and pushed Mack onto the bed. His erection was ramrod straight, curling up and red against his bellybutton. He flipped Mack over with a mischievous grin and knelt at the edge of the bed, pushing the head of his cock in. Mack closed his eyes as the heat of the rugged man penetrated the sensitive nerve endings, sending shivers of pleasure up and down his body. Saber began rocking his hips until Mack was quaking beneath him with pleasure.
“I’m gonna get you for this,” Saber warned him, and Mack laughed at the threat.
“Good,” he panted.
Mack grinned and turned bac
k into the pillow, lifting his hips a little to make it easier for Saber to push inside of him. He’d never felt so intimate with another man before. Joking during sex was a taboo. Everyone he’d been with had taken their pleasure very seriously, but with Saber, they could do both and it wouldn’t be a big deal. It wouldn’t kill the mood – they would be all the more aroused.
Mack wasn’t a fucking kind of guy. He didn’t like to ram hard the way that Lance did, the animalistic type. He liked to take it slow and sensually, and it seemed that Saber, who usually just took what he wanted, had every intention of making him enjoy every second of it. The man was putty in his hands as he lifted his hips and slid himself inside, until he had fully disappeared into Mack’s body. He rested there for a minute, feeling Mack’s tight muscles contracting around him. Saber moaned, the anticipation almost too much for him. But he waited.
Finally, Mack could wait no longer and pushed himself back on Saber. He took the hint and picked up the pace, a final surge of desire rushing through him until he could no longer restrain it. He thrust his hips forward, surprising them both with the urgency of it. Mack moaned, and Saber reached around to stroke Mack’s cock as he plunged deep inside of him again and again.
They writhed on the bed together for what seemed like centuries, until finally, Mack’s breath caught in his throat. His cock trembled in Saber’s hands, and they came together in a euphoric rush of ecstasy. Saber’s explosive orgasm wetted the sheets and dripped down his thighs, filling him completely with flood after flood of white pleasure. Its power unleashed the deep wave of hot liquid that had been tingling in Mack’s own abdomen. Saber slowly thrust in and out as his orgasm lifted them both to new heights, until finally they were both spent. Saber flopped onto the bed beside Mack, both of them panting.
Saber reached for Mack’s hand and clasped it tightly, and th ey gazed into each other’s eyes.
“I’m not going anywhere,” he said.
Epilogue
Saber was true to his word. At the end of the week, Mack’s abdomen had become slightly swollen and had taken on a deep purple color. At first he was alarmed, until Saber’s look of complete joy helped him realize what this meant. They were going to be parents.
“I’ve always wanted to have a big family,” Saber said. “That’s one of my secret dreams. Something I could never have done with the MC up in my shit all the time.”
“Well, it looks like your dream came true,” Mack said with a smile.
“Hell, yeah!” Saber exclaimed, and unleashed a happy howl into the night air.
As soon as he was recovered, he set straight to work in helping Mack to create an off-the-grid settlement where they could pass their days away and raise their children together without anybody telling them what was proper. Mack grew more and more pregnant by the day.
Finally, one late afternoon while Saber was working away, planting their crops and tending to some of the livestock Mack had ordered to be delivered, he heard a sharp cry coming from inside the house and ran in, alarmed.
“Is something wrong with the pups?” he asked, his eyes wild with an emotion Mack had never seen before – pure fear.
Mack laughed and shook his head. “No, but they’re coming.”
They spent a tedious few hours together, Saber coaching Mack through breathing exercises until finally, six beautiful pups were whimpering and nuzzling, laying between Mack and Saber.
“They’re absolutely beautiful,” Mack whispered, touching one lightly on its head. It nuzzled him and snuggled into his chest. “Will they ever be part human?”
“Of course,” Saber laughed. “Wait until the terrible twos – you’ll wish they aged like dogs.”
Mack grinned. “No. I’ll love them exactly as they are.”
Saber gazed at him, his broad face softened and gentle. Mack couldn’t believe that he had the love of his life beside him, and they lay together with their pups, grateful that the world had given them exactly what they had been hoping for, even though it was exactly the thing they had least expected. They were happy.
