“Here,” Commander Brady handed her the glass of ice-cold water.
Sarifena guzzled it down, spilling some out.
“Please let me call him. You’re burning up.” Commander Brady pressed his hand to her head.
Sarifena nodded, “Fine.”
She watched as he pressed the phone to his cheek. His face becoming hazy in front of her. She could see his lips moving, but the words were garbled.
“Sarifena!!” He reached out and grabbed her just as her head began to swim. The world tilted, and she tumbled into his arms. “Your Majesty…” Commander Brady shook her, pressing his fingers to her neck.
“FUCK!” He sounded so far away. She tried to speak, but nothing came out.
Sarifena felt her body move to a laying position. She rolled her eyes, trying to see what was happening, but everything was blurry.
Doctor Heath kneeled beside her, “What did she eat?”
“I don’t know.”
“Find out. I need to know. Sari, baby,” he pressed his hand to her cheek, “can you talk to me?”
Her body was hot and sweaty, her hair matted to her head. He leaned down, pressing his ear to her mouth, “She’s breathing.”
Sarifena tried to turn her head to look at him, but her body wouldn’t cooperate.
He leaned in again, “Sarifena… don’t die on me.”
It was the last thing she thought he said before the world went black.
“What’s wrong with her?” Commander Brady kneeled beside the doctor, his hand pressed to her arm.
“Call the other Kingdoms,” Doctor King stood, “Sarifena’s been poisoned.”
