  Selected Parlophone/Apple Discography

With the Beatles, John Lennon recorded for the Parlophone label in Britain, a subsidiary of Electrical and Mechanical Industries (EMI) between 1962 and 1970. As the band issued its last recordings on its new company label, Apple, Lennon began his solo career recording with his wife, Yoko Ono, on both Apple and its experimental subsidiary, Zapple, in 1968. During the dissolution of Apple in the early 1970s, Lennon’s solo recordings reverted to the Capitol label in America, and EMI throughout Britain and Europe.

This discography updates the Beatles’ catalog for the digital era, using all the UK track sequences. However, to correspond with this narrative, the original British release dates and catalog numbers have been used to provide a succinct chronology. All Beatles’ songs are by Lennon-McCartney except where indicated. For clarity, bootlegs, repetitions, and unnecessary overlaps between singles, albums, and compilations have been omitted. For a complete Beatle discography, consult Mark Lewisohn’s The Recording Sessions (Harmony, 1988). The most recent editions, usually referred to as the 2009 Remasters, rank with the best digital mastering, and continue to reward close listening in both mono and stereo.

Lennon’s solo singles listing appears at the end, with chart numbers from both the U.S. and the UK to diagram his cross-Atlantic persona. For a complete Lennon solo discography, see Chip Madinger and Mark Easter’s Eight Arms to Hold You (44.1 Productions, 2000).
