Werewolf's Grief (Bloodscreams #2) Page 27

by Walker, Robert W.

Lou hung up on that note and Stroud felt strangely alone, and yet strangely at peace. He knew that he had taken each step in his fight against Kerac and Kerac's kind with the intention to safeguard human life; he knew, as Lou and Anna knew, that he was not the fiendish architect of evil, but the demolition expert of evil; he trusted firmly that his visions and his actions were right actions. Stroud thought of the incredible heritage of his family, brought to his attention not by his father who had been killed by a vampire's conniving, but by his dead grandfather's spirit which he had inherited along with Stroud Manse; he now invited visitations from the benevolent ghost of his past which continued to guide his steps.

Finally, Abraham H. Stroud was beginning to accept his "aberration" and his difference. He accepted even the fact that he had somehow survived a battlefield in Southeast Asia that no one else had survived. He accepted the fact that he survived the Andover devils that had infested that place for generations before he had arrived, kept at bay all those years by his ancestors. He also accepted his fate in regard to Kerac's attempts to destroy him, and in doing so destroying almost everyone around him. He had been spared to finish out his life, to encounter again and to struggle again with evil.

Stroud now knew beyond any doubt that this destiny was ordained by a higher power, a power that had implanted a psychic gift from nature, and a power that had crowned this gift with a melding of mind and minerals in the steel plate in his head. All to stave off the satanic, the horrific and the abominable in this world.
