Cocky Doc: A Hero Club Novel Page 19

by Samantha Lind

“Not as much as I love you,” she says, running her fingers into my hair. I can no longer hold my body weight off of her, so before I crush her or hurt her, I slide out of her, immediately missing the warmth, and roll over onto my back. I pull her into my arms and just lie here, catching my breath.

“That was amazing,” I say, once my breath has returned to normal.

“Mhmm,” she hums her agreement. “It was. We might have to wait a little while before round two,” she says, already yawning.

“We can have round two whenever you want. But before we fall asleep, do you want me to carry you into the bathroom, or are you going to take your chair?”

“Would you be mad if I picked you carrying me?”

“Of course not. I wouldn’t offer if it wasn’t something I’d enjoy.”

“Okay, husband,” she says, emphasizing the word husband.

The bed immediately feels cold and empty once she rolls away from me. I get out of bed and round the end to scoop her up, taking her into the attached bathroom. Once she’s settled in the bathroom, I head for the second bathroom in our large suite and take care of my own business. I pull my boxers back on once I’m in the room, and pull back the sheets, so the bed is ready for us once she’s done. I wait for her to call me, and I swoop in, carrying her back to bed.

“Can you hand me my sleep clothes, please?” Megan asks once I have her set back on the mattress.

“Of course,” I tell her, grabbing her things and handing them over. I watch her every move as she works to pull the items of clothing on. Once she’s fully clothed, I slide between the sheets and pull her into my arms.

  “Good night, wife.”

“Good night, husband,” she says as we both drift off to sleep, wrapped in each other’s arms and in love. A love that neither one of us ever expected to happen, one that, if it wasn’t for my clumsiness, I might not have tripped into her life both literally and figuratively and found my soul mate.
