  “Keep it.”

  “I didn’t know he had kids. You’re nasty just like him. How can I help you?”

  “Move out. I’m calling all tenants to let them know, I’m taking over the building and making it a more upscale building full of lofts. You have sixty days to come up with four-hundred-grand to buy your place or move out. Good day.”

  Dotty bid her the same and gently hung up the phone.

  She realized that some days it really didn’t pay to answer the telephone.
