“Freeze, scumbag!” he ordered.
The general growled and slowly made it to his feet and took a step toward him.
“Not today, scumbag!” He rattled off three shots in rapid order. The general took all three rounds in the chest. He fell backward to the ground and lay motionless.
Officer Cartwright approached him and winced at the sight of him. It looked as though he was riddled with disease. His partner, Officer Ronda, joined him and looked at the body.
“What the…”
“I don’t know,” said Officer Cartwright, moving away from the body. “We better call this in.” He looked around. “We also better get a couple of ambulances and a detective on the scene.” He took another look at the general’s body. “I sure hope whatever is wrong with him isn’t contagious.” He turned his back on the general’s body and took out his cell phone, not realizing the general’s arm was moving toward his leg.
The general sat up and pulled Officer Cartwright down to the ground. He tried to call for help, but the general had covered his mouth with his other hand. The officer struggled to free himself but to no avail. The general was too strong for him. The last thing he saw was his partner running toward him as the general took a huge bite from the side of his face. The general looked at Officer Ronda. His teeth were glistening with their scarlet prize.
Officer Ronda opened fire on him until the firing chamber clacked open on empty. The general lay in a pool of his own blood. Officer Ronda stared at his partner in horror as he heard the sound of sirens approaching from the distance. He bent over his wounded partner. He was trying to speak, but his words were gurgling in his blood-filled mouth. He never had the chance to finish his sentence. He went limp in his partner’s arms. Behind him he heard the sound of growling. He turned to look and was quickly overpowered by one of the teens who had been bitten by the general.
“Get away from me!” ordered Officer Ronda. “Stop it! Stop…”
