Alec shoved the door closed and locked it, taking the key with him. Together he and Sabrina left that place and never looked back. As an invitation only lodge, the owner wouldn’t send out any invites again. It could be weeks or longer before anyone showed up. By that time, DeLaurent would have met his just reward.
The next day, Sabrina moved into the home on Carrollton with Alec and put the condo up for sale. Alec was happy with her decision and had encouraged her to do that very thing. Still, he knew that without Vivien Simon’s investigative skills, it could have turned out to be a very sad situation for all of them. Sabrina could have died in that small closet if he hadn’t known where to look for her. He felt the need to repay her in some way and discussed it with Cassidy and Sabrina.
“I understand, Alec, I really do. We might have lost Sabrina had it not been for Vivien’s keen eyes. She did notice the private eye taking pictures and she followed him. Still, I don’t think we need to do anything that puts us at odds with the police department.” Cassidy voiced her objection.
“What did you have in mind?” Sabrina asked.
“Someone at the church is after her. They’ve already sent two men to kill her. She’s not safe until we learn who is responsible,” he replied.
“How do you propose to help? From what she said, her boss has police surveillance on her day and night. Surely, they will thwart any future attacks,” Cassidy protested.
“Why do you oppose this, Mom? You know that it’s what I do. It’s what I have to do,” Alec said gently as he studied his mother’s face.
“I don’t want Cat involved. Vivien Simon is intent on seeing her. The more she digs into our lives, the more we owe her. Eventually, we’ll let her see Cat because how can we refuse after she’s done so much?” Cassidy explained. “I’m very worried about this.”
Alec didn’t have any reassurances to offer. He only knew that it wasn’t over. They all felt protective toward Cat. No one wished her any more grief, but he wasn’t so sure that Vivien Simon wanted anything more than to share in Cat’s experience of the angel. Still, he deferred to his mother’s wishes for the time being. Cassidy relaxed a little, knowing that Alec would leave soon for Mobile, Alabama. She wouldn’t have to worry about any of this until his return.
