“The autopilot lever is digging into my kidney.”
I laugh loudly, uninhibited, as I lift her up and carry her back to the chair we began in. She is still breathing hard from the exertion, huffs of air against my neck.
“I love you,” I say, the words coming, like everything else about this, as easy as breathing, as easy as life.
Anna kisses me thoroughly in answer, her hands brushing over the spines at my shoulders. She wraps her arms around me, pulling the two of us as close together as we can get, skin against skin.
“I love you too,” Anna says. “And I love this baby.”
Both of us badly need to stand up, shower, and clean the console. If Jackson has any inkling of what has occurred, he will likely demand the pilot’s chair be replaced or possibly burned. At the moment, though, I cannot be bothered to care. I want to rest here, with Anna’s words still fresh in my mind and her lips peppering my skin with soft, lazy kisses.
In all my life, I have never been happier, and I know that it will only get better from here. For once, I cannot wait for the future, wherever it takes us.
