Flora, Fauna, and Foul Play Page 8

by Carolyn L. Dean

“Hey, you know what you married,” he said. “I love you to pieces, lady, and that’s not going to change. You’re my best friend, and I’ve never been this happy. No one’s going to hurt you while I’m around. I know you can take care of yourself, but even you have to admit sometimes it’s nice to have someone to watch your back and help out.”

There was a moment of silence between them, then she quietly said, “It is nice. Thank you.”

He pressed a quick kiss on the side of her temple. “Anytime.”

Katie began to fuss a bit, her dimpled lower lip puckering in dissatisfaction, and Amanda slid off the bed, then turned around and pulled the baby onto her shoulder. “Time for someone to take a nap,” she said. “Tell Daddy night-night.”

James followed them as Amanda walked down the hallway and laid the baby down in her crib. As soon as she’d pulled up the baby’s favorite butterfly blanket, Katie stuck her thumb in her mouth and her eyes fluttered shut.

Tiptoeing out of the room, James and Amanda looked at each other wide-eyed as the door clicked shut.

“I’ve never seen her go down so easy,” Amanda said. “You think she’s okay? She’s not sick or something— “

James laughed, a deep, rich laugh that came up from the bottom of his being. He grabbed Amanda and hugged her. “She’s not sick. She’s just happy Mommy is home. That’s all. She knows all is right with the world.”

  THANK YOU...

... for reading this book! This book was a bit different for me, because even though it was many of the favorite characters from Ravenwood Cove, so much of it is almost a thriller style, because of the race to find Amanda and bring her kidnapper to justice. It was definitely a change of pace for me, but I enjoyed writing in a bit different style.

I have several series, and I check reader reviews to let me know which one people like the best. If you’d like to see more books about Ravenwood Cove or other stories of love and adventure, please take a moment to leave a review on Amazon.
