“Who do you think owns the company that’s building the new lodge?”
“That’s you?” she gasped. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because you were more interested in the past than the future,” he said.
She frowned. “I don’t like secrets, Paul. I need to know you. So many things make sense now.” She laid her head against his chest for a long moment then looked up into his eyes. “I’m not one of your floozies,” she said. “I won’t be moving into that house until the wedding.”
“Wedding?” he said. “I haven’t even asked you to marry me.”
“Well, you’d better hurry up.”
He shrugged, grinning. “I thought I’d get the church repaired first.”
She grinned and squealed with excitement. “Oh Paul, do you mean that!? Oh, it will be beautiful, I know it.”
He held her close, marveling at the way she fit so easily into his arms until Joe yelled from the car, “It’s getting hot in here. Can we get out yet?”
He waved to them. “Get the car unloaded. I think we’re home.”
