Loving you. Finishing the excavation after the mine is blocked up and it's safe. If there's

more treasure, I want to find it. Somehow I think Sadie wants me to find it. She'll be at

peace when I reveal it to the world."

He enjoyed the warm glow that captured her eyes, the sweet smile that lingered

and challenged him to kiss her thoroughly. He had a feeling if he did kiss her, they

would soon be making love rather than talking about their future.

"I'm glad," he said. "But there's a condition to getting back on the site."

  She cocked an eyebrow. "Condition?"

Grinning, he stopped at a table and picked up a red velvet box. He sat beside her

and gathered her into his arms.

Emma's eyes grew wide at the sight of the box. Was he—? Could he—? "Shane,

  what is it?"

He handed her the container. "Open it and find out."

Her hand trembled as she held the small package, her heart beginning a steady

excited thump. She smiled tenderly. Slowly, holding her breath, she opened the box.

Nestled inside was the biggest emerald-cut diamond solitaire Emma had ever seen.

  "Shane! Does this mean—"

His lips covered hers, and for a long time all she could comprehend was the carnal

taste of his lips and tongue. When he let her up for air, she smiled.

"Will you marry me?" His voice went husky, his eyes shimmering with something

that looked suspiciously like tears. "Stay here with Charlie and me…put up with my

  crazy life?"

"Only if you can put up with my crazy life." She smiled then peppered his face with

kisses. "Even after I find Sadie's treasure, I'll continue with archaeology. It's in my

bones, Shane O'Donnell. Are you going to continue with the SIA? You said yesterday

  you hadn't decided yet."

"No. I'm done with the secret agent shit. I promised the SIA I'd be a consultant. But

no more running around playing James Bond."

  She smiled, happy. "Good."

"And you'll always have a place to come home to after archaeology trips. No more

running, Emma. Does this mean you will marry me?"

"Yes. No more running," she murmured. She threw her arms around his neck.

  "Yes. I'll marry you."

"Then I'm the happiest man in the world."

He drew back long enough to slip the ring on her finger then gathered her in his

  arms once again.

Emma knew they'd emerged at last from a world of into a place

where only the light could find them.
