ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dan Koeppel is a nature, outdoors, and science writer whose work has appeared in national magazines including Wired, Popular Science, Elle, Audubon, Backpacker, Bicycling, and the New York Times Magazine. He is a contributing editor at National Geographic Adventure and the author of To See Every Bird on Earth, a memoir published by Hudson Street Press in 2005. He has written for television and movies, including Star Trek: The Next Generation, and is a member of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. He grew up in Queens, New York, and lives in Los Angeles, a place in the vicinity of which nearly every kind of fruit—except bananas—was once grown.
